And Farmer is redundant on a team with Castro and Gordon. This roster needs work.

I do not get WPA and never will Joey Gallo was 0 - 3 with two Ks but gets credit because he walked. He is now on an 0 - 23 streak and watching his BA plummet back to his 160 level. Give me a break, he added nothing to win probability. The fact is, we are settling for mediocrity and making excuses. No matter what it means, get Julien and anyone else that can make contact with the ball into this lineup.

Twins 3, Guardians 4: Klutzy in Cleveland
mikelink45 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Solano has a -0.2 WAR and that has to be from his defense. There are enough players to cover 1B that we do not need him out there. His bat is not that valuable. If we want someone with limited defense and good offense - Julien is waiting for the call. But Solano has more errors than are recorded and just is not worth a place on the 26. -
I keep looking at Julien and his 913 OPS and wonder if there isn't someway to get that bat going in Minneapolis.

I saw a put Gallo in LF note above, but has anyone looked at Gallo's numbers lately? He is down to 206 and seems in free fall. His concentrated power output gives everyone a rosy picture of his potential, but he is still the same old Gallo. Larnach is a mess, I am so disappointed. His plate approach looks terrible - wishing to walk is not a good approach. But add them to Correa's slow start, Miranda's lack of production, Vasquez coming down to earth, Taylor just being who he is; Castri 189 and Gordon 161 means the lineup just stinks everywhere we have to hope for warm weather and hot bats. But saying that Farmer coming back will be a plus is funny when he is batting 226. The team is batting 228. So which problem do we address first?

Minnesota Nice versus the Chicago Satans and we get Colome versus Pagan. Our team was so inspired they even attempted to take third with our catcher, the slowest man in a slow lineup - the temptations are just so hard to resist. We load the bases and because we seldom bunt, we hit two short infield balls that turn in to force outs at home. Then to end the misery a good old K. Man the way that devil works is so complicated.

It will be interesting to see the contrast in styles. You are right about Miranda, but Larnach seems lost. Then we have Correa still inconsistent and Joey Gallo's batting average is plummeting. We need some kind of spark for the offense. Can Kiriloff make a difference?

I have been a Larnach fan but he looked really lost I was really disappointed. He's becoming yet a hacker, he's got enough power. He doesn't have to go crazy with his swings. It's time for some contact, especially in the situations where he was yesterday.

Week in Review: Slaying Demons and Smacking Dingers
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The option year for Kiriloff does not matter - if he is as good as projected he should be here and he should be used. I do not believe in delaying promotions or wasting the youth of potentially really good players.- 17 replies

Nick Gordon Deserves Another Chance
mikelink45 replied to Adam Friedman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Baseball has never been a place where emotions control cuts and rosters. We need the best players. We got rid of Killebrew and he finished with KC, Kaat was let go because Griffith thought he was done (he wasn't) and he went to the White Sox. Cutting a player is a necessity when you have better option. Gordon has been given a good chance and last year he did well, but that should not be the argument for keeping him. I would drop Castro then Gordon for Farmer and AK. Then comes Lewis a month or two away and a new problem arises, just as our shuffling of pitchers has caused us to use the DFA and IL and any other method at our disposal. -
I always look at the prospects list and always hope for a day where everyone gets a hit. Close today.

Did we extend the wrong man? Wow has Lopez looked bad since his contract. I know the article says he kept pounding the strike zone. They do that in batting practice too. Now that the bats are going Lopez need to return to what he did earlier. Yes we can bring Kiriloff up. Castro, Solano, Gordon are all expendable if a better player is ready to take the field. I did enjoy the game, but the last inning should have been the Royals.

Nice take - I loved the connection with our MN tradition. I noticed on the game last night how much the announcers praised Kepler as the best RF we have ever had and how great his defense is. Maybe that is our way of making sure he knows he was loved when he goes elsewhere. The biggest factor for the Twins is his contract number. He was being paid with the thoughts he would improve, but he hasn't and I do not think that they will want to pay him above his value.

What Can Twins Expect From Alex Kirilloff?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Miranda has found his groove with the two homers and now a 240 BA. Now if Kiriloff can provide another bat (and just as important give us some defense at 1B) it will really be exciting.- 46 replies

Twins-Royals Preview: Let's Get Some Wins
mikelink45 replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is interesting that you ask that. I am listening to Jim Kaat's book - Good as Gold - and in it he made two fascinating statements - 1965 is the last series in which every starting pitcher threw a complete game Harmon Killebrew hit a key, game winning HR for a key game in the extra innings, but we did not keep track of walk off hits - we did not even have the phrase in those days. In a July 11, 1965 game that was a come from behind 6 - 5 game against the Yankees. Tovar had another extra inning hit. He said Killebrew must have fouled off 5 -6 pitches, but we did not count them in those days. This is a paraphrasing of Kaat's words.- 34 replies

Takeaways from the Twins-Yankees series
mikelink45 replied to Melissa Berman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nice summary - no debates here. My take-aways are that Ober needs to have the Maeda spot and Maeda needs to get healthy and start in the BP. Second, for now my disgust with the Gallo signing is lost in the destroyed files section of my office. Third, I thought we had a chance for a sweep when we scored 6 runs in game three, but I blame management. Maeda should have been pulled quickly. I also question why we would bench our best players when playing the Yankees.- 31 replies
