    Looking at the careers of past winners I am not sure how much honor this award presents! But then all honors are good honors.

    I am one of those old timers who just cannot stomach the Ks. Yes we create laboratory fastball pitchers and watch them limited to five innings and twice a career TJ surgery and yes first MN and now Atlanta set HR season records, but if the only pleasure I get from BB is the HR then let's change the format and have a HR derby instead of a game for each team meeting. Look at this list of players with more HRs than Ks!  Johnny Mize hit 51 and still only struck out 42 times. There are some great names on this list and people might be surprised by Barry Bonds being there - in 2004 - 45 - 41. Good hitters get HRs without being a Joey Gallo bag of whiffs. On the other side do the new K records for pitchers really mean anything when everyone is swinging from their heals? Nolan Ryan's record really stands out and even today no one can come close. Bob Feller won 266 games and had 2,581 strikeouts in 3827 innings while losing four years to military service. 1941 - Feller 25 - 13 had 260 strickeouts and 3.15 ERA. Only three hitters struck out more than 100 times - Dolph Camilli 115, Jimmy Fox (58 hrs) 103 times, and Vince Dimaggion 100. This year we have had 161 batters strikeout 100 or more times so far! So how do we compare pitchers and their K rates with pitchers in other eras?

    The key to the improvement has been Gallo and Buxton's absences. The playoffs are notoriously tough on batters, contact is needed.

    Thanks for this update. Interesting group, but not one that looks like it is filled with future Twins except Rosario and Cossetti have both looked really good this year.

    Let me take an optimistic view. With the multiple rounds in the playoffs they might need five starters if they are going all the way. Pitching an Ace three times in the WS has worked for decades, but now we add the wildcards and division series and we do not want to burn out the SP. Which one do we hold in reserve?

    I did expect Walker Jenkins to be higher. But thanks for the insights.

    I can believe that Gray has to wonder why they don't want to win a game for him. It is hard to believe but I have sympathy for a pitcher who has given us so much and got such poor results from the team.

    I know that the team has to be thinking about the future and does not want to bring Lee to the majors to start the clock ticking, but without that restriction he would have been a better call up than Larnach when Lewis and Correa went down.

    It is hard for a team to not play their big ticket guys, but from a fans standpoint contracts really do not matter. Production does. Unless Buxton finds one of those short explosive streaks with the bat he is more liability than asset. I like what we have now if Lewis can come back and Correa can regain some comfort.

    If they keep Kuechel I cannot see them adding Paddock. For me it is one or the other.

    We see something different. Stewart looks good.     Paddock does not look like the answer for the Twins BP. Right now I do not see any rehabbers helping the team except Stewart. Keep the chemistry. If Lewis is down then things change, but Larnach is not a good substitute for Lewis. We need a 3B.

    This was a good game, but all I can think about is Lewis. He has been the key to the winning ways and team spirit. His bat is definitely essential to the playoffs, but so is his spirit and enthusiasm.

    I have no idea. Somehow Stevenson does not seem a lock the way the comments make it seen. I like versatility, but think it might be Buxton taking Stevenson's spot.

    Not sure that this game proved anything except Lewis is proving to be even more than we had hoped for. Potential superstar status ahead if this keeps up. Kiriloff getting hot would really push us forward in the playoffs. Correa's injury is a real and painful injury and this is a bad time for it to flare up. Finally Kuechel is not our BP solution. Nor is he really ready for a rotation place in the playoffs. He can get away with his mix on occasion, but it is not something we can count on.

    Give him a 10 day IL, bring someone else up and let him recover. I do not think one or two days makes a difference. His injury gives a lot of pain and it is amazing he has done as well as he has this year.

    The prospect list looks like it will have a major rearrangement when you next do it. Emmanuel Rodriguez stock has slipped. What is the condition of Charlie Soto? Mercedes has a big drop coming. Headrick and Balazovic are either passing the prospect appearances of dropping because of lack of production. Schobel needs a bounce - the promotion exposed him. Prielipp looks like he could drop and Severino and Rosario are on the rise. Who are the players in the next ten that might be pushing into the top ranks?

    I took this from a quote that was on TD last week. But no matter what the quote should be he has made adjustments and I am delighted.

    Nice game - Gray stepped up today and remains the staff Ace. Julien showed us why he should not be PH for and Wallner has turned a real corner after realizing he needs more contact with the ball and less Ks. Add in Lewis and hope Kiriloff gets hot and we have a wonderful foundation for the playoffs and the future.

    I still worry about the substitution of lesser players early in the game. RP keep coming in, the left are becomes the right arm. I am not convinced that we are better off with Rocco's strategy.

    Sorry the Saints can't get playoff experience. But good season. Do any of the players get to Minneapolis? I do not like the 2 extra player limit that we not have.

    Bound to lose some so we can move on except for a few lessons - Lopez may be our ace, but he has games like this where he is still wobbly - do it now and not in the playoffs. This is the first time I have seen criticism of Lewis in the field. Was it just a bad day or a sign of the future? Pinch hitting for Julien early makes no sense. Not pinch hitting for Vasquez makes no sense. Winder had pitched two days earlier. It was too soon to go back to him.

    I know there is a hope for Buxton, but my concern is that we might disrupt the quality of the current lineup. If they put Buxton in the top half of the lineup I think it might be a mistake. I like Byron, but right now this team is really producting.

    Of course the key is that others have to get on base first and we have finally learned that hits and walks count. I love that Wallner made that adjustment and we are really looking good right now.
