Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MXf8QS0ELA ANNND Welcome! To Minnesota Twins Whine Line: Re-write edition! I am your host for the next 2 days, Vanimal. How NEAT was that game yesterday?! The Twins square off against the Tigers today, and who knows, maybe this game will be good too! Before we dive into the randomness and debauchery, let's talk weather and lineups. It's a heat wave there today! Good thing they play later on... Mostly sunny and 86 degrees at first pitch. REAL FEEL of 90 degrees. Winds from the ESE at 6 MPH. Minnesota Twins (80-74) 1. Brian Dozier ( R) 2B2. Joe Mauer (L) 1B3. Jorge Polanco (S) SS4. Eddie Rosario (L) LF5. Eduardo Escobar (S) 3B6. Byron Buxton (R ) CF7. Max Kepler (L) RF8. Robbie Grossman (S) DH9. Jason Castro (L) C P - Erv Santana ( R): 1.54 ERA over his last 2 starts! Detroit Tigers (62-92) 1. Ian Kinsler ® 2B2. Alex Presley (L) DH3. Miguel Cabrera ® 1B4. Nicholas Castellanos ® RF5. Jeimer Candelario (S) 3B6. Bryan Holaday ® C7. Andrew Romine (S) LF8. JaCoby Jones ® CF9. Jose Iglesias ® SS P - Matthew Boyd (L): Was one out away from a no-hitter his last start.... Re-Writes: I don't know about you, but I threw away my preseason prediction in the trash, just like Paul Simon! Last year was so bad, and it was hard to see the Twins winning more than 74.5 wins in late February. As we stand now, the Twins have 8 games remaining, and 3.5 games up on the Angels. After the last 6 years, just watching the team in a playoff game is exciting! The intern is already hyperventilating in a paper bag thinking about it! Playoffs: The magic number is down to 6! Who'd have thought the American League will gift a playoff spot to a mid-80's win team? Give anyone a chip, chair, and a chance, and anything is possible! BREAKING NEWS: The Whine Line team just got word of a potential scheduling conflict at Target Field during the ALDS..... Minneapolis' fastest-rising band The Considerations also booked a gig the same night as game 7! Does Bark know something we don't?! Miss ya, and your rally rum.... Game Thread Re-Writes: For those that have read my game threads over the last couple of years, you'll know some have been...strange at times. Some ideas have gone back to re-write, but haven't left the notebook... UNTIL NOW! For the first time ever, let's reveal some game thread ideas that are duds! - ChiTown spent the off-season living and learning cat behavior. Does well enough to earn their trust and become their queen. Then organizes a RISE OF THE CATS to defeat the Detroit Tigers.- Chief's extremely successful bed and breakfast has a famous guest, Mike Trout! He spends the next two weeks messing with his life... Gets his bank accounts frozen, cancels his flights every day, all for the Twins to win the WC. (Editor's Note: Too dark. May get viewed as kidnapping. Let Chief have his successful business)- Minnesota Twins Whine Line: The Shining Edition! *Now they're too good. Keep this in the archives just in case. Hold on, I got to get back to re-writing this thing.... Internet crashed. What's the best day to cook?.....Fry-day. Let's GET A WIN TWINS!
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 What's the best day to cook?.....Fry-day. You are the one who obviously spent too much time at Chief's B&B
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 It's now an endorphin-fueled sprint to the finish, and Molitor is throwing out the platoon splits and playing his best players. Approve!
Jham Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Angels lose. Twins with an opportunity to pull a haduken finishing move tonight.#bootonthroat
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Angels lose, will have lots of beer on hand tonight in the event of a Twins win and a Rangers loss.
AlwaysinModeration Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I don't think a re-write is necessary....this looks like the Wild Card starting lineup to me.
Darius Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I don't think a re-write is necessary....this looks like the Wild Card starting lineup to me.I agree with this. I could nitpick and throw out a lineup I'd prefer a little more. But I guess the playoffs would be a strange time to bump Dozier from leadoff. For the record, my (likely misguided) attempt at a lineup against Severino would be: Polanco, SS; Mauer, 1B; Buxton, CF; Dozier, 2B; Rosario, LF; Escobar; 3B; Kepler, RF; Grossman, DH; Castro, C. That will also make it impossible to hit consecutive lefty matchups out of the Yanks 'pen. With Sano: Polanco, SS; Mauer, 1B; Buxton, CF; Dozier; 2B; Rosario, LF; Sano, DH; Escobar, 3B; Kepler, RF; Castro, C. Man, that lineup with Sano is fun to tinker with. So many good matchup possibilities. The moral of the story is I'd prefer Dozier in a position to hit a multi-run shot in the top of the 1st in the WC game. Jumping out to quick lead could help shake the Yankee curse.

Pius Jefferson Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I hate asking this with a series against Cleveland upcoming. If the Twins were to clinch a playoff spot before returning home next weekend what kind of attendance would you expect?
Face The Facts Provisional Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Hi everyone! What are most people thinking? 84 wins enough to win the 2nd wild card outright?
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Checking in from Comerica Park I'll do my best.
Ultima Ratio Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Hi everyone! What are most people thinking? 84 wins enough to win the 2nd wild card outright?More than enough. I think 82 will be enough and we will get to 83, up two games on Texas.
Darius Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Interesting stat on the pre-game. Mike Trout is hitting something .115 over the last 16-17 games, and they've lost 11 of 14 (might be off of some of those numbers, but that's the neighborhood).
PDX Twin Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Like many have been saying, Dozier's power would be better in the middle of the lineup. Ha!
Puckett34 Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 That's one way to start a game.
Darius Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Enough of this "never bunt" rhetoric that's all the rage. Bunt EVERY AT BAT!
bighat Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Nice way to start, reckon.
70charger Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Can't watch it on video today. Was there really a three base throwing error?
Darius Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Can't watch it on video today. Was there really a three base throwing error?Yes. Although, if you're a Yankee at Yankee Stadium, it would be ruled a HR. So I'll count it.
Puckett34 Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Can't watch it on video today. Was there really a three base throwing error? One base throwing error, coupled with slower than Vargas Cabera playing 1st, with an right fielder shifted closer to center and a foul territory that rivals Oakland according to Bert. Quite the little league HR.

By the way, we had snow in CA on the last day of summer. Got a few inches in the Sierras.
bighat Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 This looked like the start to a laugher, not so funny anymore!
Blake Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Hi everyone! What are most people thinking? 84 wins enough to win the 2nd wild card outright?I pretty much only saw the first part. And you don't want to know the answer.
Blake Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Can't watch it on video today. Was there really a three base throwing error?Yeah, Detroit evidently hired the same fielding coaches the White Sox use.
Darius Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 If you're Molitor, what does it take for you to give Berrios the nod in the WC game? You'll likely need to commit to setting that up sooner than later. Just to be clear, I have been a Berrios advocate before Santana started this game.
Darius Verified Member Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Get the damn out!! What are you doing!?
