The BP is still a weakness. First Headrick and now Winder. The pitchers we thought would blossom after the minors aren't doing it. Are we failing in our development?

Week in Review: Quiet Deadline, Quality Response
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What has made things so good for the Twins? Cleveland giving up on the season Julien and Wallner giving us the bats Maeda reliving his 2020 season Pagan not stinking! What has not been good? Our highest paid Twins not carrying their weight of their salary in the lineup Ryan and Duran looking like they need a rest. The front office giving us a line of BS about the trade deadline.- 34 replies

A really lovely game - but let's expand the Good list. Actually Jeffers and Maeda need to be moved to the Very Good list. Wallner has taken over LF or DH - either way he has to play. Julien continues to get hits and has been a wonderful addition to the team. He is doing the Arreaz imitation that we need. Kepler has made me and many others look bad for writing him off - good. Michael Taylor is underrated by most fans, but has done a great job in the absence of Buxton. The Bad Sorry, but Gallo just frustrates me. Can't Larnach, Farmer, Solano, Castro, Williams, Prato put on a 1B glove? Three AB's - 3 Ks. And his OPS is not a good measure - a bunch of early HRs and Good or bad - 13 Ks keeps us moving towards the record. I agree with putting Correa lower in the order - the same with Buxton when he comes back. Make them earn the higher positon. The really good - we won.

Minor League Report (8/5): The Bats Are Alright
mikelink45 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
How great! I really like that you put up multi-hit games as well as HR and pitching. It recognizes good ABs and not just the splash of the HR. Something tells me that Larnach really belongs in the majors! Can't we teach him how to play 1B - it has to be better than Gallo. Will Prato get a shot at the bigs? Chris Williams seems like he is ready to bust out too and Austin Martin had a good night - but where do we put him?- 20 replies

3 Stats that Define the 2023 Twins
mikelink45 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I cannot ignore the Ks - 1140 - the worst in the league BA - 10TH in league - 236 Hits - 11th of 15 - 883 - compare that to Ks SF - 20 - last in the league which explains some of the bases loaded weakness. Saves - 26 - ranks 10th.- 13 replies

I was happy keeping prospects - Steer and Encarcion would have been good on the team this year, But the issue of spending money is not in my area of knowledge. I just know that we could have done better spending Gallo money on RP. No comment on Correa money, everyone loved it at the time. Our recent addition does not seem any better than putting Garlick back on the roster or giving Stevenson or Contrares a real opportunity. I enjoyed your rant whether it is accurate or not.

Twins Claim Outfielder Jordan Luplow
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is the big acquisition to go against Lefties! I see the rest of the league running up the red flag. Pathetic. -
Don't forget Farmer 696 I see Michael Taylor listed. He should not be. He is over his career OPS. He has saved us from the Buxton meltdown and the Celestino failure and the Kepler refusal. And then we have the pitchers. Not pretty, but thanks Cleveland, we will slide to the division championship.

I share your concern. I like to look at BR - last five games to see a little of the trend. Is he tired, In the heat I can understand that and the sweat he had to wipe off. We need him if we are going to do anything in the playoffs.

We like drama. What kind of suspense would there be if we rattled off a winning streak and pulled away? How do you sell tickets to a runaway? No we will continue to force Cleveland to think that there is a chance to win the division which will force them to have to play serious ball and keep the spectators and MLB.com watching.

Thanks - I just did and it makes me question why Stevenson and Contreras have not been given some opportunities. We do not have such an exclusive 40 man that we can't bring up hot bats.

I would love a story and statistics on the former Twins still in the system - Celestino, Larnach, Headrick, etc. Any who have been up but are laboring in the minors. I am just curious about how they are doing and if they are in fact ready to come back.

We have been watching Joe Ryan struggle for the last few games. I agree that he should be given a skip his next round and see if he can't get himself together. Is it too many? Has the league figured him out? Something has to change

I have to share this Ken Rosenthal quote: " "Call it whatever you want — restraint, discipline, outright fear — but few executives act with urgency. Many are too busy spouting playoff odds to rationalize their inactivity, sticking to their beloved processes, moving ever so cautiously as they try to preserve their jobs." And Keith Law said: "The Twins didn’t do anything to add, either, so I guess the AL Central is the battle of who could care less. The three teams below these two were all sellers, leaving the Twins and Guardians to fight it out for the division title, and maybe one of them will actually win more than half of their games this year. Either one of these teams could have put some real distance between themselves and their rivals with one big move, but the Guardians sold and the Twins went wee-wee-wee all the way home."

Here is the take from the Athletic: Their only move was a change-of-scenery swap: Jorge López for Dylan Floro. It’s an astonishing lack of activity for a team with real flaws. If you want the rest - here is the URL.https://theathletic.com/4738208/2023/08/01/mlb-trade-deadline-winners-losers-takeways/?campaign=5888993&source=dailyemail

The landscaped changed and the Twins were the only ones unable to adjust! Not acceptable. Maybe they could have moved earlier. This is what we have to do now that it is settled - DFA Gallo, Put Larnach and Wallner in the OF. Get Buxton off the bench and into the field. Bring in Thielbar, keep Duran fresh. Try some new arms in the BP - there is room if we do my first suggestion. Try Varland in the pen. Rearrange the batting order, What happened to Keuchel?

Twins Pitcher of the Month: July 2023
mikelink45 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is sad to see Gray making the list - at the bottom. He was such a good candidate to trade. When I see all the prospects the White Sox accumulated, I wished we had nabbed one or two. Jax at 4 is also a reflection on how poor the pitching has been this month. Congratulations on looking past the Pagan hating (I am one who doesn't trust him) he deserved the rank. Even ending the month with a clunker, Ober was a good choice. I am surprised Lopez did not come in 3rd or 4th.- 7 replies

Twins Do Nothing at Deadline
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The only thing positive out of this trade season is the fact that it gave TD a chance to write dozens of articles about possible trades and acquisitions. -
Should the Twins Trade Sonny Gray or Kenta Maeda?
mikelink45 replied to Adam Friedman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Does it make sense to watch him walk away and get a big contract with somebody else? And the meantime, we continue to win our division and go home -
Our entire division is behind every team in the American league East and West except for Oakland. And then we don't do anything? This is really a sad situation. We didn't need to sell out on all our prospects and we didn't have to go for the highest profile out there, but do something. This front office really frustrates me
