Squirrel Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Happy Mothers' Day to all posters in TDland to whom this applies! <crickets chirping> Anyone? <more crickets chirping> Maybe one or two potential mothers out there reading? <even more crickets chirping> Very sad, imo. We need more women here. Being on a sports fansite, such as this, is always a bit one-sided, unfortunately. And I don't think it's due to a lack of enthusiasm for the game, because I know and talk to a lot of women about sports ... they just aren't here. Where's shorty when you need her? (BYTO reference) Anyway ... hope you all are finding a moment to honor the mothers in your lives, whether they be your spouses, partners, girlfriends, friends, aunts, grandmas, daughters, co-workers, cousins, employees, employers, your actual mothers, etc., whomever is special to you. They have done and still do a lot for us. But why take just one day? I think we should think of every day as Mothers' Day, because what they do for us, have done for us, they do/did every day. My own mother gets a phone call or a card from me that says "Happy Every Day, Mom!" Okay, that out of the way, onto the game ... what will we see in today's game? Pink bats, balls, shirts, caps? Will the cameras pan the crowds and point out players' moms? We'll certainly see some of that. (Dads ... your turn is coming on June 16.) But what, or should I say who, we won't see in today's game is Fernando Romero, Kohl Stewart and Tyler Duffey. All were returned to AAA. Stewart and Romero to make room for Martín Pérez (who was on paternity leave ... and Happy Mothers' Day to Vaclena Pérez on the birth of their 2nd child) and Willians Astudillo (reinstated from the 10-day IL), both of whom we will see in today's game. Duffey was the 26th man for yesterday's double header. Hoping to see a continuation of Wes Johnson's magic with Martín Pérez. Lineups: TIGERS 1. Niko Goodrum (S) RF2. Gordon Beckham ( R) 2B3. Nicholas Castellanos ( R) DH4. Miguel Cabrera (R ) 1B5. Ronny Rodriguez (R ) SS6. John Hicks (R ) C7. Jeimer Candelario (S) 3B8. Brandon Dixon (R ) LF9. You'll get up to 60 deg F today in Minneapolis ... not so lucky here in Chicago, where the 'feels like' temperature when I looked about an hour ago was 38. Yuck. Go Twins!
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 I've been called a mother a few times...does that count? Jake Cave goes yard today. Twins keep rolling.

Thank you for jumping in! You aren't a disappointment ... at least not today.

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Roster moves: Astudillo and Perez activated, Romero and Stewart optioned to AAA. We are back to a 7 man bullpen.
SwainZag Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Love seeing La Tortuga in the leadoff spot!
stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Pérez is out of his regular routine. I hope he keeps his focus and mows down the Kitties. Glad to see Astudillo back and starting at catcher. Interesting that he is batting leadoff.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 ... and Happy Mothers' Day to Vaclena Pérez on the birth of their 2nd child) Go Twins!Thank you for that news! If she’s in Venezuela I hope she’s doing ok. The timing of Perez’s leave seemed a little odd, but as long as everything is ok and he’s getting the right amount of publicity and privacy, then not interested in snooping into his private life any more than that and hope he continues to pitch at this level for as long as he can.

If and when there's a short start the AAA shuttle will be activated.

I had read that he left on paternity leave as she was about to give birth to their second child, so I just assume they have a new little one. I think we’ll hear during the broadcast or after.

Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 That was definitely a strike but austudilo caught it terribly and it costs another run. Funny how the tigers have tagged our staff all series.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Tigers were due to hit some homers and the Twins were due to give some up. Regression to the mean, I guess.
SwainZag Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 That was definitely a strike but austudilo caught it terribly and it costs another run. Funny how the tigers have tagged our staff all series. 11 runs in 29 innings isn't exactly "tagging" the staff. Comes out to 3.4 runs per game. Let's hope Perez can settle down a bit.

ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Through 2 innings, clearly the Tigers are the better team.
