And here I thought we had worked out a trade.

We’ll, it’s kind of like a trade. He’s gone, Austin is up. Yes?

Hip surgery:

Odd

Morrison started last night

Austin was called up before that

Austin became the third 1B/DH guy on the roster at the time of his call up.

It's like they knew.  :)

Wow, that’s quite the news with everything going on over the last couple weeks. Pure speculation, wondering if he was trying to convince Twins that he could play thru it and they said no, let’s shut it down and have the surgery.

Morrison was a huge disappointment for the team. The question is, was it because of injury or is the injury a convenient excuse? This is all complicated by his expiring contract. The Twins will not pick up his option, I'm sure.

"Logan, can you play one more game on your bad hip for us tonight, so that Tyler can get acclimated?" :)

Players often resemble yo-yo's from season to season. Just when you think a guy is toast... he goes nuts the following year.

Injuries could explain it but it sure happens a lot.

That might be why I love Baseball.

Wishing him the best.  Not fun trying to swing with a bad hip.  It seems that it was bothering him the whole season.

Random.  Seems like there should be more to this story.  Did they offer him a choice? "I don't care if your hips are fine.  Its either that or get DFA'd."  Maybe hip surgery is some sort of euphemism?  Like, he wasn't cool enough?  So he needs surgery on his 'hipness?'

Health wise, I wish LoMo the best.

Baseball wise, I never saw the attraction. He did hit a bunch of home runs last year, but his history showed it was a anomaly. He never has carried a good BA.

His defense was average.

Well that news came out of the blue.

For all body language/lie-detecting sleuths out there in need of some good entertainment, watch Molitor's post-game "explanation" for Morrison's de-activation. The reaction shots of the scribes present there must have been priceless.

it could have been diagnosed a month ago, the sort of thing like “you need hip surgery, but you can still play on it until the season is over” type of thing, until LoMo cried uncle earlier this week.

Logan was quoted as saying that he has been fighting with it since spring training.

Recovery time needs to be considered.. I don't know what the recovery time is but I'm sure he'd like to be at spring training on time for someone. He will need to be at full strength to prove he belongs in the major leagues again because I think he will have a road back to navigate. He may have a minor league deal on his horizon.

This may have been Morrison's agent planning for 2019.

I try to give players the benefit of doubt when it comes to injuries. My guess is that it's a nagging injury that's been affecting his performance all year and, like others have said, he finally decided enough is enough. The team doesn't need him to make a pennant drive because there won't be one, he's not going to be traded to a contender, and he wants to be as ready as possible for spring training, wherever that may be.

And by the way, I think this could explain why he didn't slide on that close play at second base the other night.

I read that the recovery/rehab time is 4-6 months ... wonder if it’s a torn hip labrum, did they say exactly? So he’ll be ready to go for ST ... on another team’s roster.

It's why you can do some forecasting from a player's record but it requires care and is hardly an exact science.

Throw out the player's best season so far. Every player has a Career Year. Sometimes that Career Year happens at AA, and fools you. LoMo had his, last year, and to my surprise it fooled the analytics team here.

Throw out the player's worst season. He was probably dinged up. Maybe throw out another bad season too, on the same grounds. More than that, and maybe dinged-up is his place in this world.

What you have left, which for prospects may be only a little bit, you can try to extrapolate from, factoring in age and competition level at each step. Eduardo Escobar was the example I liked to use, back earlier in his career - he had a stinker season or two, but who knows why. The talent for a career was there.

LoMo is probably somewhere between 2017 and 2018, too.

4 to 6 months... Yep... that times out to spring training. That's about optimal timing for him... wouldn't you say?

All I know is that his hip has been impinged upon. It's going to be surgery and that puts him on the shelf for the season.

The other thing I know is that we will no longer be impinged upon.

You are tossing out the 8.5 from the Russian Judge and the 5.6 from the East German Judge.  :)

Fer sher. I'm tossing out the Not Meeting Expectations review I got from Boss A and Exceeding Expectations from Boss B, too.

I agree

Here is what I don't want to hear from Molitor or Logan or anyone.

I don't want to hear anyone say that the pain affected or effected Logan Morrison this year.

It's already inexcusable how much playing time he got based on the production.

The very second Molitor or Morrison or Falvey or Lavine mentions that the pain may have had something to do with that production. The inexcusableness immediately becomes synergistic in scope because now you have everyday playing time handed to a guy, who not only isn't producing but also playing through pain, which is now used as an excuse for not producing and this takes inexcusable to a whole new level.

If anybody utters it... please post it.  :)
