Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 ANND Welcome! To Minnesota Twins Whine Line: Beatles Edition! I'm your emergency host for the day, Vanimal. A game happened last night, if you didn't know! Today is the final game that the Twins will be in San Diego, which is sad, really. They barely had any time to enjoy the weather! Who knows, maybe they'll score a run this afternoon! Before we get into debauchery, let's talk weather and lineups: It's San Diego, so you know it's going to be sunny with no chance of rain. 80 degrees at first pitch. REAL FEEL of 94 degrees! Winds out of the WSW at 5 MPH. Minnesota Twins (50-54): 1. Joe Mauer (L) 1B2. Eduardo Escobar (S) 2B3. Max Kepler (L) RF4. Miguel Sano ® 3B5. Eddie Rosario (L) LF6. Byron Buxton ® CF7. Jorge Polanco (S) SS8. Jason Castro (L) C9. Ervin Santana ® P P - Erv Santana - 84 overall on MLB the Show! San Diego Dads (48-58):1. Manuel Margot ® CF2. Cory Spangenberg (L) 3B3. Jose Pirela ® LF4. Yangervis Solarte (S) 2B5. Wil Myers ® 1B6. Hunter Renfroe ® RF7. Austin Hedges ® C8. Dusty Coleman ® SS9. Luis Perdomo ® P Luis Perdomo is nothing special! They should be able to score a run or 2. Alright, let's get into the THEME of the day!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YojsDZJRIWk We should have known better: The intern has been sitting in a dark bedroom over the last 2 days trying to recover from this downfall the Twins are in. I'm pretty worried guys! He hasn't showered, and all he's had to eat is a roller dog from 7-11. He wanted this team to go ALL THE WAY. Now all he can do is create a virtual WS winner. We're here to say everything is going to be okay! We're still here talking about random things, and mostly not about baseball! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDm2soD0UFE Day Trips: Aren't day trips the best?! Especially impromptu day trips with your buddies, family, and/or significant other. Load up the car with snacks and drinks, and let the road take you to wherever your little heart desires. The last day trip we took was to Fredricksburg, TX, WINE COUNTRY. We visited a few wineries, checked out vintage shops that have been there for over a hundred years, and finished with some ice cream! What was the last fun day trip you took?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCtzkaL2t_Y Don't Let Me Down: Especially all of you game threadders! The season isn't over yet, and we made it through so much worse last season. We can still talk about random things during the day, right? Also, VOLUNTEER for some upcoming game threads!**This message was sponsored by Twins Daily Corporation, Chief, and ChiTownhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93rSXA8aeG4 Nowhere Man: Now that the season has transitioned back to being a "rebuilding" season as it were, there's a few people who are nowhere to be found. Where did you go, Mitch Garver, Jake Reed, and John Curtiss? If the bullpen has shown us anything over the last 7-8 games, they could use some fresh blood! Get a win today Twins? Maybe?

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Since it's lunch time, and I'm still kind of hungry after eating a salad, here are some pics of things to eat at Petco Park... Phil's BBQ: Cue the Homer Simpson "mmmmmmmm BBQ" Cardiff Crack Nachos: And to finish it off, you can CREATE your own ice cream sandwich!!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 TX Wine country? sounds more terrifying than MN Wine country even....

wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I hope I even get to eat lunch today, unlike yesterday.I know those days. They aren't fun. Though, they make girlish figure easier to maintain. You know that you've skipped lunch when even thinking of a salad makes your mouth water.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 TX Wine country? sounds more terrifying than MN Wine country even.... It was really good! I'm no wine expert, but they had a bunch of very good red blends (Cabernet, Merlot, and one that was more of a bubbly red type) The bubbly one was actually pretty refreshing on a hot summer day.

You know that you've skipped lunch when even thinking of a salad makes your mouth water. to offset no lunch, we went to a brewery and tasted beer, ate a pretzel, and got beer to go. then there was a national night out event in our woonerf (look it up, a real word), with free beer, food truck, and ice cream. Admittedly, I got brussel sprouts, but topped those off with beer and ice cream...

A bubbly rose or blush does go down pretty well on a hot day.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 which wineries? There's a group of about 10 wineries all within 4 blocks of each other on Main Street... We wanted to try 6-7 of them but some were full for the day, and some required a reservation. We tried Fiesta Winery, Grape Creek, and Narrow Path.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 agreed, lots of good ones out here, but too expensive.Yeah, I've found the bubbly varietals to be more hit and miss than their "flat" cousins. I either really like them or I don't like them at all. I do like a white merlot or syrah with a burger though. I don't really do that often enough.

Fiesta Winery sounds like it should bottle Tex-Mex varieties. At least Texas would have a longer growing season than MN. I don't care much for many of the local varietals, but I've found a couple of good rhubarb wines that I like. They've got to be chilled pretty well, but they're decent enough that I buy a bottle now and then.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Not to derail the good conversation we've been having, but hopefully no one here has been affected by the gas leak explosion in Minneapolis today.

No doubt. That's a nasty situation. At least it happened in August and not when school was actually in session.

There are about 30 of them up on the Leelanau peninsula in northern Michigan. My wife and I like to do a tour up there at least once a year. Usually means being set about by about $500 in wine...

I was lucky to get out of there only $125 in the red.
