twinsfanstreif Provisional Member Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 if anyone could predict TJ candidates with any accuracy, they'd already be doing it at the team level, and we'd see less. He wasn't predicting it, he is saying that he would be concerned about TJ if he continues with his same mechanics and doesn't strengthen his lower half. I think that's fair. If it means anything this guy was concerned about Birdi's mechanics as well

I think that's fair. If it means anything this guy was concerned about Birdi's mechanics as well It might, but lots of us were concerned about a RP that throws that hard that. And, if you list 20 minor league pitchers as injury risks, you are going to be right a lot.... There have been a lot of people that thought they had the "answer" to predicting injuries, and so far, no one has publicly been able to do so with any accuracy. Not the 10% growth in pitch count people, not the inverted W people, and certainly not the Twins or Mets or Dodgers.... I am, let's say, skeptical.

maxisagod Verified Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 According to MLB pipeline's last podcast:http://mlb.mlb.com/fan_forum/podcasts/index.jsp?c_id=mlb&podcast=mlb_pipelineSounds like Greene at 2 to the Reds is the most likely possibility (If the Twins don't take him). They project the Twins to wait it out, see who's price drop, but all things equal, take Wright. This seems odd to me, the idea has been that The Padres would of course take Greene at 3. Now it's the Reds would absolutely do it at 2. But the Twins at 1? He's in the mix but not the favorite. Feels like experts are crafting storylines more than projecting the best value to the top drafting team. I’m sure the Twins will take Wright. I’m sure he fits with the team's playoff window better. But for a team with a lack of top 100 prospects, seems odd the Twins wouldn’t consider Greene as the favorite with Wright as the fall back/ price saver.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 I've been high on Gore since reading some scouting reports on him. The post by InfraRen quoting Keith Law was very interesting. At this point I would like to see the Twins draft Wright or Gore.I get Wright will be MLB ready sooner, like while we still have Sano, Buck, Kepler, et.al.Not sure how to value that.

The high school pitchers are more like 2021 and you would have to extended the core you feel is worthwhile(Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Polanco) for sure and maybe Rosario. If several of those players leave, you will have wasted their good years here with mediocre pitching.(Unless you sign one or two very good starters).
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Yeah, I think I'm leaning Wright, Gore, McKay at 1/1
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 McKay 1-5 with 2 strikeouts yesterday. J.B. 3.2, 6, 6, 4, 5 Canning: 7.2, 6, 2, 2, 6 Rooker: 1-3, BB, SO Burger: 1-4, BB, SO I think Wright, McKay and Faedo all could pitch tonight.
Einstein1 Provisional Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Vanderbilt will be on ESPNU today, @ 6:00 I believe. Kyle Wright is scheduled to pitch if you want to get a look at him.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 At this point I'm happy with Greene, Gore, or Wright. In that order.
AZTwin Verified Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Not sure what round he is projected to go in, but a player Im intrigued by is Jason Bahr, relief pitcher, out of UCF. Anyone know anything about this kid?
benji21 Verified Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 I've seen a lot of the conversation about Wright focus on joining this current core, but that sort of ignores a large point of the draft. That being to have a steady stream of MLB players. Sure Gore may not speed to the majors, but he may help a team that needs him. We don't know what that environment looks like in a few years. Same with Wright. We don't know who the Twins sign or trade for. BPA all the way. Can't draft for current MLB need in this sport.

Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 BPA all the way. Can't draft for current MLB need in this sport. Why exactly is that? Unlike BPA, current need is not subjective. And if you are not willing to address current need with trades of prospects or expensive quality free agents, you better address it in the draft.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Louisville vs OK on rn. ESPN regular, I think.McKay is dealing through 3. 91-93. Curve ball is money. See how his velo holds up.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 And McKay's done after 101 pitches. 6.1 IP, runner on first.Velo did dip in the fifth, ESP out the stretch. 87-91, one 92. Command slipped. Recovered in the sixth out of the windup, 91-92 but outta gas in the 7th.
Roaddog Verified Member Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Not impressed with McKay. I'm more than worried about his velocity issues. Reminds me of the Ryan Mills pick.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2017 Author Posted June 4, 2017 I think I'm still in the McKay/Wright camp at the moment. Don't really care which one, though I'm leaning towards Wright. I'm with Thrylos. Unless Falvey and Levine have convinced the Pohlads to open up their wallet this winter for FA pitching, we need to draft one of these guys. This BPA argument gets tossed around too much here and it's way too subjective. If there was a clear BPA in this draft, no one would be debating who were picking.
drjim Provisional Member Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Wright, 7 ip, 7 h, 3 r, 1 bb, 9 k. Seems like he was 94-96, also with a 2 seamer, curve, change. Still the man imo.
Einstein1 Provisional Member Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Baseball America breakdown of Kyle Wright's start last night: "The righthander, who’s likely to be a top three selection in the draft less than 10 days from now, pitched at 92-94 for most of the outing, dipping as low as 90 with his two-seamer and bumping 95-96 as late as the sixth inning. He found bursts of command, locating his fastball with pinpoint precision down in the zone and to both sides of the plate. Wright generated arm-side run or late sinking action on the pitch throughout the evening, showing at least 55 fastball movement on the 20-to-80 scouting scale. While his fastball velocity, command and movement all showed plus potential, Wright’s changeup was equally impressive. He repeated his arm speed on the pitch well, giving it a fastball look out of his hand. Thrown in the mid-80s, Wright’s changeup showed late fade and flashed arm-side run. Wright’s changeup flashed plus potential often, generating swinging strikeouts from Andrew Cox and Seth Beer."http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/kyle-wright-guides-vanderbilt-victory/#d1qORHLVl4jqecRZ.97
Sweetwater Provisional Member Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 It's Wright or bust now. He's shown me enough. McKay is a disaster. Thankfully we got 1-1.
Carneal&Gordon Verified Member Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Sure seems like it's Wright with maybe Gore being the wildcard
benji21 Verified Member Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Why exactly is that? Unlike BPA, current need is not subjective. And if you are not willing to address current need with trades of prospects or expensive quality free agents, you better address it in the draft. To be fair, we don't know the new regime won't trade prospects for a playoff push or whatever. And with many previous "MLB ready" prospects the twins have drafted (looking at you messrs wimmers, eades, and Michael) they don't always turn out to be so quick to the majors. Then you look back at what could have been.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Is anyone bothered if we start a new draft thread? If so, a mod can merge this into the other one but at 70+ pages it's getting a bit long. mlbpipeline has posted their top 200 here - http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=draft And they have a list also of the biggest risers and fallers here - http://m.mlb.com/news/article/234300364/top-200-draft-prospects-list-unveiled/ They have JJ Schwartz at 172, Sam Carlson at 15 and Wright moved up to #3.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 This is the first time I've seen video of Gore.... I love that guy's leg kick. Very Cole Hamels/Trevor Hoffman-esc.

drjim Provisional Member Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Callis is way high on Gore, his personal #1. I like mlbpipeline, but they are a little more conservative. I would be surprised if anyone else had McKay over Wright at this point, unless they really like his bat.

But his bat might be the best college bat in the draft so he could go ahead of Wright on some boards because of that.

Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 The Greene love is still going strong. I still want Wright or Gore.I really believe that whoever takes McKay will take his bat. He is supposed to be really polished as a hitter.
