SwainZag Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 My guess Santana to the TwinsHicks to the Twins Aaron Thompson to RochesterSano to Rochester That's it for a while With Santana not pitching til the 5th, doesn't really make sense to have him tie up a roster spot for 3 days.
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 With Santana not pitching til the 5th, doesn't really make sense to have him tie up a roster spot for 3 days. Plus he's not even eligible to join the team until July 4th.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 AA? Why AA? Vargas had a 130 wRC+ in AA last year, identical to his mark in high-A the year prior (and with better K and BB rates in AA). And he had a 165 wRC+ in his brief AAA sample this year (albeit with a higher K rate). Its almost like he's in the doghouse, but who knows for sure. Maybe they want him to see the AA coach or something.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Often players are sent AA rather than AAA, because the bitter attitudes of some of the ex-MLB players at AAA may be toxic to genuine prospects.I doubt a demotion from MLB to AA happens "often" after a player has 400 MLB PA and some AAA experience, although I am sure it's not unprecedented.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 A bit of a surprise to me. I wonder if Kenny had some words when he was pinch hit for today.
Tuba Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 E. Santana is a career .125 hitter but has never DH'd, for those wondering
Tuba Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Also with the Twins going promotion crazy this year I bet it is Sano, any other year I'd say Hicks.
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Also with the Twins going promotion crazy this year I bet it is Sano, any other year I'd say Hicks. Arcia's bat has finally come to life...

For the Twins definitely not unprecedented... Hicks. I guess Vargas is moving down to Hicks prospect status now. Give it another year, and odds are he gets "Ortized."
Rosterman Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 They have to make a s[pot for Ervin. They have no third baseman OR first baseman at Rochester right The Twins don't have a centerfielder.now.
SwainZag Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Also with the Twins going promotion crazy this year I bet it is Sano, any other year I'd say Hicks. If the Robinson injury is serious at all, they need another OF up with the club. Thus I would put money on Hicks before Sano.

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I'm starting to think that the move is:Demote Vargas, call up Sano.Put Robinson on 15 day DL and activate Hicks. However, if Sano is headed to 3B at AAA after Wheeler's departure, then who takes DH? Perhaps Kepler or Walker get called up (if Walker, then Nolasco goes to the 60 day DL to make room on the 40 man). EDIT: It's been confirmed by several tweets. Sano is coming up.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 @RhettBollinger: Just heard from a well-placed source that Miguel Sano will be getting the call up to the Twins.

jokin Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Yeah, our favorite team has done that historically every 13 years.Well, actually they've sent someone all the way down to AA two years in a row. And they haven't had someone else who's game resembled Ortiz's, so the comps are entirely accurate.

d-mac Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 yeah, I think this is Sano. Not sure why they sent Vargas down to AA, but who knows. It's probably the roster move that doesn't strain too many of Terry Ryan's brain cells. Because sending Vargas to AAA, sending a AAA player to AA and calling up Sano involves too much thinking. I mean the only other, but not very logical reason would be to send Vargas a message. I don't what that would be, he doesn't seem like the kind that goofs off, he just can't hit major league pitching.
d-mac Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Ervin is back, they are going with all pitchers, that or Kepler or sano..... 14 man staff. It's the new thing. MOAR PITCHERS!
d-mac Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Just looking at box scores from this past week, Rochester is still giving lots of corner OF / 1B / DH playing time to Wilkin Ramirez, Reynaldo Rodriguez, Eric Farris, Nate Hanson, and Jose Martinez, all age 28 or older, all with OPS's .720 or lower. Seems like there is plenty of room to play Vargas, Sano, Kepler, Hicks, and Arcia there, if so desired. Think of all those roster moves that would have to be made though! So much work.
d-mac Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 For the Twins definitely not unprecedented... Hicks. I guess Vargas is moving down to Hicks prospect status now. Give it another year, and odds are he gets "Ortized." It's not that Vargas was ever much of a prospect. His best defensive position has always been DH, he was old for each of the minor league levels, IIRC, and never showed much game power.
d-mac Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 The Ortiz deal was 13 years ago. The people who made that mistake are still in charge now. That's why this is relevant. Also, unicorns aren't real.

HitInAPinch Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Bummer. Vargas is better than AA competition, for sure. That's probably the reason he was sent there
