What's with Berrios, anyway? I understand early career jitters, but did he really get to the bigs throwing pitches this flat? Major leaguers just LOVE pitches with a nice, flat trajectory. How does that translate into Berrios being a front line starter? This ledge is high, and birds seem to have no trouble... ;-)

 

Up until last year, that was KLAW's biggest concern......flat balls (which are not as funny as schwetty balls, btw).

Dozier has really bounced back, and he's become our best all around player again.   However, it's ok to rest him from time to time.   I hope Molly starts to do this a bit in the lost season.   I would keep him healthy and well rested over the rest of this year.

They're clawing their way back.  Just need some pitching stops and keep chipping away.  It's still early.

It still doesn't erase the bad taste of a poor Berrios start, though...

Halloween blizzard of 91 was my first date with my now wife.

 

We had been trying to find a day for a few weeks, and that day worked. Frankly, I was worried she might be blowing me off.....

 

So, I leave the house in EP (driving a damn Plymouth Horizon, sigh, how did she date me?), and there are already about 4 inches of snow on the ground. I get to Edina (near Southdale) in about 30 minutes or so...and the first place we try to go to is closed (I was taking her to Fuddruckers before going to a movie, ah, the days of no money and classy date joints). We discuss things, and agree to go to Joe Sensor's for our first date. About 6-7 inches of snow on the ground. 

 

Now, thankfully, this is 1993, and not today, so, I know this is hard to believe....but there are only a few TVs in the place, because walls can only hold so many TUBE TVs (or, they were just expensive...). IIRC, we had chicken fingers and talked for like 3 hours. 

 

By the time I got home, there were some 12+ inches of snow on the ground. I have no idea how my "car" even got me home. 

 

What few recall is that there was a "Thanksgiving" blizzard that year also. We had a date, and I had to sleep on her couch because I couldn't get home safely (yes, couch, it hadn't even been a month people). Her college roommate was getting married the next day. Her car was snowed in. Her roommates car was a stick (you ever try to drive a stick for the first time in snow!). So, I drove her to the wedding, in the clothes I slept in. We were not the only ones to show up in slept in clothing. And, while the city had plowed a path from the bride's house to the church (government isn't all bad, you know), no one had though to request the same for the groom. He was almost late.....and people were getting nervous.

 

It's great to have an easy to remember first date.....

 

. I spent the first storm snowed into Mankato. Me and another guy took his front wheel drive to a local liquor store, and filled the orders other motel guest had given. Everyone brought chairs from their rooms to the lobby. It was a blast. And the thanksgiving Friday blizzard I spent driving to St. Paul. I do think that storm and east to become part of "The Perfect Storm".

I didn't get to experience any of these awesome weather related disasters first hand... I've heard stories about that infamous Halloween blizzard in 1991, but I had better things on my mind at the time... Like bouncing in a chair, or eating Gerber baby food. I don't know, whatever 18 month olds have on their minds...

 

I don't know either, but when I try to imagine it, I think of TD GT. It's as close as I can get! :)

Remember all Tommy Milone at Rochester the last two years had 80 IP and a 1.5 ERA and under 1 WHIP.  Big difference between AAA and MLB.  Berrios needs time, but he can't keep giving up rockets everywhere.  And Grossman as a way better OF defensively than Sano or Arcia.  We don't need some computer geek to figure that out, Stevie Wonder would tell you that.

So....do we burn Albers this game, save him for the next one or have him pitch in both?  

 

I believe he is only eligible to pitch in Game #2.

He should be told 'NO strikeouts', learn to pitch without relying on striking out batters. Yes, pitch to contact, but pitch to induce bad contact. Let your defense field some balls. This should also help his pitch count so he can get out of the fifth inning.
