Looking at the facts, we should not be able to win this game. But we all know that facts don’t really mean anything. If they did, the sun would still be orbiting Earth at the superduperultrasonic speed of once a day – or, to be more exact, once a day would come with each lap around our planet. You know, looking back on history and facts, I wonder how the days managed to stay the same length after we started circling the sun, especially considering the fact that we now spin in circles as we go. I guess when you put it into perspective, it’s easier to understand why they had to add those extra 6 hours, 9 minutes, and 9.54 seconds. Anyway, I digress (that right, Chi? Haha … yes … if I were to regress I would have to do something like actually believe the nonsense I just typed up). What I’m saying is, facts do not matter. Luck is a huge factor in life … maybe we’re lucky that we’re the ones orbiting the sun … maybe not … but it seems as though our respectable forefathers lived comfortably (albeit without baseball) back in the primitive days that the sun circled the earth. Again … I digress and regress. If we want to win this game, we have to go for the luck factor. It’s kind of like playing a game of cribbage against your mom who pretended to teach you all the tricks but neglected to explain how to deal yourself good hands. Therefore, your knowledge of the game is just as superior as hers, but when she deals, she’s sure to get a good hand, whereas you get an exceptionally bad one. Your turn to deal comes, and all you get is a mediocre hand matched by a generally equally mediocre hand for your mom. As long as fate smiles on you and your cribs somehow bring in more points than your mom’s, you just might be able to avoid being skunked. That is, until you learn the art of counting. Once you learn to count for big points and set up your mom to give you big points, you can stay neck and neck throughout the game. The Twins must do that this game … if we don’t master the art of counting, the Indians will win the game before the Twins get to third street and skunk us out of the playoffs. Anyway … sorry for not giving you your things to think about. I’m busy confirming Hrbowski’s previous statement that I’m streaky like Kyle Gibson. Speaking of streaky, let’s hope that Gibson doesn’t express his dismay and disappointment by streaking across the field if he loses yet another game. It doesn’t matter if I do since I’m up in Minnesota and would have to content myself with a high school field, so nobody of consequence would see me. I’m sorry if I used any words out of context this time around … I’m too tired to find them if I did. I also don't want to lose my edit button, and I accidentally posted this after I stuck in the 5 things format and had to start over again. I meant to wait until the lineups went up, but I made a grave mistake that I hope Gibson doesn't mimic. Enjoy the game! Let's go out there and show Thieveland what SANOizm is really all about!
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Actually days don't stay the same length. They are (very) gradually getting longer as the Earth's rotation slows down due to tidal friction. Gravitational coupling with the Moon, dontcha know? So in return the moon is moving further away. Angular momentum is once again conserved. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_acceleration

Do we need to petition NASA to start sending Astronauts back on the moon...... to ya know, add some extra weight to slow it down?

ashbury Verified Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 New to the site but, GO twins. Very important we sweep the indians imo. Welcome indeed, and ditto about the need to win, one game at a time. Hopefully you've lurked at least a little, so that you know sometimes in game threads we veer a bit off topic - the metaphor is friends gathering in the left field cheapseats to enjoy the game and each other's company and root root root for the Twins. Ginger-vs-MaryAnn has become less of a staple now that some actual g-g-g-girls (for instance our thread-starter today) have joined in the fun. Nature abhors a vacuum (so does my cat) and if the game comments start to slacken then the side comments begin to dominate, but it's usually possible to get back to game talk if that's the group's desire. One thing we try to avoid is getting into deep discussion of broad issues like the team's direction and so forth - there are plenty of other forum threads here at the site for that. If you arrive in the 7th inning drunk and all you seem to want to discuss is Joe Mauer's salary now that he's in the middle of an o-fer, the ushers will perhaps see you out. Discuss what comes to mind, but don't take anything other than the progress of the game too terribly seriously. So strap in to your rocket seat for some rock-em-sock-em astronomy discussions, with a bit of game events thrown in too.
