Free agency has pretty much come to a close, and another fail from Ryan.

We needed pitching badly in the starting rotation and the bullpen. So what does Terry do with our FA money instead of targeting guys like Gallardo, Kazmir, Clippard, Latos, Bastardo, etc.. ? He gets Park, lol a huge risk that will mostly likely blow up in our faces again..(Look at our last Asian signing) I think Ryan is petrified to go big for another pitcher because of one of the worst FA signing in twins history (Nolasco)

Hope he proves me wrong, but at this point I seriously doubt it!

I have to agree. I think the team would be much stronger with a GM more willing to go after FAs. He seems so reluctant to spend money on anyone- i feel like the twins would be a serious playoff contender this year if we had gotten at least one notable FA pitcher.

I don't understand why people think the Twins should pursue a starter when they already have so many on the roster it's unlikely they'll have room for one of the best pitching prospects in all of baseball.

Cause most of the starters we have are not good to put it nicely

Maybe trade would have been the route then. Milone Plouffe and Nolasco could have gotten someone, maybe Kazmir or someone of his caliber, while clearing the roster for Berrios, Duffey, etc.

They're not bad, either.

Except Nolasco but he's one guy out of EIGHT (Hughes, Gibson, Milone, Nolasco, May, Santana, Duffey, Berrios).

No. More. Starters.

May is not a starter, Milone is bad JMO. Gallardo and Latos are easy 3, Gallardo possibly a 2 in our system. Pains me to watch Baltimore make moves while we sit here and get guys like Park (lol)

I was hoping they'd trade Milone this offseason. Nolasco is negative value at this point. If you want to trade Plouffe and get something in return, best to keep Rickey out of the deal.

It's not like they were terrible either.  If we signed any more veteran arms Twinsdaily would explode, along with the heads of half of its posters.  I'd move May to the rotation, put all my eggs in the Duffey basket, and break camp with Berrios before I'd go sign another veteran arm.  Get to the All Star break then see if the rotation needs upgrading.  A full year of Santana, a healthy Nolasco and Hughes, Gibby was supposed to be leading the rotation by now, and young promising arms to supplement.  No reason the rotation shouldn't be markedly better this season.

May was possibly the best starter on the team last season.

 

And Milone has been worth over 6 wins in roughly three seasons of play. He's a pretty good #5, acceptable #4 at times. No, he doesn't throw nasty stuff and he doesn't post gaudy numbers but he gets the job done and has for quite some time now.

 

Hell, even removing those two leaves you six guys under contract who can start.

May is better in a bullpen role. Setup man even, he could be great there

Because All-Star third basemen were being traded for pocket change this offseason.

Good gm could have gotten something good. Molitor is a great manager though and will hopefully make up for Ryans ineptness!

Yeah, that's not true.

How can you get something "good" for Plouffe when the Reds struggled to get a decent return on the likes of Frasier?

Reds are not too good with the trades.. lol their fan base despises their GM

What team in their right mind would trade for Plouffe?  David Freese is still available as a FA and posted a similar line last year.

 

It's not like Plouffe is a huge bargain.

I'd take Latos (and a head doctor ;) ) over Milone any day.

 

Gallardo is apparently hurt (or something,) so that's a different story.

IMO the Twins are still up a bucket of balls, ergo why would anybody trade for Plouffe when they could just sign Freese.  They both:

 

A.  Will likely make a similar salary this year

B.  Will likely provide similar defense this year

C.  Will likely provide similar offense this year.

 

It doesn't matter if the Twins get fleeced, the original team would still be better off just signing Freese.  Which nobody has yet done.
