I wasn't much of a Walker believer, but I'm surprised. I don't like to lose players the team doesn't have to lose.

 

However this move shows real decisiveness by the new front office. They must have already decided that Walker had zero to little chance of helping the team and decided there was no need to draw out the inevitable. Even if he proves Falvey and company wrong down the road, I'm happy that the new leadership isn't wishy-washy.

Like ABW I'm bittersweet about this. However, there didn't seem to be a future here and I'm not sure one could have received much in a swap. It's good for him though and I hope he can find some success in MIL.

Perhaps a signal that defense will count? That said I wish the Twins had invested a few of those very precious 59 wins in getting a look at him. Lord knows we had the book on Robbie G. And whichever Shaefer we had that week? I am glad he is going to get a shot somewhere else. I always thought it would be pretty disappointing to be a Walker type guy, stuck in the minors. Not wanted, and not traded! Ugh! I know there is a Plouffe thread, but there is a correlation. Players you can't use, won't use, or have a plethora of, but won't trade or waive them. NThis is how you end up with a 40 man roster like we have had for quite awhile.

The swap would have to involve players not on the other team's 40-man roster too, if the object is to free up a spot. That's the problem when a prospect gets older: his value drops if he's marginal because he has to count as one of 40 guys you can protect. Apparently* no other team except the Brewers had room to add a guy without giving one right back to the Twins - at least, no one we wanted. So there was no bargaining power for the Twins.

And for all we know the Brewers could still take him off the 40-man later and try to sneak him through waivers, we see that kind of gamesmanship happen all the time.

Wow, just shows what the new management thought of Walker compared to the other OF prospects in the system.  Little surprised they couldn't wrangle up an A ball arm or bat for him but best of luck to him in Milwaukee wonder where they're gonna put him as LF is taken by Braun currently and there is no DH to stash him.

 

Interesting to see him on the same squad as the guy he's often comped to in Chris Carter, don't know if the two can occupy the same lineup together.

I admire the change in attitude toward marginal players. Ryan would hold on to a guy forever--three (or four if permissible). Then he would (relunctantly) add the player to the 25-man roster, just to have one last look (for a few weeks), then he would waive him hoping he would "slide through" and then outright him to Rochester. This new team makes a decision of "prospect" or "suspect" and if negative--just cuts bait.

Seems like ABW was removed from the 40 for Palka. I thought there were some players left on the 25/40 who could have made space to keep both Palka and ABW. However I'm fine with the move. I hope ABW gets a good shot in Milwaukee and takes advantage of it.

I've been a big fan, but 25 at AAA and 202 Ks make me think that the Brew Crew got Rob Deer 2.0. 

 

Like the guy though. I hope the new admin will be more proactive in cutting the losses on prospects by trading at peak value.

 

Have to say, they are off to a good start with reducing redundancies in th organization, even if there is nothing coming back at this point.

 

One thing that gives me pause is that Walker has never repeated a level, yet mashed at league leading levels - would the Ks have dropped as he became more attuned to the pitching? Well, Milwaukee will find out....

I think it's that and they've got a lot of other things to look at.  Spending a lot of time on a trade for Walker, to me, doesn't seem like good time usage.
