I've probably told this story, but I was at the Big A that night when Niekro got ejected.  4th deck, between 1st and home.  I could see the board fly out of his pocket from there.

 

Neikro didn't think it through.

 

1. He should found an emery board that was the same color as his fingernails.

 

2. Cut it in patterns that match the size and shape of his fingernails. 

 

3. Have the cutouts surgically attached permanently as implants. 

 

To my knowledge... there is no rule against that.

Only two 1Bs have more defensive runs saved than Mauer. They both have eight DRS. Of the top 5 in DRS at 1B (two with 8, three with 6), 4 of them have at least 873 innings played going into today.  Except Mauer who had 636.
