Is it time for a new GM?

Removing the GM does very little when the rest of the front office remains. It's well past time to replace members of the front office. Ryan has to get his information from someone. He doesn't scout every player the Twins acquire.

Ok, can't keep refreshing MLBTR the next two hours. Prediction time for me. No reason to believe for it to happen but I'll guess a big deal: Shields, Benoit, Norris and Clint Barmes to the Twins for Nolasco, Milone, Kohl Stewart, Duffy, Danny Santana, Arcia and the Twins 2016 comp pick.

I'd do that in 1 second if MN. I'd even do that if they made me keep Nolasco.

Yeah, I'd do that deal three times if I was Ryan... Which is why it's almost surely not going to happen.

Yeah sorry, I had this thread confused with the list of 1000 baseball player thread for a moment.

The Jepsen acquisition does nothing for me... I'm not outraged, not excited, it's just too little too late. The Blue Jays continue to load up for the playoff race.

It's like if your significant other asks you for months to take out the trash. If you ignore it for months, and at the very last minute you say hey honey, look the trash it out! The damage is done already.

The only bigger loser than the twins this deadline was the Padres.

Terry Ryan completely blew it. The twins are more or less toast unless someone from the minors comes up and pitches lights out in the pen.

Too bad, it could have been a real fun and magical season.

Fire Ryan the day the season ends.

Sounds like the voice of experience, there. :)

I am more likely to say yes now.

This acquisition isn't moving the needle. Once again, a team in the playoff hunt is not offered meaningful help by this GM.

Also, saying he'd do Ramos for Capps again (which I somehow missed before)? Really?

To quote StatFreak: "Season over."

I may be a young pup with relationships but I've already learned that it's better to just do what she asks to avoid being in the dog house :)

Ha! you think that'll keep you out of the dog house???!?

You ARE a young pup.

Unfortunately using TR quotes doesn't help with staying out of the doghouse....

"Honey I have every intention of improving this trash situation."

"I don't want you to think a white knight is coming around the corner."

Would any other GM in any other sport survive such mediocrity?

Not many.... Doug Melvin has been with the Brewers since 2002, mixed bag of success. Billy Beane with the A's since 1997. One playoff series victory against our favorite club.

Most would argue that Beane has done more with a whole lot less, but I think even he is feeling that it's time for the A's to make a serious run which lead to his aggressive deadline last year.

I forgot that Melvin had been around so long.

No doubt. TR and Billy may have similar budgets to maintain, but TR has the HUGE advantage of recruiting people to play in one of the best ball parks in the MLB. Meanwhile Beane attempts to sell players on playing in a concrete ****-hole of a building.

In a metro market dominated by the Giants, not the A's, and virtually no broad geographic support.

I wouldn't even call the budgets similar, the Twins have 22 mil more in payroll then the A's this year (30% more)
