DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I put $30 on the Twins to win the World series at 180:1 odds.
kab21 Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Extraordinarily awesome. You can kiss your money goodbye but that doesn't make the action any less awesome. And the money is the least important thing if you do hit on the longshot odds.
Tibs Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Nope! There are many worse things you could blow $30 on. Go Twins!
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Assuming $30 isn't your life savings , it's just a fun thing to do. As for whether you're an idiot, I don't know you well enough -- but Mark DeRosa is telling me to go ahead and vote yes.

While extremely unlikely, $30 to win $5,400 sounds like a reasonable risk/reward. Not an idiot at all.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Is it wrong I was ready with my answer before I even clicked on the thread to see why?
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 An idiot would take the Twins at 20:1 odds. Betting on them at 180:1 just makes you a homer.
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Much better odds than winning the Powerball. I know people who throw a lot more than $30 a year at that.
longstrangetrip Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Do I think you're an idiot? Hell no...bets like this are a lot of fun, and most people can afford $30. I hope you win! Do I think you're going to win? No comment...
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 If (or maybe I should say when) you win, I am assuming a significant portion of your winnings will be contributed to TwinsDaily.com to help it to continue to evolve into on of the premier webpages on the world wide web.
Guest USAFChief Guests Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I opened the thread only to ensure Rally Monkey was an option. Thread approved.

A portion (all?) of the potential winnings have already been committed to the "Get DeRosa out of Retirement Foundation".
Kyle Gibson Provisional Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I was in Vegas the first weekend in August in 2010 with few buddies. One was a Auburn alum. One day, after day-drinking by the MGM Grand pool, my buddy who went to Auburn went to the betting table and put $100 on Auburn winning the national title (they were unranked at the time if you recall). We all called him an idiot and tried to stop him. And then Auburn won the national title and he won like $4k.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Is it wrong I was ready with my answer before I even clicked on the thread to see why? This! Exactly this! But I voted no. As a moderator I feel I need to, ahem, 'set an example,' and can't really approve of calling anyone an idiot, whether there is any validity to it or not.
BigTrane Provisional Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Grrr... I remember the Rally Monkey, can't vote for that! If you'd had a 'Why not' button, I woulda gone for it. Might still... Anyway, central to the beauty of the game is that it's 162, and who gets hot at the right time. Don't forget injuries... I have a Barves fan crying in my beer right now. Even have an El Birdo buddy who put $5 on the Twins to win it all this year. Over the course of a long season, crazy stuff happens- even good stuff. Witness the 2012/2013 BoSox. Or, the 86/87 Twins...
BigTrane Provisional Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 $30 to win $5400? Yes please!Yep, but really liking your signature...
Thor Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 If you die thinking that was the worst money you ever spent then yes, otherwise no.
Joe A. Preusser Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Im guessing the odds on the Twins winning it in 91 after finishing dead last in 90 were also pretty poor.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 I also got $50 on the Wild at 58:1 to win the Stanley Cup a month or two ago, that one I think actually could pay off. Homer bets are the best
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 Im guessing the odds on the Twins winning it in 91 after finishing dead last in 90 were also pretty poor. Nolasco is our Jack Morris? Now all we need is DeRosa to be our Chilli Davis and we will be there!
DuluthFan Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Placing the bet is not idiotic. Writing that headline on the other hand.....
Gernzy Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Yep, but really liking your signature... Thanks! I had to double check what one I had in there.Sooo many good Ralph quotes...
steve Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 You can't win if you don't play. I have a distinct memory of being in Las Vegas, Nevada in December 1990 and not betting the Twins at 60 to 1 to win the World Series.
UCLA_YANKEE_COLA Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 If anyone gives you 10,000 to one on anything, you take it. If John Mellencamp ever wins an Oscar, I am going to be a very rich dude. And 180:1 is pretty good too. Approved.
EephusKnuckler Provisional Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 That $30 could have bought you a bottle of Jameson, which you'll need when the team settles back into their nice 3-years-and-counting rut
tarheeltwinsfan Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I'm pulling for you to win...but I'm not going to bet my $30. I'm going to save it so I can buy baseball cards of Spann, Revere, Ramos, Cuddy, Hardy, Go Go Gomez, RA Dickey, Liriano, David Ortiz, Morneau, Balfour, Hunter, Crain, Garza, and Mike Redmond.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I'm going to spend mine on Captain America trading cards.
