Glen Perkins

I have not seen much discussion on Glen Perkins rehab on this board.  Sounds like it is progressing and if all goes well he could return in the next month.

A healthy Perkins would go a long way in improving/deepening the bullpen.  Personally I feel if they get anything out of Perkins, it will be a bonus.  Hopefully the F.O. is not holding off on making any moves to strengthen the 'pen because they are planning on him coming back.

What do others think?

I have absolute confidence that Glen Perkins would love to finish rehab and help the Twins.

I also suspect that he will not pitch for an MLB team again.

Hope his efforts prove fruitful and I am wrong.

Heard on KTWN he gave up multiple home runs to Chris Gimenez in simulated throwing.

That sounds like satire to me.

But also believable.

I think Perkins is going to have to recover a lot of velocity to be effective. After his showing this spring and his history with his shoulder, I just don't see it happening. My guess is he'll come back with mid-80's velocity for a couple of token appearances, see that he can't make it work with that range and either call it a career or go back on the DL.

And then everyone is going to flip out about which ever player was DFA'd to allow Perkins his one last shot.

He might return to pitch in the 6th at some point this year, but to expect him to be an effective late inning arm is unrealistic.

Hopefully he can recover.

He did, but it was a live BP session and he was only throwing fastballs. I.e. Gimenez knew what was coming. So giving up home runs is not that surprising.

Shoulder injuries are a real concern. I hope he pitches for us again but I think the rehab will tell us all we need to know. Best of luck to him though.

He will probably return in the manner that Joe Nathan returned. That is, if Perkins is valuable again, it's not going to be this year.

Have seen multiple reports that he's only been throwing mid 80's. I think his path back to the Twins is still a lot longer than a month.

Gimenez said he suspected he was 84-86 that day.

My faith in Perkins' successful return has not moved from 0% in nearly a year.

If someday he proves me wrong, great. Until that point, it will remain at 0%.

Whaddaya mean??  It's like we traded for an all star closer!!

In mid March Perkins was throwing in the upper 70s, two and a half months later it sounds like he's up to the mid 80s. He's made some progress, but at this point my confidence is low that we'll ever see Perkins back on the mound for the Twins.

In the past he would have been predictably brought back into his old spot, and spent several weeks struggling. Hopefully with the new regime we are past that form deferential veteran treatment. Perkins at 96 was a nice piece of the bullpen. Perkins at 86 will not be. It's a shame to say it, but I am in the 0% camp also.
