  1. The wavier loses have sucked. The more you lose, the odds increase you lose some one special. I know the system is deep, but this off season they seem to lose every minor league free agent and wavier post.
  2. A Canadian, who went to Kentucky, and was already drafted by the Twins? Is there any debate? Tristan Pompey is they’re #1 pick!
  3. I think it had more to do with maximizing his strengths. He was fast and could cover a lot of ground, and had a lot to learn at SS. But if he's a great leader in the infield, has a drive to get better defensively, and the Twins have Buxton in CF, keep him at Short and you could have something special.
  4. I think the key to picking these kids, were 1: Not part of the 40 man crunch, lots of years of control left. 2: filled holes in the organisation. 3: were scouted using the new FO approach (no old scouting reports). This is basically like trading for draft picks, pro ball stats don't matter much at this point. Look at Baddoo first year.
  5. Sounds like Maitan and the others would be under the international cap due to their age. Give's the Twins an advantage, if he's planning on playing this year and not waiting until the July 2 deadline again.
  6. The Odd thing.... Rosario lasted to a playoff team in the other league (meaning he almost got thru) but Palka got pick up by a horrible team in this league. Would have thought it would be the other way around.
  7. The one thing that is hardly mentioned is the fact the Twins do have to field a 25 man team. The rest of the guys are call ups during next season, if they're ready. So give and take free agents and and 60 man DL, that leaves 15 guys who are not ready for the Twins on your 40 man. Most people's lists have them adding a lot of P (which I agree with), but you still need position players as well. Currently The Twins only have 4 position players who are not on the 25 man roster. If you're not adding any position players, I don’t think the Twins should be dropping Vargas, Palka, Vielma, and Garver and replacing them for “not ready for prime time” pitchers. You’d only drop these guys if they sign or trade for position players. I agree with other posters that a low A 1B like Diaz is not getting selected, plus no reason to start burning his options this quickly. Stewart, Rodriguez, Thrope, and Moya are also givens to get added IMO along with the top 4 of Seth’s list.
  8. I am suggesting that, yes. Not to say other up the middle positions doesn't have value, but CF is 2nd to me to SS in the majors. Jeter's offensive would be a celling for Lewis, but I'm open to other comps.
  9. The two biggest reasons are 1, trade value. 2, If he can stick you have Derek Jeter. People don't move on to SS they move off of it. The longer you keep him on it, the longer you keep the dream alive. This all might be moot though. If he starts at A ball next year, he have to split time with Wander Javier and Jose Miranda, so I'd guess he get time in the OF anyway.
  10. It does sell out, so make sure you buy your tickets days in advance. Don't get to high up, because unlike Target Field as it goes up it also goes back futher.
  11. New name posted on BA's Twins signed list today. Nomar Urdaneta, ss, Venezuela. Not much on him. He's part of KPL Baseball Academy in Valencia, Venezuela. Had tryouts with the Dbacks and Dodgers.
  12. And that's just from the Dominican. If you look at the lists of top unsigned players they fall into 2 categories. Not yet 16 or from Venezuela. I think independent experts and sources are much stronger in DR. It will be interesting who the Twins sign from elsewhere.
  13. Acording to BA team tracker the Twins also signed an OF "Luis Baez, of, Dominican Republic, $300,000." With them expected to sign Carlos Aguiar and Mauro Bonifacio in Aug. It sounds like they have their Outfield set.
  14. It's hard to imagine but these guys are all years apart. Even Royce Lewis and Jeffry Marte. Marte will start in the DSL league next year. By the time he's in the Gulf Coast League, Lewis will be A or High A. That's 2-3 years apart on a normal timeline. By the time Marte is ready for the MLB Gordon will almost be a free agent if not signed to an extension.
  15. Not many updates here lately... Nick Allen (ss) just sign with the A's in the 3rd round for 2 million. Top 30 draft prospect. Sound familiar? As the dust settles a few things are clear to me: -The Twins were looking for a top talent and wanted to save money for later in the draft. Lewis fit the bill. - The Twins were very high on Leach and didn't think he'd make it to the 3rd round. Leach was a late fast riser. This might have been because he played in Canada, and the fact that there wasn't a lot of hype on him before the draft. After the draft experts came back saying he was a great pick. People went back to check with their sources I guess. Also again, they saved money for other picks. - The Twins were banking on a top prep player like Carlson, Allen, or Enlow to fall to the 3rd. Allen and Enlow did, Carlson didn't. We know the Twins ranked Enlow higher than Allen (or they didn't want to draft two prep SS that high). We may never know if they had Carlson ranked higher than Enlow or the other way around. Anyway, its traditional to compare high picks with the guys selected around them. I might do the same with these 3 players.
  16. Ben Badler came out with his 2017 Top 50 International Prospects For July 2. Jelfry Marte is 13, Carlos Aguiar 30, Mauro Bonifacio 34. From what little I've read there is two guys clearly at the top of this class (Wander Franco and Daniel Flores) after that, things get muddled. There are a few VZ names not attached to anybody, but I'm guessing the Twins have already commited to their big names. Wonder what Auzzies or Europeans the Twins will also sign.
  17. Saw him pitch this year in LA, no command, everything was off. He got beat up. Not the same kid I saw at the futures game in Minny. Hope he comes back from this.
  18. MLB Daily Dish has us signing everyone in our top 10 except Leach so far. Callis reported on Enlow signing for 2 mil today. I'm also wondering about pick 11 Gabriel Rodriguez. It's usally a high upside pick.
  19. When you quoted amjgt he said: "Not doing so, with as large of a draft pool as we were given, is essentially like giving up a top 100 draft pick." Now 'like a top 100 pick' isn't directly saying "Draft an extra top 100 pick" but the argument seems to be plan to spend the money on a top guy. Which only works if everyone signs. When really (In my opinion) the arugment should be once it clear you don't need your emergency money, spend it on a harder to sign pick from 11-40. None of the 11-40 guys are top 100 guys. Like I said, I agree with you. I just keep my saving account and my checking account separate until there is no reason to save anymore.
  20. I agree. But there is one reason for not spending it right away. What if one of your top 10 draft picks doesn't sign. You agree to a under slot deal, promise the money to someone else and.... they fail their physical. Do you offer them the same amount to make sure to keep the extra money in your draft pool? Do you offer the player less, what if they don't sign? The money should get spent, but only after all your top targets sign for what they agree too.
  21. A few different things. They can't play college ball anymore so they’re option after this year are limited, so their bonuses are usually only a few thousand dollars, not hundreds of thousands of dollars. If drafted in the top ten rounds, the team did this to save money to spend elsewhere in the draft. If drafted after the top ten rounds, the team is just looking to fill out their rookie league teams, and some scout suggested their name. They tend to only last a few years in the minors, getting replaced by top prospects or other senior signs. This isn’t always the case, after all, Brian Dozier was a senior sign. Dozier stock has always been... deflated because of it. He was always consider “old” for a prospect compared to the guys who sign out of high school. So even when he was a top 10 prospect, he was never the top prospect. He also will reach free agency at an older age, reducing his potential earnings. And though I can’t prove it, you'd think a 40 home run hitting, 2nd baseman All star would get more trade interest. His age I believe plays a factor in that as well.
  22. I don't think you personally would treat them with disregard. The clock is ticking guys are flying off your board and so you text people and ask "what's your number?" or "would Rooker take...." And you get the amount he's look for. The number is slightly over slot, now you can A, keep going back and forth down to the wire, B, say he might get that elsewhere but lets take him anyway and offer less, C, say pass he wasn't "the guy" anyway, or D, know it's not going to break the bank and say we can work around that, he's the one we want. It's already clear what they did with Lewis (D), Wright ©, and Mckay (A).
  23. Indy ball is always an option too. Bottom line is your building a relationship with a player for 1 -20 years. You draft him and say "you'll take slot or less than slot or don't sign", you treating the player and the agent with disregard and little respect. Even if his agent caves and says "this is the best your going to get lets sign and move on" your playing a lot of hard ball early on in a long relationship with someone who earned his bonus with an almost historic year. Plus yeah, it will get around, and no one will sign the redraft paper with the Twins, especially the ones connected to that agent.
  24. http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/236553468/twins-used-no-1-pick-to-have-best-2017-draft/ Jim Callis seems to thinks the Twins had the best draft!
  25. This draft will be measured in 3 ways (unfairly maybe) 1, Comparing Lewis to other top picks. It might not be Lewis vs Greene, it will be Lewis vs ‘whoever is the best of the top five’. If Gore (for example) starts becoming a superstar, it will turn into a “we should have draft Gore debate” and Greene, Wright, and McKay will be left out of the debate (especially if they end up doing nothing). 2, Comparing Lewis to everyone! If Alex Lange for example becomes the best from the draft, some people will conder Lewis a missed, cause Lange went 30th instead of 1st. 3, Carlson vs Enlow. If Carlson becomes super star, and Enlow never makes it past AA it will hit fans hard.
