    Consider Catcher from the Twins history. Mauer is number one and who would be number 2? Battey, Harper, AJ? When a player stand so far above everyone else on a 62 year old list that makes him really special. Of course he should be in.

    I am still liking the idea of a power hitter adjusting to get any hit when we need to advance a runner and score the tying or winning run. We have seen MLB have many players who could hit HRs and not strikeout. For example DiMaggio and Berra had more than 359 HRs and less than 599 Ks. Maris had 67 Ks when he hit 61 HRs. Check out this Sabr list. I know that we cannot go backward in the way MLB plays (although the rule changes demonstrate that that is a desired outcome for many of us. Gallo is gone - I am so glad and so are so many others. I know people do not want to see BA anymore (I am an exception), but all or nothing is not winning baseball. The Acuna, Soto, Freeman, Betts types are the stars and do both. If we cannot find players that have that skill level then we need to balance the lineup with players like Julien, Arraez with players like Wallner and hope that Correa and Lewis become the superstar batters that combine both.

    Good speculation, but no clear answer here. I still worry that Castro cannot match last year, but hope he does. Does Wallner take off or become a Larnach frustration? Who knows - it is the intrigue of MLB.

    No - because baseball is not made up of creditable stories. Who would have thought we could get rid of Donaldson and his horrible contract to the Yankees? What I have posed in this 2027 lineup discussion is a player who might look like he has potential enough to interest another team. This is three years from now - not next year. I hope you have looked at the title of the essay. And, yes different teams have different realities. Pujols goes back to the Cardinals for a big finish after being a white elephant for the Angels. These things happen.

    I have watched many players get their no trade bought out. Saying they should trade Buxton in the future - remember this article is not about next year - has certainly created a lot of reactions (which I enjoy). But the projected player development in this article makes a regularly injured Buxton even less valuable and if a team wants him and if Buxton thinks that new team will provide him the opportunities he wants a deal will get done. But don't worry it will not impact 2024.

    Sorry but the monotonously makes no sense. I don't even dislike Buxton, but he has not been a major contributor as much as we had wished he would. This article is about a future lineup and if all the pieces fall into place his value to the team is even less. But other teams can still value his potential, so yes trade him if we get the value we want.

    I have watched a lot of players get traded with a no trade clause - It does give them some control and it is also a way to get extra money. Juan Soto had a limited no-trade clause in his SD contract.

    Those are usually just negotiation clauses.

    Too early, but I liked the lineup until DH. It will be Kiriloff or Julien. If Buxton gets back to playing shape I trade him quickly.

    Severino is the least exciting of the players listed - I do not want more Ks. It also says a lot about Simeon Woods Richardson that he was not in any of the pairings, nor was Austin Martin - these two may be major leaguers this year, but expectations are not for them to be difference makers.

    Nothing here is filled with promise and high upside. I can only wait and see.

    I see this as a big reach to have a column to write. Not excited by Grisham, not wanting to send prospects to NY. Big No - move on.

    I will take Lewis and Correa. Next would be Wallner and Julien. The injury pairing of Buxton and Kiriloff is potentially great, but they need to stay out of the hospital to make the ranking. But based on last year the last half season it was our trade boys - Polanco and Kepler.

    Wow - the comments are really strong with emotion. I believe baseball players will sign anywhere that they get the money they want. Of course Ohtani chose LA- look at that contract! And Judge choosing NY was not about geography - NY is where he has always played and is his comfort zone. Correa did not reject SF. I worked in SF this past year and they have a problem with the homeless because they have taken over a street that is in the center of the city. The wharf and other areas are still great, but we have an issue in every city with what to do with the massive homeless issue.     As so often happens the article triggered another thought in my mind. If we are only going to use 5 inning SP, why not go back to a 4 man rotation? We are not over using them. No Warren Spahn - Marichal marathons. So give them a chance to pitch more often and don't use an inning eater (or rather mediocre arm).

    Silly money being spent - the market goes up because the big money teams compete with each other and throw figures around that 80% of the other teams cannot dream of matching. Is Ohtani really worth that amount? No. But that is not the point. He is the bauble that one big team can flash for the other team. I remember the first $100,000 salary. But now that is pay for one game - win or lose. I am put off by it and I love it when a team regrets what they spent, but can't do anything about it. Forget Ohtani - the Angels spent big on Trout who has 15 post season ABs and Pujols who was constantly berated (until he came back to the Cards) and Rendon. How has that worked out? The Yankees take on Stanton and Rodon and Donaldson - then come close to 500 for the first since the dinosaurs. The big name and big contract does not mean success. I enjoy Carlos Correa, but he was not the reason we won the division any more than Buxton. Baseball is not a game where one star makes the difference, it truly is a team game. Trout can only bat 3 - 5 times a game, Cole can only pitch every 5th day. What I like about the Twins is there total roster and the players like Castro and Solano and Taylor making the difference along with rookies who shine when given a chance.

    They have to hope Paddack becomes the guy they envision because the other guys are good for the season, but not the shut down guy that the playoffs demand. So who will we trade with?

    I agree, he has disappointed each try. It might be a mental issue now. But it would be really nice to see him break through and produce the way we had thought he would.

    My does the OF look weak, Buxton is not someone to count on and if we trade Kepler we have an OF of Wallner, Castro or Gordon and Larnach. Yikes does that look bad even if it is just in print. I am not ready to rely on Austin Martin either.

    When will all these 10 - 12 year overpays start to catch up with the teams? I really am glad the Twins are not in that chase for financial silliness. Our contract with Correa is enough. Projected 12 years for Bellinger in the article. He batted over 300 last year and in 2019. Has anyone looked at the three years in between? 210, 165, 234. So who are you getting? I hope the Twins find a SP with our trade assets but if not push those young arms.

    Fascinating to speculate - but the question that comes to mind is if U players are like BP pitchers - up and down from year to year and hard to project. We have a lot of them so something good should sort out here. But I do not which it would be even though I lean towards Castro. In five years he has 3 WAR - but 2.4 came last year. Is that sustainable?

    I put SWR in the BP - then it is a guess which is really ready with the arsenal and confidence to face MLB hitters. I do like the list. Where do they rank nationally?
