ashbury Verified Member Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 I perceive quite a streak of entitlement throughout this court nomination process. Now, we're being told in effect that the low hurdle a nominee must pass is not having been actually had charges brought against him for attempted rape at a party. Police weren't called - hey, he must be a swell guy. Common sense would prevail if the nominee didn't check all the right boxes for the political party in control.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted September 23, 2018 Author Posted September 23, 2018 I'd rather be comfortably labeled racist ... Then have to put up with this nonsense .... Being called a racist doesn't really mean anything anymore ... It's pretty much a stock retort these days ... At least I can take solace in the fact that my daughter told me that she now understands why she should keep her distance from the Somali kids at school.hadn't heard about this yet. Must have been scary and enraging. Hating an entire ethnic group isn't the answer.

Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 The report on Star Tribune says that no injuries were reported, and police have said there is "no evidence of any weapons being used". So, in addition to the hateful nature of the post here, it also appears to be factually incorrect.

Badsmerf Verified Member Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 Axios is saying rod Rosenstein is resigning.... This could get dirty...
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Other reports are saying he expects to be fired. I think it matters in terms of Trump's ability to appoint his successor. I don't know the nuance here, and I don't really have a chance to study it right now; but I hope Rosenstein doesn't make it easy for Trump.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Sounds like Rosenstien will meet with Trump on Thursday and will remain on the job.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 He should make Trump fire him. I'm bias, because I don't want a yes man overseeing a potentially incriminating investigation against Trump. I would feel the same regardless of party.

TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Hasn't it long been assumed that Rosenstein is a key protector of Mueller and his firing could eventually lead to an attack on the investigation? I'm just making sure I'm up to speed on this. He seems like one of the good guys in public service - there to do a job more than act beholden to a party.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Hasn't it long been assumed that Rosenstein is a key protector of Mueller and his firing could eventually lead to an attack on the investigation? That's my understanding as well.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 Can Trump directly fire him? I thought sessions was the only one with that ability. Trump firing sessions to get to Rosenstein to get to Mueller would be incredible.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Can Trump directly fire him? I thought sessions was the only one with that ability. Trump firing sessions to get to Rosenstein to get to Mueller would be incredible.Rosenstein's Wikipedia page says he was nominated for his job by Trump. At first blush that would seem to indicate Trump could remove him, but maybe there's a better source of that information. OTOH Trump nominated a Supreme Court justice or two, and they can be removed only by the Senate, so it's really unclear. Trump was "credited" with firing Sally Yates, from the same position, but maybe that is political shorthand.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 Ok just read it. Trump can fire Rosenstein. Rosenstein had authority over the Mueller probe because sessions recused himself. I wonder if firing sessions, and putting in an attorney general not recused would allow new attorney general to fire Mueller. This white house is bananas.

This white house is bananas. If Rosenstein resigns, Trump can fill the vacancy with nearly anyone who is currently in a senate-confirmed position. However, if he's fired, Trump can't take advantage of the Vacancy Act, and the job goes to "first assistant" at Deputy Attorney at the DOJ (I have no idea who that is), until the senate is able to confirm whomever Trump formally nominates.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 The UN laughed at Trump today. Seriously, the world laughed at us. We have to stomach 2 more of these idiotic speeches in front of the world during this presidency.

We have to stomach 2 more of these idiotic speeches in front of the world during this presidency. He is now claiming “Oh it was great. Well that was meant to get some laughter, but it was great.” Even though at the time he said "I didn't expect that reaction." He is like a little kid who claims he did not go into the cookie jar while holding the cookie in his hand, except a four year old might be more likely to own up and take responsibility for his actions.

My 4-6 y/o's own up and admit their wrongs, even the one that has a history of "big stories".

You would just get a lot more information about the most recent episode of He-man that they've viewed. So, actually, more entertaining, honest, and coherent. Sad state of affairs at 1600 Penn.

PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Is He-man back? I'm glad someone thought to ask; my disillusionment has reached such a height that this is question I really want answers to.
biggentleben Verified Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Is He-man back? It's on Netflix, and upon me opening the pilot episode for fun with them, my kiddos became hooked, so the 60-70 episodes they have on the service are currently being worked through!
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 You can then introduce them to great 80's cinema, mullets, and the role where Courtney Cox was robbed of an Oscar (I don't even think she was nominated).
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Author Posted September 27, 2018 Did everyone listen to the press conference? I caught a bit of it. There is a reason he doesn't do these. I find it hilarious he keeps calling the New York Times failing... but keeps talking about how he reads them! Then, says they'll endorse him or go bankrupt. I didn't hear all of it, so did any familiar journalists ask any tough questions?

flpmagikat Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Jesus christ, do you even believe yourselves anymore? You think a "Blue wave" is coming, because of brett kavanaugh? I'm as liberal as the day is long, and I've voted for your **** candidates because its in my best interest to not let the other guy win. Not because I've ever been inspired, felt any real passion for, by a democrat not named barack. Please aim higher than assuming the populace is dumb and ignorant. Even if that is true, we are still losing almost every election that matters. We go into a knife fight getting stabbed and lay down dying claiming we had the moral upperhand. ****ing fight, bring a gun if need be
flpmagikat Verified Member Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Also do really believe we don't win because we don't have the numbers? We lose because we run milquetoast candidates who stand for almost nothing. And then cry when we lose to people and systems that are set up to disenfranchise us, but they really believe in only one thing, winning elections and making sure they are "right". Y'all love baseball and want the twins to be better, with better coaching and better drive. Well lets do that in the democratic party. Its still our best defense against what is happening now.
