  1. Cubs boards are all saying Gordon at 4, based on who's on the Cub's short list and who they like, but they're as informed as we are and don't want the Cubs to go with a under-slot pick.
  2. DSL Twins played yesterday too. Beating The White Sox 2-0. Lewin Diaz Hit his 1st Home Run and scored both of the Twins runs. Diaz went 1-3 with a SO. Roni Tapia also went 1-3 with a SO in his effort to try to have identical stat lines with Diaz.
  3. I'm Guessing if it's Rodon, he would like to be paid like a top 2 pick, and the Twins won't go over slot. If's it's Kolek, he hasn't come to terms he isn't going top 3. Who have the Sox zero'd in on?
  4. Jim Callis twitted the odds of Kolek fall to the Twins at 5 are better than you think.... which makes Jim Callis an impressive mind reader.
  5. ESPN Article On draft success over the past 50 years. This came up months earlier when discussing Jackson and high school catchers, but we've been discussing position trends and high school vs college players for a while now. A few high lights: College 1st baseman are the safest picks in the 1st round. There is a higher fail rate among high school outfielders than high school catchers. High School 2nd baseman have the worst collective WAR over any other position or level.
  6. As Jake Mauer told reporters today, Felix Jorge has been sent back to Extended Spring training. Fernando Romero and Lewis Thorpe are coming to take Felix and Derrick Penilla spot on the Kernels. Jorge had a couple good relief appearances after being removed from the rotation; dropping is ERA down to.... sigh, 9.00.... 23/20 SO to Walk ratio... and 9 home runs over 39 innings. This is the right move for the Twins and the right move for Felix Jorge. The Twins have too many good pitching prospects between rookie and A ball, there is no need or reason to keep on some who struggles for two months. Also, making Jorge a bullpen pitcher this early in his career would be a waste of potential. Let she if they can get him back on track down south.
  7. Aiken, of all the top pitchers, I think is the safest in terms of injury risk. Though we don't have a definitive list of things that can lead to future season ending injury. Heavy pitch count in college (Rodon), Pitching in the offseason for tryouts (Kolek), or even heavy use of a slider compared to other pitches like a curveball, have all been suggested as indicators of break down later on. Aiken has avoided all of those. IMO Whoever gets him will be getting the best high ceiling/ low risk pitcher in the top half of the draft... Hear's hoping it's not the Sox.
  8. Here's a question: would you trade Fien or Duensing for the 39th draft pick like the Pirates did? In a draft like this, there are a few extra name I would like to add to the Twins system.
  9. Lewin Diaz season is about to start. I'd adopt him if it's possible.
  10. Luke Weaver: A target for the Astros in the 2nd round is a buzz kill.
  11. Jorge Pitched one scoreless inning in relief today. He needs a lot more of these outing to regaining his command, drop his ERA, and to convince the powers that be that he should stay in A ball and get another shot at starting this year.
  12. Well, Well, Well. Look who's playing Center field for the Miracle's tonight. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2014_05_29_ftmafa_clrafa_1&t=g_box&sid=milb
  13. We are a week out and I'm surprised the top tier is still in question. A couple weeks back the consensus was this was a 3 player top tier like last year, more are saying 5 or 6. It's hard being behind the Cubs, who might benefit the most by a last minute shake up.
  14. Law has a new mock up insider only: Top 3 pitchers go 1,2,3. Cubs go off the board looking for a deal. Twins still heaving on Gordon. Notes that assumes top 3 pitchers are gone.
  15. Jorge came in for relief today, not surprisingly he's lost his spot in the rotation for now, here is what Jeremy wrote in his Minor league report 5/26/2014: "Felix Jorge made his first relief appearances since starting his first eight games. He last 2.2 innings. He gave up a walk and three hits, which resulted in two earned runs. He struck out two. Jorge will be replaced in the rotation by Derrick Penilla."
  16. All 3 I'd love at pick 46.
  17. Not a lot of positive things to update about Jorge. Over the last few starts his ERA has ballooned to 8.80. His walks are up, his Home Runs are up, His losses are up, His strike outs are down. Jim Crikket...No I mean SD Buhr... No wait Bruce Wayne... Reported that the cold weather has lasted thru May, though no one on the team has used that as a excuse for bad pitching. Mike Berardino posted on his Twitter account that Rob Anthony said there was nothing wrong with Jorge speed, but was just having problems locating his pitches. Bottom line: Jorge keeps giving up one really bad inning. It's not an injury, but if he can't find his command soon there is a few other starters I can think of that would like his spot in the rotation.
  18. Matt Garrioch also posted his 2nd mock today as well: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2014/5/19/5724288/2014-mlb-mock-draft-version-2 Gordon is also Twins selection in this mock as well. I'd like the Twins to get a crack at Kolek, but I still don't see that happening.
  19. The random number of times it sends me to the app store to buy some candy game, get's really annoying.
  20. The only way it happens, is if the Twins and Gatewood come to a high predraft deal (coupled with savings at 5), and Gatewood's representatives ask him not to be drafted or for the teams to beat the Twins amount. Even if another team drafts him and offers him less, it might make him unsignable, because his self value is viewed to be whatever the Twins offered and he goes the college route. This happened with that @$$hole catcher from the last draft... Jon Denney who went to The Red Sox in the 3rd. A 1st Round talent with character flaws, that allowed him to fall out of day 1. Twins called to ask his price, and his adviser, let them know they came to a deal with The Red Sox. The Twins respected this and didn't draft him.
  21. Matt Garrioch North Region write up, Includes MN, WI, IA, ND, and SD. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2014/5/15/5717610/2014-mlb-draft-north-region
  22. The downside with having the White Sox draft just before us, is one of the guys I'll be rooting for the Twins to get, will go to them, at which point 'll have to start rooting against him. Kolek at 3 would suck and I wish Hoffman had been healthly for the draft.
  23. Seeing how low Weaver has been ranking on lists lately and how high the Twins have been on him, makes me think he is a possibility in the 2nd for the Hometown team.
  24. Not even Alexis Pantojas?!? The kid looks like he could be a steal in the 4th round. Here is a month old free article about him from Perfect Game: https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9734 At the end of the article David Rawnsley compares Pantojas defense with Gordon and Milton Ramos. Good read.
  25. Matt Garrioch at Minorleagueball.com has been writing regional breakdowns and rankings of draft eligible players. It's alway fun learning names of Puerto Ricans or Hawaiians that have a load of talent but limited exposure. Or Georgians that the Twins seem to focus on. He also doesn't follow the industry when it comes to rankings. Here is his Florida list: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2014/5/14/5711430/2014-mlb-draft-florida-region A few Highlights: He ranks Touki Toussaint #1. Call's Gordon a "near lock to stay at SS" and "a quick Bat". Thinks Luke Weaver is a mid rotation starter.
