28 runs in 9 innings for our bullpen in this series. 28!!!

We're number 1! We're number 1! We're number 1! (a record's a record, right? I'm sort of assuming that's some sort of record)

So, since Santana exited, the Astros have scored 38 runs in 20 innings of baseball.  That's tee-ball numbers.

More positive....We do get to face Nolasco and Meyer in the LA series and Trout won't be playing.

I know this is supposed to make me feel better, but it doesn't.

Pujols is sitting on 599 HRs right?  What does he end the series with?

Might as well put out a tee and save some money.

After all, if you win only 4 out of every 14 games, you're a 46 win team.  I would say it's fair to say this team over the past 3 days has looked about 13 wins worse than last year's edition.

The Twins went into this series outperforming their Pythagorean projection by 5 wins, and the two most commonly credited reasons for wins exceeding Pythag are an exceptional bullpen and brilliant managerial maneuvering.

Therefore we can expect the good ship TwinkieTown to right itself any moment now...

So how did this team accomplish that?

I don't know about that--from the start of the season through yesterday, there have been 56 days, and he's made 21 appearances, so he's averaging more than a day of rest in between appearances; he's also only pitched back-to-back 5 times this year.  Until this past Sunday and Monday, he had never thrown more than 28 pitches in any two day span, and 44 is his max for any 3 day span--that's not a crazy workload.  By the end of his 6th appearance (which was on the 14th day of the year), his ERA was over 8, so fatigue is not it, unless he can't be allowed to pitch more than every 3rd to 4th day, which is a problem.  Let's just call this what it is--Pressly is a Blind Squirrel.

Guess I should have specified.  I meant overuse the last two years.  Particularly first half of the season.

2015: The stats show he made 27 first half appearances.  Doesn't sound like that many for the first half, right?  Dig deeper.  His first appearance was May 3rd.  Before that he made 7 in AAA.  His last was July 4th.  After that he was on the DL.  So, that's 27 appearances in 62 days.  17, you read that right, SEVENTEEN, were on 0 or 1 day of rest.  In two months.

2016:  Pressly made 44 appearances before the All Star Break last year.  As I recall, that was at or near the most in MLB.  Those 44 appearances came in the team's first 86 games. 13 times on 0 days of rest. 17 times on 1 day.  That's BEFORE the break. He did not pitch after getting pummeled the Friday before the break.  It was merely foreshadowing.  Prior to the break, including his last outing, he had posted a .686 OPS.  After, it was .781.  But he also had his workload severely reduced.  He appeared in just 28 of the team's final 74 games (actually final 76 if you include the last two days before the Break).

Keep in mind, this team was eliminated in like May last year.  There was no reason to overuse anybody.  Would it really have mattered if the Twins had lost 5-10 more games last year and maybe used Pressly in a few less of them?

There are similar numbers for Tonkin and May.  Pressly's are the most egregious though.

Yes, Pressly has been badly overworked.  By a bad bullpen manager.

Just got here........should be fun reading this thread....OUCH is all I got for this game

"Ouch" is an actual post in this thread too, so that reaction is appropriate.

If Ernie Banks was a Twin, even he would not say let's play 2 today...

Yes. More like 'Let's chug two!'

Are you honestly saying he was SO overworked that he couldn't recover in 5 whole months?  If so, that's not overworked, that's injured.  I think it's much more likely, because it's a much simpler explanation, that he's just not that good this year.

I would say that is extremely likely.  There just has not been any medical evidence of it so far.

But would you not agree that the overuse at the very least contributed to any likely injury he has?

I was trying to lighten the mood.

I thought it was funny. Evidently, I wasn't, however. :)

Pressly is headed to AAA, Wheeler has been DFA'd. I imagine one of Busenitz/Hildenberger is coming up and the other... ummm... I dunno.

Nope, I thought you were, but wasn't sure. stupid internet.

In other words, a typical day on TD. It wouldn't be the internet if things weren't taken out of context, misinterpreted and handles flown off.

The only eligible pitcher in AAA on the 40 man is Tepesch. So, there is either another 40 man move coming, or someone from AA is. Or Tepesch is. I can't imagine why Tepesch would get another shot.

Sounds like we can DFA Tepesch without fear then, so simple enough to open a 40 man spot, while we are at it, if Drew Rucinski joined him as a DFA it wouldn't cause much of a stir.
