  1. This does bring up a interesting question in general.... The Twins wouldn't send a a player from the States, a Puerto Rican, a Canadian, German, Dutch, South African, or an Auzzie to the DSL. But they almost automatically send Colombians, Dominicans, Venezuelan, and Panamanians. So why is it automatically assumed A player from the Curaçao would go to the DSL like a Venezuelan instead to the GCL like someone from the Netherlands? Ruar Verkerk is also Dutch but we don't consider him skipping the DSL. Just thinking out loud.
  2. Kepler is the case that's usually mentioned. With more and more online schools popping up I wonder if that's going to be the preferred route, just read last night that Lindsey Vonn, because she trained in Colorado all winter, went to the University of Missouri High School to finish school while working on being a seasonal sport star.
  3. Great article. One of the name I was curious about. Thanks.
  4. So maybe Kyle should have been comparing the comp pick the Twins would have gotten in 2002 for not signing Prior, Bryan Bullington or B.J. Upton. Though then Kyle REALLY would have wished he'd have written this story earlier. The Twins didn't have the best track recorded at signing 1st round draft picks, so yeah it shouldn't be a given that he signed. Also, would the Twins have promoted Prior as fast as the Cubs did? They did have a lot of guys filling up those roster spots that we're either low cost and pitching good or slightly unmovable. I don't think Prior in the rotation in 2002 would be a given and worry due to Santana issues breaking the rotation, Santana might have been the one left out of the rotation when Prior gets a spot and Jonah might have missed his best years, hanging out in the bullpen.
  5. Aiken would be 3rd for me as well. Which say how good Buxton and Sano are, because I'd say for at least 1/3 of the teams, he'd become the top prospect in their system.
  6. Rosario is on the 40 man Roster Now, meaning he's a union man, no more recreational drug tests. The Twins have many positive options, time to let them play and fight it out.
  7. Agreed. Turner has a higher floor, but at this point both project more like starters then as all stars. Starters have lots of value, especially up the middle like at catcher or SS/2B like Polanco. but given the depth of the system and a variety of positions targeting a high upside catching prospect maybe from the Pirates or the Yankees might be a good plan to create a truly balanced team. You don't draft for need, but you can always trade for it.
  8. Ideally He Wally Pipp one of the two, and forces Santana or Dozier be traded for valuable prospects. Or like Nater suggested, Polanco becomes a key piece in a trade and nets you a key MLB piece, without giving up Sano or Buxton.
  9. It feels odd to say someone's floor is a everyday starter, but in this case it might be accurate. After all, how many years was Rivas at 2nd base. Polanco will start his 2nd year at AA, with a handful of MLB at bats already. He's no longer a pipe dream. Now he just needs to push through and earn a spot. Edited: Double Negative.
  10. 2018. World Series. Game 7. The clear American MVP Sano is benched for a nonperformance/ non medical reason. If the Twins lose that game due to a lack of offence, is Molitor's Job secure and if he lost it, did Sano fire him? This incident is a factoid nothing more.
  11. I think you answered your own question, Vargas was on the 40 man, Walker is not. Walker was a 3rd round pick, not a 1st round pick like Buxton or Berrios. Walker doesn't need to build up confidence, he needs to improve his walk to strike out ratio, which he can do on the minor league side this spring, and then get a call over to play in a game or two on the big league side... just like Sano and Buxton did in pervious years.
  12. Because the Twins have two 2nd round pics this year. it's almost like a gimme.
  13. Joel Sherman redacts statement. Says Twins pushing.
  14. That's something I've always respected about Twins Daily, is staff and posters giving credit to who broke the story or found the latest bit of info. Seth you in particular when you "break something" give the credit to Twins Daily as a whole. That doesn't go unnoticed.
  15. The thing I hate most about sources, is they can be anyone. Levelle or Berardino for example can quote A source close to a team, which could be Phil Miller who said something or even tweeted something. He's close to the team, and he said it, so they can say it. Information like this can become a chasing your own tail effect. I do massively respect the work Berardino been doing the last couple years. When trying to figured the "second finalist" for the pitching coach job it looked like he was contacting anyone he could think of just trying to see if they'd been approached by the Twins for an interview. He didn't just wait around for a Twins exec to feed him information, he was being a reporter.
  16. Wedding. http://www.theknot.com/wedding/Aaron-Lauren I think he should have played through it. Congrats to him and his wife!
  17. I have a friend who loves the M hats because he doesn't live in the "Metro" part of MN. I think there is a divide there between the two MN groups.
  18. Excellent Article. I like the idea of the return of the Bash Brother, but I have a feeling it's Vargas and Sano, with Arica providing the protection. The article in general was a great balance of of stats and color, but one area I was thrown off was when you had the picture of Vargas split up the "Past 30 day" comments and the "Leads the majors in.." comment. Made it feel like they were two separate factoids rather than one.
  19. Can you add him and take him off a month later? Nice store, but is he worth keeping over all the other rule 5/ minor league free agents this off season?
  20. The 2014 Draft is doing very well so far. Seeing guys like Reed, Burdi, Curtiss, Murphy, English, and Batts dominate, and Gordon, Cederoth, Steele, LeBlanc, put up good numbers, makes me feel like they got a lot of talent in this draft. I know the Appy league seems to be a younger league on average than the college guys the Twins send there, but the ones moving up to Kernels are still producing!
  21. Anyone who follows my posts might think this is odd coming from me, but this might be the off season to say "Screw the draft picks, let get an elite player". Because... 1) Twins will have a better idea of what their long term needs will be, looking at the players they have this year and in AA/AAA. The 2015-16 off season is more ideal, but this one will still be in the 'zone'. 2) This might be the last year we have a protected 1st round pick. If the Twins do take a step forward next year, they will be out of the "protect 10 picks". 3, We have a comp pick this year! We sign a guy like Scherzer or Shields, we give up the 2nd round pick, and still have a 1st and 2nd round comp. Again, 2015-16 offseason is a better gage of what The Twins need, but if this FA class looks better then the next. Go for it. Edit: they'd give up 2nd round pick, keep comp after the 2nd round.
  22. Because the Twins have such a balanced minor league system, it hard to sign a veteran without someone saying "but now ... is blocked". With the exception of signing a superstar at top dollar, the Twins are looking at a catcher, an outfielder, and maybe a starting pitcher. With the Suzuki extension they've addressed Catching (Pinto is a good fall back option). A Michael Cuddyer type on no more than a two year deal, and a pitcher who is better than anyone you have in AAA (which might be hard to justify given Meyer there). After that, its all about giving young players time to play. If Vargas is hitting 280-300 with 7-10 homeruns by the end of the year, Is it worth holding him back for guy on a one year deal?
