Week in Review: Rock-Bottom Reset
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What a powerful statement this is! As people have been saying all year - it could be our hitting coaches that need to be changed.- 19 replies

I am beginning to think this is his name - everyone that writes an article uses this tag line. Maybe he is worse that his numbers suggest. He is just a good pitcher - not great. I am never bothered by the All-star snubs. It is a flashing thing to be named, but in the long run it does not mean much. Doran can use the rest.

We did not even think Castro would be on the team. It was a minor league signing and how much have we played him? I think he is a big surprise and Baldelli sure seems to like him. Vasquez is constantly in TD comments. Jeffers is surpassing him and he was expected to do much more. Everyone on TD should know by now I do not like Gallo and all the stats and comments will not change it. I did not like Dunn or Kingman either and they were better than Gallo.

I believe there will be a players only meeting before every game the rest of the season! One game with good bats, one game that Ober took charge of and another game where the pitchers suffered from the batteritis.

Can we restructure best to worst? Castro - who could have seen this? Steward - another surprise that saved the first half BP Tied Solano and Farmer - they have been very valuable to us. Taylor - he has done what we have wanted. At times his bat comes alive, but mostly he has covered from Buxton's absence in the OF Lopez - he has taken the mount regularly and given us satisfactory production even if below expectations. De Leon - the SSS looks really good. Correa - he can climb the list, but we have had a bad first half of production Vasquez - he can catch, but did he leave his bat behind? Gallo - two stretches of power with a prolonged period of swing and misses and his defense has not been what was promised.

The trade is not just based on Arraez and his historic season. It is also about Lopez and the expectations being better than the production.

Losing Lewis is a major loss. He has been fantastic. Big shoes for Miranda to fill. What is our rotation ranking now from 1 - 5? Is Gray still one? Where does Ryan compare with Ober? Is Lopez 5 or is Maeda? Fun to speculate. But with the Twins bats we need all five to be great.

500 team is going to have good games and bad games. The difficulty for fans is deciding which games represent the real team. Games like this? Give us real hope for the second half of the season and our schedule is in our favor

I disagree on Enlow. Five walks in 5 innings and a struggle to throw strikes is not make him good enough to be a pitcher of the day

Questions like this only make people speculate and move from the basic story - the question could be asked - who will bat for Arraez if he is not here. We have the answer and it is not good.

Thanks for the painful reconstruction of a trade I hated. Lopez needs a drastic turn around to make us feel better. But as much as we miss his bat. His attitude is what this team needs. Sometimes an enthusiastic and positive player has more value than their bat and glove - 'remember the turtle!' No one has that fun factor (no stats to support this) and the team just goes on with business.

I am sad - I wanted to have a team that inspired and fought! But we have a team with Correa/Buxton/Kepler/Vasquez/Gallo killing any momentum and still being given valuable ABs. We have a hitting coach with no accountability. We have a player given a minor league contract who is out performing all our veterans. Gray is having a hard time getting another win and Lopez has become a league average pitcher. Ober is someone we worry about as his innings increase and Ryan is still not the Ace when it comes to the elite teams we face. The BP now is without Steward and Thielbar and we have only one arm we all expect to succeed. So what now Falvey and Levine? Don't give away any more prospects to get the golden ring. Figure this out. It is your team.

Same reason that Gallo and Kepler play instead of Wallner and Larnach - we have no willingness to step up, make changes, force the issues. Blah - boring - sit back and hope for the best. Yuck.

Yes. Good article. Good reflection. Maybe the result will change over time, but right now I think you got the list correct.

Pablo Lopez is Better than His ERA

I'm not upset about the contract, but I'm just not ready to think he's that great. -
Pablo Lopez is Better than His ERA
mikelink45 replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not upset and I'm not bringing up Arraez I just get upset with efforts to find statistics to make people better than what they are. I'm very happy with the eye test and I don't need somebody to tell me that we didn't lose because we actually had better statistics. Lopez is talented. But he's not any different than what his career stats show. So I Don't want to hear how great he is and I don't care to judge the trade. Give me the full year and let's see what Lopez has done for us. -
Pablo Lopez is Better than His ERA
mikelink45 replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I lost my original response, but to compare Nolan and Pablo is way out of my ability. Pablo is 31` - 36 with a career 4.01 and this year he is 4.40. Is he okay - yes, but we did not extend him because he was okay -
Pablo Lopez is Better than His ERA
mikelink45 replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No you are exaggerating to make a point - I simply ask who won, who lost and did he perform at the level we want and expect and after the first month he has not. -

I have no idea - but no one else does either. Look at his career and tell me that he is better than his record. -

who won? That is all I ask. -

mikelink45 replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Come on - next we will find out that the Twins are better than their record. Performance and results are what I care about. And Lopez after the first month has been no better than a #4 or 5 starter.
