  1. Walker up - Rodriguez up! Please. Caratini, Martin, Roden - any of them down. Five of the top six in the draft are now playing in the majors - guess which one has not had a mlb experience? Hint WJ.
  2. Please go back to listing pitch and hitting stats under the score. The only question I have is - why do we still have Martin, Gray, Roden, Caratini in the lineup when we have Wallner, Mendez, and Walker in AAA?
  3. Love to see the fan excitement. Let's hope we regain 500 (what other year would that be such a good thing). Once again WPA leaves me cold - Ober, Lewis, Lee are the top three for me no matter what that worthless stat says. Give me the thumbs down, but give these three credit. And once again I question why the Royals ever go to their worthless BP. Lets the starters go as long as possible.
  4. I posted something similar in one of my comments. All I can say is Amen!
  5. Was this column intended to tweak the readers and get responses like this? No - if I remember right we have a highly rated minor league - let's use it.
  6. Wow - there is offense in the Twins system - too bad we won't bring it to Minneapolis. And a request - I really like it when you list home runs and multi-hit games at the beginning of the summaries.
  7. Wow does this loss feel bad - 8 - 9 after the break and getting ready for Atlanta and Phillie! Joe Ryan needs a week off - send him to Cancun. When Randy Dobnak looks like a star pitcher you know you are bad. Sorry Randy I am delighted to see you succeeding, but... Now as for the Offense - thanks Lewis and Bell for giving us something. Roden is not the answer - yes I am repeating and repeating myself. 214 BA 514 OPS is not good enough that is 49 OPS+ And Martin is not the answer nor is Gray, Kriedler or Caratini. I am not sure they would be the answer but Culpepper, Jenkins, Gonzales, Wallner, Mendez could be. Let's find out. And, as for the improved BP. Adams 5.67 era, Taylor Rogers 5.09 era, are not the answers. And I wait to see if Kremer can turn some corner.
  8. I read these prospect essays and all I can say is - I HOPE SO! But we have seen so many who were going to be our saviors - Lee, Larnach, Lewis right on the team right now. All our number one draft picks over the years. MLB wears them down and some anwer the question, some fail, some are just OK. So, I wait and see, and like you hope!
  9. I love your essays, but this is a stretch. His ERA is worse than Matthews. It is worse than all our starting pitchers. He fills a spot, but unless he really turns things around we will be wondering why we got him. Even if he gets back to his career ERA it is 4.37. What he brings is an arm. We will see if it is a good arm.
  10. Interesting list - only one starter and BP was our problem and SP was our strength. Good column.
  11. I always enjoy these summaries. You start out that we are 3 -3 this week. We are 56 - 57. We flirt with 500 going just above just below - it is our identity. As fans we always over rate our team and players. I know we are thinking playoffs and the old adage that any team can get hot holds promise if we get in. But the juggernauts are not going to be afraid of this team. It is a fun team and I accept that - but my overall expectations are quite low. Adding Kremer to the rotation does nothing for me. His era ERA 6.22 is worse than Zebby 5.21 so Matthews goes down? Put one of them in the Pen. Trade is the trading deadline and my expectations are also quite low. I hope they surprise me.
  12. I do not understand WPA and this is one of those confusing days. How can Rojas not be in the bottom three? Second thought - Seattle like KC pulled their starter when he was doing great only to go to lesser arms in the BP. Is there a new unwritten rule that Starting pitchers have to be replaced with BP arms near the end of the game? I loved Freeland going 9 for the Rockies yesterday. It is just a game and we should be happy for the way the team battled back to tie. This is a 500 team - keep that in mind as we win a couple lose a couple. That is who we are.
  13. I am not sure that the team is willing to dip into its prospect pool. I have been one of Roden's biggest detractors and I have no idea why Gray is on the roster. At least put a CF on the team - Fedko did not get a Roden chance and can play the field and is on the roster. Jenkins is the obvious call up and has earned the chance. Mendez is looking good - we do not need a trade to give these players a chance. I expect Fedko will not be in MLB for long so I am not equating him with Jenkins. I also think Wallner has earned another chance. And I am not sure that Martin should block any of them.
  14. Diaw should be in demand - we now have drafted two catchers that seem to have eveyone excited so we can trade one catcher prospect.
  15. Clemens meaningful hits makes him number one for the month to me.
  16. More fun speculation as the Dodgers wrap up the rotation derby. Twins fans can salivate over options and dream on - but... The trade proposal looks fine but would it look that good to the Reds and who would beat them out? And why would Cincinnati trade him?
  17. I am not as worried about Buxton as I am the team reluctance to bring up its prospects to fill the roles. Alan Roden is up because we traded for him and he is hitting above his career mlb record - but that means his 205 BA is a high water mark - that is not enough. And they are giving him a nice set of starts unlike what they did with Fedko. But don't misunderstand I am not lobbying for Fedko. While I would not mind Wallner is hitting the cover off the ball and has good MLB history. Gonzales, Rodriguez and Jenkins are highly rated but we won't know what to expect until we give them a chance. But Roden has a -0.7 career WAR and is hitting a career 194 in 175 ABs with a 542 OPS which is a 51 OPS+ 269 OBP - he is slightly better this year 289 - a career 2 HR and this year his Slug is 205 down from a career 274 which is also terrible.
  18. I don't agree, but I like the creative thoughts and the ability to get all of us to think and react. For me Rojas either starts or he is available whenever a starter - any starter - faulters in the early innings. I am not concerned about Prielipp - he had an IL stint to rest. I am concerned for Ryan who seems to be faltering and maybe needs a day off. Put Kremer in the pen for now, but have him, like Rojas ready to come in as starters struggle. Save the BP by having Rojas and Kremer extend the starters innings. Another commenter talked about Morris, Gomez, Minter being able to close games, but they cannot close all the games. Final thought - I watched Cameron shut us down for 8 innings (KC) and then we blasted the RP. Why didn't he go 9 - is there a new rule in MLB against complete games? Thus, I say going forward push our starters as long as they are going well and pull them quickly if they are not doing well and use Rojas and Kremer to fill out their start.
  19. I am just glad they are doing something. This is what we all ask for. They are not short on OF prospects so this is trading from a strength. Is Kremer good? I can't judge until we see how the Twins work with him and what he produces for us. Our current rotation is working, but there is no arm in the minors that can come in if we have another emergency.
  20. I suspect a lot of people like me have become real Kody Clemens fans - I looked at BR and checked his career stats. He has really found something here in MN. I hope he can keep it up.
  21. Is Minter with us more than the rest of the season? If so it is a great deal, if not it is okay.
  22. I suspect other teams are looking at the Ryan record this year and in past years after the all-star game. His second half fade does not make him look like a smart pickup for a team wanting to boost their end of the year record.
