I remember the Shannon Stewart year - what an exciting time - and he did pull the entire team up with his play. I don't think he can get enough credit. For this year I think Lewis has to have a quick call up. Julien, Kiriloff, and Lewis could combine to be the catalyst. Big Swings, big exit velocities are not the answer so let's try a little more of the old traditional baseball. I worry about Correa. How long was it after Donaldson signing that he started getting injured? The big splashy contracts are going to bite a lot of teams. Look how Story has performed for Boston and now he is out again. Trea Turner and on and on. Let's hope Farmer or Lewis plugs the hole as SS and helps carry us forward. The final frustration is Miranda who has really lost his way.

Acrtually the Milwaukee Braves - 57 used Don McMahon as their closer 32 times! And they had Spahn, Burdette and Buhl

I have to follow up the last posting - is this what we have saved Duran for? I do not understand - I am too old school. I like my best to be used when the game is close.

SWR has really disappointed and should drop on the prospect lists. Not sure what is going on, it reminds me of Balazovic last year. So glad Cossetti was moved up. I do hope Wallner catches fire - Larnach is down three years in a row.

I agree completely. I think that we have seen them fall in love with the players that they acquire - wanting them to prove their genius. I look at the Twins players that were acquired year by year and until Gray and Ryan and Duran came along it is a head shaker. I have to include Maeda in the positive column too although his health means we only had the shortened year of Covid where he truly shined. Below is our acquisition list without the four in this paragraph 2018 Lance Lynn - 31 games Addison Read - 4,50 era in BP - 55 games 2019 Martin Perez - 28 games, 5.12 era (and now he shines in Texas 2020 Sergio Romo - 24 games, 4.05 era Homer Bailey - 2 games 2021 Alex Colome - 67 games 4.15 era Hansel Robles - 45 games 4.91 era J Happ - 19 starts, 6.77 era Matt Shoemaker - 11 starts, 8.06 era 2022 Dylan Bundy - 29 starts, 4.89 Chris Archer - 25 ga,es 4.56 era Emilio Pagan - 59 games 4.43 era Chris Paddack - 5 games 4.03 era - enjoying a well paid recovery time Tyler Mahle - 4 games 4.41 era - also enjoying a well paid recovery time

Giants 4, Twins 3: As Bad As It Gets?

one game over 500 - the worst first place team in baseball. I think our expectations were out of the Central and looking to win a playoff game or series. -
Giants 4, Twins 3: As Bad As It Gets?

Well it looks like Ryan will have Duran to back him up. Not sure why he didn't pitch today. But Lopez is starting to worry me just like he did the second half of last year. With all the young prospects no one the major league roster with the exception of Lewis. I'm really curious how the lineup will look tomorrow. But something's got to change. Last year. We at least made it to the All-Star game before fading -

Twins Minor League Week in Review (5/15-5/21)
mikelink45 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
My biggest take away is two players who need to move up = Lewis as soon as possible and Cossetti. Otherwise the prospects are not really shining. I love the format for this report. Thank you. -
I have to post this note from the PULSE - put out by the Athletic: The current standings produce the unbelievable visual: The entire AL East is better than the AL Central, with the caveat that Toronto (last place in the East) is tied in the standings with first-place Minnesota. A couple of facts: The AL East has a +218 combined run differential. The AL Central clocks in at -170.

As someone who started out as an usher the first year, I have been a lifelong Twins fan and I loved your post - you nailed it. I had a debate yesterday with another poster who pointed out the Twins total runs. I tried to make the point that big blow out games distorted the record - yesterday the score was right in line with the majority of our losses and it is not acceptable. The strikeouts are driving me crazy -Another post yesterday said 38% of Gallo's hits are HRS. So what - he hardly gets any hits. Larnach seems to be following that pattern except he is not hitting HRS. Give me the Piranha Twins - they were fun to watch and I believe this is supposed to be entertaining. Yesterdays big strategy of substituting batters as soon as the pitcher changed had some validity, but taking Julien and Kiriloff out did not.

Week in Review: Wasted Opportunities Out West
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I went away from the site and then had to come back. Adam Dunn and Dave Kingman were bad players but had some good seasons. Kingman was an all-star for the Mets in 1976 with a line of 238/286/508 - someone had to represent the Mets. In 1978 he hit 288/343/623 - much more of an all-star and again the next year 278/329/522 and those were his best years and better than Gall0 - you are right. But his lifetime was 236/302/478 - more Gallo like and for the most part I would not have wanted him on my team. Dunn was an all-star twice, once at age 22 249/400/454 and again age 32 when someone had to rep the White Sox. Would we really consider 204/333/468 and all-star? All star positions are often not good indications of value since every team had to be represented. His career 237/364/490 does look better than Gallo so I see your point. Gallo's 211/328/578 has a higher slugging pct, but in the past few years everyone does. The BR comps through age 28 are: Dave Kingman (920.5) - I guess I was on target there. Kyle Schwarber (915.5) - I can't see it Miguel Sanó (911.3)- we did not like him enough to keep him. Joc Pederson (909.7) - ??? Rob Deer (899.5) - Another player I could do without. Michael Conforto (886.8) Nick Swisher (886.0) Max Kepler (880.6) - wow - I believe we write about wanting to get rid of him every year.- 22 replies

Don't be Desperate with Royce Lewis
mikelink45 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My take is don't be hesitant - he has already lost two years, if he is succeeding give him the chance to blossom. Are the odds greater that he will be injured in MLB than he would playing in the minors and trying to prove himself? -
The total runs is a farce. They score big 10 - 11 runs in 5 games throws the stats out of whack. Take those 5 games out of our 47 and we drop to3.9 runs per game from 4.7. Scoring big is fun, but scoring consistently is essential and scoring in the clutch is even better.

Week in Review: Wasted Opportunities Out West
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
38% of Joey Gallo's career hits have been home runs and that's more than anyone else in MLB history! - Of course he is allergic to regular base hits. I like his power right now, but he is not an all-star - he is a Dave Kingman, Adam Dunn clone. Sticking with Jax and watching the team lose games is not admirable. Management needs to find ways for the team to win. The bases loaded situation is pathetic. The last one had Larnach K before the bases were loaded and then Gallo and Jeffers K with them loaded. Contact is all that is needed to give us a chance to score, a grand slam is not necessary. Correa needs to be lower in the lineup (Gallo too). And let's hope Jorge Lopez is not turning the wrong corner. Our BP is looking weaker and weaker.- 22 replies

Hopefully this is not a trend for Jorge Lopez - last year great start bad finish, the opposite of Correa who so far has had two bad starts - will he pick it up again to finish strong? But Ks - Larnach, Jeffers, Gallo - two with bases loaded. Great situational baseball. we did not need a HR, just a run. So frustrating. Kiriloff looks like the real deal and so far no injury!!!!!! Pablo had a wonderful start.

I agree that Varland would be an outstanding fifth starter, but he does not have the stuff to be a three or better.

Can someone explain to me why Sands is in the BP if we are never going to use him? I keep looking at his line and seeing 0 day after day. If we cannot use him bring up a different arm. Varland keeps us in the game, I am pleased for him. Never going to get above the #5 rotation spot, but he does well where he is. Now if Lopez can step up again it would be good, our rotation continues to look good if Pablo pitches well. All of us sag a bit as we watch Buxton in distress at 3rd. So glad we got Taylor, but hope Buxton is not down.
