  1. There isn't a major league gene, I'm sure. But there has to be something to having a father that is a world class athlete. My dad is a slightly overweight guy with an oversized personality who likes to have a couple of drinks and complain about the local sports teams. I grew up to be almost the exact same guy. So whether that is genes or "monkey see, monkey do" I guess in the end if all things are equal I'd much prefer the guy with a Major League Father (patent pending on the movie title). It's not like they said he has grit or some other meaningless player attribute.
  2. It's hard to do anything but scout the stat line with the minor leaguers. That's why this forum is pretty great, some people live closer to minor league cities and can inform those of us who don't while others are "connected" and can offer insights that we can't find elsewhere.
  3. Doesn't the 4.8 years represent how much younger he is than average? He's the youngest pitcher by a year, I believe.
  4. $15 for a kegstand? Not a terrible deal.
  5. Neither of them walk much but other than that I don't see much Oliva in his game. I love Arcia but there are some real concerns. He's very hot right now but the all or nothing approach doesn't work for most players. Unless he starts hitting .300-.320 he needs to find some patience. Yeeeeahhh. Just a little patience.
  6. There is no reason not to give him another season to see if he can improve. But at this point he looks like a pretty bad baseball player. Bad routes in the OF, bad AB's. At least he now throws it to the cut off guy sometimes.
  7. When was the last time a 30 something setup man was traded for anything that mattered?
  8. I don't even know what I'm having for dinner tonight. I have no clue what this weird franchise will do in 3 months.
  9. And 180:1 is pretty good too. Approved.
  10. Teams waste good pitching performances all the time. From real aces and perceived aces and non-aces. Perpetrated by Mariano Rivera and by Mike Trombley. It happens. Hopefully Hughes pitches well today, the young guys keep hitting and we can all move on. That's the beauty of baseball and exactly why I love it more than football. Tomorrow you can make everyone forget. The Twins could very well lose 95 games again this year. But hey, maybe they won't. This game says next to nothing about it either way.
  11. I don't understand the deal but if this is the Twins worst personnel move of 2014 let's call it a win. He's turrble.
  12. I was prepared to be frustrated by Gibson starting in AAA. This is good news, finally.
  13. Like everyone, I have high hopes. I think the return of the curve is a good sign and the move from Yankeee Stadium to Target Field could help tremendously. But I love the signing whether it works out or not. It's the kind of gamble I'm happy to see the Twins make. A potentially high impact starter on a team that hasn't had more than 2 or 3 high impact starters in the last 15 or 20 years. If he works out and we can catch a break with Gibson & Meyer we could have 3 or 4 non-embarrassing starters by the end of the season.
  14. It is crazy that he is only a month older than Kyle Gibson. That makes it hard to just write him off. Hopefully he can make it through waivers and land in Rochester. I wouldn't hold my breath on him turning it around but it's not impossible to envision him in St. Louis starting a playoff games in 2 years.
  15. I don't think that's the case at all. Liriano & Santana, the only two aces the Twins have had in 20 years, both started in the bullpen. I would imagine most fans that post here understand that it can be a good way to bring along a young pitcher.
  16. On May : Well that's not encouraging.
  17. I'm with mike, I don't share the optimism either. I don't see any reason at all to not have Gibson, Pinto, Hicks, Arcia & Parmalee in the lineup everyday from opening day. Give them quality games against major league hitters and pitchers. Everything they do should be focused entirely on having these guys, and the next wave of youth, ready to win in 2015 and beyond. Starting Suzuki, Presley and Diamond, even if they were any good, doesn't do that.
  18. Thanks, it felt like a no brainer glad you guys confirmed. I think my old Twins Gomez jersey/t-shirt might have been unfairly influencing me.
  19. This stings. His debut was going to be a real highlight of (what is likely) another down season. Not a total disaster, he's young and it probably doesn't really matter in the long run. But it still really makes me want to break the swear word rule on TD. Darn flipping crappy news.
  20. I'm struggling with a keeper. Would you keep Gomez for a 12th round pick or Segura for a 24th round pick. Leaning Segura since typically your 24th rounder is a total flyer. 10 team league, snake draft.
  21. In all the leagues I've played in a player will never lose eligibility mid-season, so Mauer would be C eligible until next season. I've played mostly in ESPN & Yahoo.
  22. Mike Trout is to fantasy baseball as Byron Buxton is to top 100 prospect lists. Both are easy, unanimous #1 picks. Best pitcher : Clayton Kershaw with Yu Darvish next. Though I'm really excited to draft Andrew Cashner in the 12th round and get 4th round value. (Wait, are any of you guys in my league? If yes, forget I wrote that.) Biggest risk : Robinson Cano is a top 10 player in most projections. Part of that is position scarcity and part of that is he's a really good hitter. But I think Safeco saps some of that power and he's a 20 HR guy instead of a 27 HR guy. And that Seattle lineup is pretty questionable, giving him fewer RBI/run scoring opportunites. Best value : Cashner, Brandon Belt, Chase Headley Rookie : Well, I hope Miguel Sano. Otherwise I'd say Boegarts could be Manny Machado 2.0 this year (lazy comp, I know) or Oscar Tavares. Not quite a rookie but Christian Yelich too, he's very young but could be sneaky good.
  23. I would be interested if there is still an opening!
  24. Seeing him last year and reading some scouting reports makes it pretty clear that Josmil Pinto is 10 times the defensive catcher that Matt LeCroy was. LeCroy literally made his manager cry because his defense was so bad. Seriously. I'm laughing as I type this. His defense was so bad his manager, a hall of fame bad ass, actually cried.
  25. I'll always *like* Puckett more. Mostly because when I watched Kirby I was 12 and he was tied with my parents and the Playboy under my bed as the most important things in the world. Now I'm 37 and I worry about global warming and my 401K. In terms of actual value it's pretty close. I'd still take Kirby but that's not an argument from logic, just one from me and Miss July 1986.
