  1. fascinating - I would have preferred Culpepper coming up, but glad to see Lewis going down with Wallner. Topa was a real disappointment, but there are a few more RP that can go as well. Arci did earn the promotion.
  2. Jeffers injury will give us a chance to see next years catcher tandem of Caratini and Jackson I would think. Hope they pass the audition.
  3. No - Boras still knows the value of a catcher and the Twins probably are not going to offer a Mauer contract.
  4. Didn't Ryan and Prielipp get Ober's memo - if you are going to win with this team it has to be a shutout.
  5. We have plenty of underwhelming players - keep making changes until we have the best available on the roster.
  6. All the comments cover as much as you need for such a poor game, so I want to pose a different question - has ABS hurt SWR? If he is not injured, I do not understand what is going on except that ABS has shrunk the strike zone for a pitcher who works around the edges. Last year I did not understand what happened to Ober and I am really pleased with his work this year. He has figured out his pitches and the zone - what can be done to bring SWR back? Other other side Lewis and Wallner certainly have not adjusted to the small zone - losing his position to Grey says all that is needed for Royce - when does someone take Wallner's position?
  7. I love it and as an old guy I still prefer the baseball of the last half of the last century. It was so good to see a Warren Spahn go a full game or more, to watch Nolan Ryan throwing his fastball for nine instead of 5. Relief pitchers in that era were nice - Hoyt Wilhelm, Don MacMahon, etc, but the rest of the BP was just what it is now - guys not good enough for the rotation who could be fillers if needed, but were not counted on for 40% of innings during the year. Thank you Ober for an old-fashioned ball game.
  8. This is getting silly. I am not bashing him. But look at his baseball Reference page. I hope he does well. But his era is 4.91 in AAA and 3.50 in AA - he may have talent but he is not at a level that I want from a top 20 prospect yet.
  9. How great to go back in time and see actual pitching. Does anyone remember Stu Miller - slow and slower?
  10. As much as all of us hoped he would reach back to the initial success the time is passing and the results are dismal. Not sure a few days off is sufficient. If someone comes along who can produce the team has to move on.
  11. I was good until Amick came up - I do not anticipate him pushing for a Twins starting job.
  12. It is true he should be 3 in my old way of seeing things. Now they are changing and not always right. Tom Kelly used to talk about number nine being the second lead off man.
  13. Sorry - I knew Matt Blair - Viking and his name came out of my memories. I will edit it.
  14. All I can say is that when a team has such a bad bullpen TD has to really reach for a good story. Nice try.
  15. With our current MLB 1B I would say let's see what he can do.
  16. I will always remember Mark Belanger on Earl Weaver's Orioles - he could vacuum up every ball, but could not hit. Weaver did have the Robinsons, Boog Powell and others to hit, but he recognized the extreme importance of a great fielder at SS and paired with Davey Johnson his keystone was solid and Paul Blair could field like Buxton.
  17. So true - but Banks had three other HOF teammates - Billy Williams, Ferguson Jenkins and Ron Santo. In the pre-expansion period competition was really strong and even good teams had difficulty winning.
  18. I understand why Lewis is batting ninth, but with Buxton knocking the ball out of the park it would be nice to have someone on base and Lewis hitting just ahead of him is wasting his opportunities.
  19. It is the new max effort - 100 mph requirement that I see as part of the problem. But we are not the only team with that problem. https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=major+league+pitchers+on+injury+list&mid=E35A160C87302FCADC13E35A160C87302FCADC13&churl=https%3a%2f%2fwww.youtube.com%2fchannel%2fUCdNunVgO9a5AVfu4pdCgNxQ&FORM=VIRE And then there are the Astros - It is still early and to have Skubal, Fried, Cole, Rodon, Lopez, Ragans and so many more missing.
  20. I know we call out Bell, Wallner, Lewis for not hitting and it is frustrating to have Buxton at leadoff with no one on base from the bottom of the lineup, But right now they are not the only issue - we have Outman (121) who cannot pinch hit, Clemens batting 184, Kriedler 214 and Caratini 200. No bench, and a lot of louse hitters. Love what Buxton did, but when Keaschall at 232 is the fourth best bat in the lineup we need to win some more 2 - 1 games, but then there is the rotation!
  21. It is time for the team to reset based on the reality it faces - Abel extending his IL, Taj down, Lopez out, SWR struggling, Culpepper a learning rookie. At least we can start with Ryan - No question - Zebby. How about giving Morris a start, we keep Culpepper going. Now I struggle - SWR does not seem like he deserves to continue, but there is no choice. Remember when SP was our strength? RP sure isn't. Our fielding isn't and 1/2 out starting lineup isn't. Wow - doesn't leave much.
