Things to Think About:

 

1. This Weekend -- I'll be taking a 4 day break from the Game Thread setups. It's a vacation... It's actually more like a party. All the Moderators will be descending upon Minneapolis to take in Twins Baseball this weekend and I am absolutely excited about it. So excited... I can't really focus on tonight's game. We are traveling far and wide to get together... The Pub Crawl is Saturday... So the entire weekend is a chance to meet online friends from the Twins Daily community... And it's about time. Twins Daily is a special place with special people and I'm looking forward to the weekend.

 

2. Immediate 5 Run Leads -- How disappointing was last night. Scoring 5 runs before making an out and scoring nothing after that and watching the lead go bye bye in route to a 7-5 loss. That's like stepping outside your door and finding 20 bucks in your driveway and then getting a 30 dollar speeding ticket on your way to work.

 

3. TJ House -- House is in the House... I just wanted to say that. I already did a thing on TJ House. He's coming into Target Field with a 1-3 record and 4.13 ERA. Not spectacular... not bad. If the Twins remember to bring their bats... They should be OK.

 

4. Ricky Nolasco -- Start #2 in the return of Nolasco is tonight. Start #1 in the return of Nolasco didn't go so well. But that was against a Kansas City Team that is in a groove. 6 Innings and 5 Runs Allowed will have to be improved upon. He's healthy now... I think it's ok to expect improvement.

 

5. Relationships -- Both my sons have girlfriends and not once have they asked my advice. After all... I've been married for 24 years. And prior to getting married... I was active on the market. Yet... Not once... have they come to me for advice. It's probably a good thing... because I asked my father for advice once in my teens. He said "Relationships are like Garage Sales... They look good from the street until you get closer and you find out there is nothing here that you need".

And yes, I'm live in Mpls right now, on the banks of the Mississippi, thinking about renting one of those nice bikes, or whatever they are called.

I'm desperately trying to stay interested in the Twins this year.  I gotta say, it's not easy.  Last night was one more nail in the coffin.  Let's see what tonight brings.  God knows I stuck through last year (not to mention the 1978-1984 debacle), you'd think I could make it another 5 weeks.

I want to add an "Amen Brother" to big dog's comment. I decided on the drive home tonight (I work early) that I would not be partaking of the Twins' next two games, and Lord knows I've been a loyal follower for a long time. I need a mental health break from watching. I realized last night I still care, I was angry about how the game went down and deeply disappointed (I am trying to keep it clean!) in the performance of my favorite team. Much of the young talent that will represent the club in the near future is here (some isn't) and I would love to see some guys play better than they have to date and beat some good teams.

 

I know I'll check the box score at some point and I expect to comment on a couple other topics, but I plan to actively ignore the games tonight and tomorrow afternoon. I hope it improves my attitude about well, everything!

Actually, I took a two-year hiatus from the Twins. In May 2012 I had enough. Stopped cold turkey. Read the box scores the next day. Didn't see Dozier and Arcia play in real life until this season.

 

I think 2014 has been a better year than the previous bummers because there are some sparks of life here and there. Santana, Vargas, Gibson, Hughes, Dozier, Escobar, Arcia, Perkins, Fien, Mauer.

 

Too bad about Sano and Buxton, of course. Like that old saying, if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.

Why is Jordan Schafer starting every day in the outfield? I'd much rather see Parmelee out there.

Next season we should get a semi-competent outfielder in free agency. Arcia has a spot, Buxton will be coming late 2015, and then Parmelee and a free agent can fill the gaps in the outfield.

Wow, I was going to write how last night's game was the most disappointing of the season, and pretty much everyone else beat me to it. Like others, I'm going to take a little mental break, but will check in to perhaps get a laugh or three and maybe see a return of the Rally Rhino and Rally Bunny.
