  1. I think this should be a trade of for a international draft. Cost control signing fees, but give everyone a livable wage (though federal minimal wage is hardly livable to begin with).
  2. A left hand complement? What is this the 1950's? As a southpaw I'm offend! We are not the utility infielders of the world! Keep it up Ashbury and I'll report you to the moderators. ;-)
  3. A perfectly healthy Graham would be the Twins... 7th best prospect. Even as a question mark, he'd be in the top 20. Not a bad target, no guarantee he'd be there when the Twins pick, especially with pick trading.
  4. Because the Twins have two 2nd round pics this year. it's almost like a gimme.
  5. Joel Sherman redacts statement. Says Twins pushing.
  6. 1) Why do you think the Twins would be interested in Crick? I mean, it not like they like 2011 1st round draft picks or anything? Susac is the Giants trade bait, a 24 AAA catcher blocked by Posey and would only need to be one of two piece the Twins would get back. 2) both Escobar and Santana deserve to start, this would allow that to happen until one falters and Sano takes over 3rd. Not a bad plan if it nets top talent.
  7. Around 2005, there were some general allegations that gay players were playing in baseball. And it became the national new cycle of the week. Reporters asked their teams 'would you play with a openly gay teammate'. Now, you could probably guess, that every Twins player but one declined to comment, you can guess who and you can guess what he said. That's not the point of the story, the point was after reading the whole 2 sentence The Star Tribune wrote about it, that was the 1st time I had to admit, the press in Minnesota protected Torii. Maybe it was the good quotes he gave and not wanting to piss him off. Maybe it was because beat reporters were expected to toe the line, but I was disappointed no one dared ask a follow up question. He got called out several times over his options on several matters when he moved on to LA and Detroit but never here. The closest was when in spring training the following year the press ask Cuddy if they would miss his leadership on the team and Micheal just answer "no". If the Pioneer Press wants a puff piece on Torii they can get it from Tom Powers. I'm glad one person will now challenge Torii at least 1/10th of what Mauer gets.
  8. Oh, He's not a regular starter, we know that. If he was a great fielder, the Yankees never would have traded him. But guys who do have a future in a starting role don't get wasted on the bench. He's a pinch hitter, just enough power to make the pitchers honest, he's a guy who can play in the infield when guys are nursing small injuries, and he will hit more than the Matt Tolberts ever will. A infielder who can hit has some value off the bench. How much value? Well probably not 2 million dollars worth of value. . But The Twins have their number and I don't think it too far off what the market would give him.
  9. With how many 5-10 day 'disable list' guys go down for having two Unti guys on this team is a must. I like Nunez over a lot of the other choices we've had over the years, and he can be nontenured next year if a beter option comes along. I'd take him over Colabello, Herrmann, Parmelee at this point, those are the guys yo let go of if you want to sign another FA or Rule 5 pick.
  10. I've only read one account, but this has more to do with his hitting being more advanced then his fielding. In other words, you want him up in 2 years move him to 2nd. If you want him to stick at short 3-4 years might be more plausible. He so young, and SS is so important I'd have to imagine they keep him at SS all through the minors.
  11. Franklin Barreto is a personal favorite of mind. Top International signing of his class, can stick at short, five tools, and just low enough down the totem pole where his value is still a question mark, so his market is not fully developed, but he could explode into a top 20 prospect. I think this will turn into a big win down the road for the A's, like Chuck Knoblauch trade good, where the Jays get a piece to help them compete now, and the A's get years and years of value for a decade.
  12. Besides a rule 5 draft spot or free space for a free agent signing, the other option is they contacted Swarzak agent about him accepting a low offer, when they finally got back to the Twins and said no, they let him go. Swarzak role is the easiest to fill and he never got good enough to start or be trusted as a late inning option, so give it to Pelf, a rule 5 guys, some minor league free agent, some other guy in the system whose earned a shot at being a big leaguer, or a bullpen ace like Butera.
  13. Sounds like Molitor wanted him on staff the whole time (acording to Rhett Bollinger). Maybe 1st base, maybe bench. We may never know. A bench coach is a resource for the manager. Collects match up info, should have a lot of data on switch hitters, match up history, defensive shifting, calls in for video replay info, helps run Spring training (One of many things Molitor has never done), basically an in game strategist. He would not be my choice, but looking at that criteria, he may not a bad choice. But I'd rather have a data guy then an old school guy, who's "been around the game". Both would be nice...
  14. One thing I've notice is range beats arm for fielding. Cuddy always had a good arm, but put Denard in right and it was a whole different defense. So I'd put arm last... power is expensive and speed can be felting. I'd put power over fielding, and Hit is number one. Hit Power Fielding Speed Arm
  15. That's something I've always respected about Twins Daily, is staff and posters giving credit to who broke the story or found the latest bit of info. Seth you in particular when you "break something" give the credit to Twins Daily as a whole. That doesn't go unnoticed.
  16. The thing I hate most about sources, is they can be anyone. Levelle or Berardino for example can quote A source close to a team, which could be Phil Miller who said something or even tweeted something. He's close to the team, and he said it, so they can say it. Information like this can become a chasing your own tail effect. I do massively respect the work Berardino been doing the last couple years. When trying to figured the "second finalist" for the pitching coach job it looked like he was contacting anyone he could think of just trying to see if they'd been approached by the Twins for an interview. He didn't just wait around for a Twins exec to feed him information, he was being a reporter.
  17. To %@#% with the Twins. They never sign any of these 22-26 year Cuban players, they need get on board with acquiring international talent, its not like these guys count against the Twins international singing allotment. What? They signed a 26 year old player from Korea in a position of need? ... To $#@!$ with the Twins! What are they doing?! On a far less sarcastic note. The dollars will tell the story. A 90's fastball, even a low 90's fastball on a lefty is good thing, a great slider he doesn't over use is a good thing, and being 26-27 on a rebuilding team is a good fit. People could and will comparing him to some of the top free agent pitchers on the market, but why not compare him to all the LHP in our system, especially the ones The Twins just left off their 40 man roster? When comparing him to some of the other lefties the twins have used over the past 2 years, it's seems like their ceiling (#5 starter, spot starter, Loggy) is his middle ground, where his ceiling might be much higher.
  18. Ryan has stated they wanted to get a start or two. This would be one. So in the hunt for two, but I'd be fine seeing what May could do to start the season.
  19. I get it. You have a Lefty in Jordan Schafer who can steal you 30-40 bases in year and a Righty in Wily Mo Pena who just hit 30 HR last year. And Roserio in AAA who doesn't have to start in the majors, but can take over if he gets hot by mid year. Nobody blocks any one, but you fill the need in left for the start of the year.
  20. Wow! I get why the author did it, but the way the graph is drawn, it makes it look like Eric Milton is a dead end even though he netted Punto, Silva, and Bobby Korecky who got in sixteen games for the Twins.
  21. Yep. most infamous example of this is David Ortiz being released just before the rule 5 and the Twins not ending up using the spot to draft anyone.
  22. If I remember correctly the 1st year Benson and Parmelee were eligible for the rule 5, they were not protected or taken (though that's the year they both had great years and were added later). When I think of guys like Micheals or Goodrum I think why risk it and then remember the option clock starts with these guys. Will they be ready, here to stay in 3 years? Can a team stash them? Last year people were surprised when they adding Polanco, Vargas, and Kepler. All 3 seem like smart moves in retrospect, lets hope these moves are also well planned out as well. My guess: Twins lose someone, just maybe not the guy or guys we think.
  23. For Aiken to fall to the Twins (assume he doesn't give the Astros permission to draft him again) The Diamondbacks, Rockies, and Rangers would have to pass on him. Not impossible. Someone going to try to cut a deal I'm guessing Colorado or Texas plays that card before the Twins could offer him slot. His Left handed power arm would look great in The Twins system. So would Kirby or Hopper. Whenever there is draft that looks Pitching heavy, a position player rises farther than he should. That might benefit the Twins greatly.
  24. I agree. The thing about being on the 40 man is your one injury away from being on the big league team. Or in Polanco case two. As unlikely as that might be, last year show that to be a possibility. More and more of the Twins 40 man is going to be made up of prospects and if a couple of infielders go down in spring training, it will be in Molitor's court to decided to go with a young guy sill developing or a minor league free agent they need to make room for on the 40 man, he's got a good background to make an informed decision. Final say is always Ryan's of coarse.
  25. I have no Idea what he thinks, or who he liked, if someone wants to go through old interviews, that would be interesting. That being said, before he was a coach last year he worked with all the position players from Rookie to AAA. When they set the 40 man, look at the position players on the roster and those are guys Molitor will have a say in who makes the team. So Roserio and Polanco could be two guys that find themselves in a position to make the team sooner than later.
