  1. In 1980's movie terms, you just invited John Bender to Brian Johnson's party. Meant with the utmost respect to TD, BYTO, Mr. Bender and Mr. Johnson.
  2. So you support the idea that a manager should blindly pitch his best reliever in the 9th inning regardless of earlier, higher leverage situations? That's some sound logic there buddy. It's cool how you're a douche both here and on BYTO though. The internet needs less logical thinkers.
  3. I think the actual effect any manager has on W/L's is so freaking miniscule that the Twins would win or lose the same amount of games if it were Gardy, Connie Mack, Earl Weaver or Trey Hillman. The one thing I'd change, as mentioned above, is a nearly universal problem and that's pitching to the save rule. Use your best relievers in the highest leverage situations. It's so simple it's like telling someone not to open their doors and windows when you turn on you heat in the winter but managers just don't get it.
  4. Like you said Mike, it's not on Ryan or on Smith. Scouts drive the draft, GM's have much less input than most would believe. And you say you have no problem with the Carroll signing but would've been okay with Dozier too. I'm not sure you really said anything.
  5. ROY will be tough in the AL but I think Parmalee is in for a nice Doug Mientkiewicz season (like his 02 or 03). I think Willingham will learn a couple of magic tricks before the season starts so that he can bring that Cuddyer intangible to the lockerroom. Likely upping his WAR from about 2-2.5 to 3 or more.
  6. Yeah, getting anyone through the Rule V that makes any difference is so rare I just completely ignore it.
  7. Close enough! Just pick up your prize at the next game you attend.
  8. Gary Gaetti is the only one to play Splinter. I also have a trivia question for you guys to answer. Only several times in Twins history has THIS happened. What is THIS? Winner will get the RF foul pole from Target Field.
  9. Terribly story but seems out of place on a Twins message board. This guys dad owned the team 30 years ago. Also : Keith Atherton has a cousin who pooped in someones mailbox. Allan Anderson's daughter stole a car. (both unverified)
  10. Every team on this list would trade their RF for Choo. In a heartbeat.
  11. Well, using that logic he won't sign anywhere since he hasn't signed anywhere yet.
  12. I, for one, was hoping this would end with... "I don't really like my son."
  13. The wind patterns downtown are crazy. I work on 6th & Nicollet and it will be a 20 mph wind on 6th but when I get home it's a light breeze. I like the approach of the weather research but it seems to me it would need to reference downtown wind, which might not be possible.
  14. Imagine if Nick Punto had an identical twin that could catch (and still hit poorly). Gardy's head would explode.
  15. It becomes a bigger deal when that rate dips to 4.7 K/9 like it did last year.
  16. I think people remember JJ Hardy as having been an offensive force as a Twin yet he hit .268/.320/.394. I liked his defense but his bat was nothing special here. Over the last two seasons Carroll has hit .290/.368/.344, again nothing incredible but at least he can get on base. Not saying we should've traded Hardy for Hoey. That was still stupid. But the JJ Hardy glory days were pretty bland.
  17. I love this time of year because you can dream that all of the "ifs" work out in your favor. But realistically, the "ifs" don't all fall in your favor. If you have pocket 6-10 you can hope the flop is 7-8-9 but it probably won't be. I'm optimistic too, there is reason to believe this team could be a poor man's 2010 team and they won 94 games. But I'm not betting on it.
