gil4 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Desmond to play 1B, well into his thirties, for that much money, and losing the 11th pick? I'm not sure my fandom could survive that move.I'm pretty sure mine could, although my sanity, if it was still around, probably wouldn't. TheLeviathan and d-mac 2
d-mac Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 royals have one of the best defensive OF in the game. One might argue when a healthy Gordon, Cain and Dyson are out there, they have the best defensive OF in baseball. And Orlando is awesome too. They led the majors in DRS for OF and were 2nd in UZR. Doesn't mean they believe in those metrics. All of their outfielders are well regarded defenders by traditional scouting methods of defense.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 The White Sox are about to get Lucas Giolito and others for Adam Eaton. I so hate the White Sox. On the bright side, the Sox got Eaton by trading Hector Santiago and a PTBNL. Surely the Twins can trade Santiago and a PTBNL for a similar return. HitInAPinch, d-mac and TheLeviathan 3

As much as I hate the White Sox with every bone in my body, I gotta give them credit for being aggressive and effective in player acquisition and also for cutting bait on players when they aren't getting it done. d-mac 1

I thought Reynaldo Lopez would almost be too much to give up for Eaton straight up, but I think I'm underrating how good Eaton is. Still, what a haul for the White Sox.

On the other hand I was thinking the White Sox must have thought the same which is why they chose the Red Sox deal and here they are going right back to the Nationals and getting him for Eaton, who upon closer inspection does have a really nice contract and record of consistency. Probably a lot better player than most people would give him credit for. Still, I'm really jealous of the White Sox right now. Vanimal46 1
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Unreal. Eaton's bat was better than I thought but giving up Giolito? Not sure I'd have done that. His value must be lower inside the industry than in fans eyes. bluechipper and Vanimal46 2

Still, what a haul for the White Sox.Yeah Eaton was a 6 WAR player this year and under contract for another 5 years at a reasonable rate. He certainly has a lot of value as a top of the order hitter. I'm wondering if the Nats are trying to get out while they're ahead with Giolito. They seemed pretty hell-bent on trading him this winter. bluechipper 1

His value must be lower inside the industry than in fans eyes.Well, we as fans tend to over rate prospects every year. Eaton's been sneaky good the last 3 years, and topped out at 6 WAR this year. He's 28 and signed through his age 33 season where you'd want to get rid of him at that point. The ball is in the White Sox' court to make this a good deal from their side. Fix Giolito and develop the other 2 prospects. gunnarthor 1

TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Anyone still want to hang on to Ervin Santana in this trade market? No? Me either. Some of us have been pleading for the Twins to sell. It looks like the awful FA market is ramping the seller's market even higher than anyone could have dreamed. Sell! brvama Provisional Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 These trade surprises me a bit with return for the WS. Must be that Easton had a "brilliant" year with a line of .284/.362/.428 with 14 HR / 14 SB. ("Brilliant" from the article.). If that is the case how does one describe Doziers line of .268/.340/.546 with 42 HR / 18 SB. It would appear that he should return the same and more. BuxtonBandwagon and d-mac 2

bluechipper Provisional Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 This just sounds wrong: Adam Eaton traded for a top 5 prospect, plus a top 50 prospect, and a recent first round pick. I just can't get over this trade. zenser, BuxtonBandwagon, brvama and 2 others 5

bluechipper Provisional Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I wonder how much cheaper the cost would have been for the Nats to acquire Andrew McCutchen. It'll be interesting to see how this affects his trade market.

That's true. When I read the article on MLB Rumors I took it as they were describing his offense only. Certainly Eaton carries other positives. Still I believe Dozier should net a similar or better haul. bluechipper 1
