  1. For free agent targets, he may be a good one, not in terms of ability or lack of ability but sign ability. Having won a championship and without having a long tenure with his pervious team, I'd suspect his number one priority is getting playing time and getting paid, something the Twins can offer. I don't think his signing would prohibit the Twins from signing pitching, my biggest concern is Pinto's playing time.
  2. I thnk the Twins will use there last spot and pick someone off the wavier wire instead. Maybe another Florimon move, where they pick and wave.
  3. Once this is officially confirmed, I expect the Twins organization to be very supportive, yet very firm. This means no big league camp invite, no spring training games with the big club, maybe no minor league games against other clubs too. After the suspension is done, I predict they'll send him to AA, even if for only two weeks, before a AAA promotion. All the while reassuring him he's in the teams long term plans. A September call up next year is still a possibility.
  4. Well, That's half right. Vargas didn't go back to Etown in 2012, he went to Beloit right after his suspension ended. But in Vargas case, since he was caught in a short season league, His suspension couldn't resume until after the Appalachian league started up again, making it a much longer suspension than just 50 games.
  5. Huh, Randy Bush only collected a 1.4 career war? Interesting. Second round picks, especially high second round picks have value, but the proper lens to look at it is through a trade. A trade for a large contact in which the Twins would have to give up a low minor guy with a high ceiling. One year out, a lot of those guys make top 20 prospect lists. Some free agents look like no brainers in that view, other guys it doesn't make sense. What makes this year hard to figure out, is if the Twins are rebuilding, but there competitive timeline is a couple years out. Does it make sense to starting buying free agents with a competitive team around the corner or to keep collecting prospects till the team starts showing they're ready to win. Again if we were ready to compete next year or if we were 3 years out this would be a much easier answer. I'm inclined to lean toward option number three: Target free agents who don't cost draft picks (which it appears is the Twins plan too).
  6. If he was suspended under short season rules (IE couldn't start serving he's suspicion until the short season started) then the option status should count the same way...
  7. Huh, I had never heard that before. Yeah, If this is true, it pushes Kepler from a maybe 40 man add, to a sure add. That type of talent needs to be protected. Kepler ceiling is so high, one strong statistical year from him, and one age appropriate league year from Walker and our system may not take a big hit after promotions from Sano and Buxton.
  8. And by odd, I mean for the players to sign. There's nothing wrong with depth for a team, but it seems like these two guys are going to get less at bats than last year.
  9. Reynaldo Rodriguez who was in AA last year? This seems odd. One of Hicks or Vargas must be moving to AA, they seem sure there is going to be room for him in AAA? Also for Romero to get at bats either Plouffe gets injured early or Sano starts the year at AA.
  10. You would think in year 3 of the 'Twins Daily' Best Player Available VS Best Pitcher Available debate would lose it's interest, but no, going strong. I'll echo my hope that Beede has a good year this year and makes the top level of talent stacked pass the five spot. The Twins when drafting high the last couple years seemed to have a target they highly favor and have gotten their "guy" two years in a row. This year it will be interesting to see who they have targeted and if anyone else ahead of them shares their interest.
  11. Screw Premature. There are some names on this years list that have so much talent they will always stay top 10, Barring injury or religious conversion to football that is. Rodon is the top talent, unless there is a money issues, he doesn't fall past the White Sox. Turner will always have his talent but could get lapped by guys having better years, but not do to a loss of ability. My main prediction will be that teams will commit to their guys early and we'll know who the top 3-4 are 2 weeks in advance.
  12. I could see that. Ranked 53 and 30 A- to A grade wouldn't make him board line. But if the big knock him is his health and he shows he's healthily and dominate, that could push him to the bottom of the A- IMO.
  13. I think every time John posts about Stewart he says "still the top high school pitcher to come out of the draft". Up until last year he never ranked hitters and pitchers on the same list, he felt they were too different skill sets to directly compare. Because of the limited action and SSS, most guys from the last draft don't move up or down the lists too much, so if he liked Frazier ahead of Stewart at the draft (and we're talking Frazier 4th and Stewart 5th) that would hold true until next year. There are exceptions thou, Meadows this year, Barrios improved his stock last year. My guess is Meyer will get a +B/ board line -A grade from Sickels (With a change to a true -A if he has a strong AFL). Where Rosario will be ranked a straight B+ and the 2nd/3rd best 2B prospect in the game.
  14. That would probably be my list too. There are little things I enjoy as a prospect watcher, like being included in every short hand ranking of predraft prospects (top 5) . Or being ahead of the Cubs and grabbing guys they like, after they target several international players this year. It's not much, but I'd rather pick ahead of them instead of right behind them.
  15. I'm guessing they used their top 4 slots and can't trade slot money anymore, but are still under "cap" room, so they can sigh guys for more than 10 grand if they want to from now until next July. Surprised to see no reported Australians signed yet.
  16. I'd say they need to sign three again. 2 high performers and 1 injury/ low performer gamble.
  17. This is the key in my mind. a couple of top high school pitching prospects last year were rumored to be interested in signing with an MLB club rather then signing with a Japan team. When the first kid does do it, it could start a huge talent drain for Professional Baseball in Japan.
  18. I saw Polanco play twice this year at short. Though he had good range for the position his arm looked weak. Not out of place weak, more like Dozier weak. I think both Goodrum and Polanco split SS again next year if they both get promoted to Fort Myers.
  19. Booo! SD Buhr back me up here, Jim Crikket is being a downer again.
  20. The Interviews would be small. I'd guess only Glynn, Molitor, and Ullger would get interviews. Lip service and maybe a phone would be made regarding Redmond and another big name like Ozzie Guillen. But the Twins would have to trade for Redmond given his three year contract, and that's a long shot. [h=3][/h]
  21. I think it the general concern that the Twins aren't making a play in a market, that's becoming a pipeline for other teams. The Twins were late to the party in the DR, and there late getting back into Cuba. It's nice their dipping their toes in the pool, but they haven't taken a legit dive yet, and when many Cuban prospect are considered more advanced they line up nicely with the core prospects coming up. I understand protecting draft picks, playing under a budget, and not trading under distress, but this is an area they need to take a chance on a put a legit bid in, rather then simply window shop.
  22. Thanks for the post Die Hard. During a losing season it's sometimes hard to stay positive, but looking ahead at our prospect it becomes easier to do. I think your list is pointing out a trend, that the Twins have a lot of strong pitching prospects In rookie thru A ball. Giving there pitching heavy International signings and drafts this isn't surprising, but After two years when Buxton, Pinto, Sano, Santana, and Rosario have all been promoted This system looks like it going to flip from being a hitting heavy system to a pitching heavy one. I can't wait to see what the systems top 10 looks like then.
  23. Right. The only thing worse for a player's leverage than failing a Physical is failing a second Physical with a different team. I doubt the Agent contacted any other teams after that happened and just worked on a deal with the Phillies.
  24. Max Kepler Back in the Line up after getting stitches in his hand... and goes yard!
