  1. It would be one thing if they just blew us away in every aspect, but our bats worked today. 6 runs should be a victory or a close loss. Sorry, but Maeda needs to prove some things to stay in the lineup if we are serious about contending.
  2. I am waiting to see the hitters start to produce. That will give me a lot more confidence.
  3. Sometimes I think I should change my moniker to "Wins do Count" - starting pitchers accumulate wins by being in the game long enough to earn them. RP wins mean nothing and I do wish the scorers would use their discretion to give wins to the most deserving. But never-the-less, Joe Ryan is really showing something and it is a delight. Not sure if it continues, but right now he and Gray are really giving us a great 1 - 2 (I know Lopez is good too). Now speaking of scorers - how does Solano not have two errors? Brutal play at 1B. And yes fielding at 1B does count too. Now if we could just learn to beat the bad teams.
  4. I want to say wait until June, but then we were at the All-star break last year when the wheels fell off. Everytime I feel like we are ready to move up we get a lousy team to play and fall apart. At this time we are a 500 team and will remain there until we can start to get both bats and arms in sync.
  5. Solano is doing what they want and need. I do not think he is ready to be sent away. 286 .355 .357 .712 Gordon looked so good last year, but with Farmer and Solano he is expendable. Of course I would let Castro go first. I would move Gallo to the OF and put Kiriloff at first base. I would probably bring Wallner back up and give him a longer period to adjust.
  6. Can you give us an update on Prielipp and his status? We have not heard much about Salas except that he ranks high on the list. Is he playing well or not - the stats that you posted with him did not look good.. I am also worried that Rodriguez is suffering another injury.
  7. I agree with moving Gallo to the OF. And I am not pleased with Buxton's production, but there is no way he is cut, demoted or anything else. If seems as if people are reading my post as a statement that I want to get rid of these players. In fact, I just want the best players on the 26 man roster and the cuts come from those who are underperforming.
  8. Did Gray want to pitch 8? Felt like he could keep going. Jax and Moran were both scary yesterday. I am with those who think Gray is a good candidate for an extension. I also like the way he works and I am always bothered by judging a pitcher on how many strikeouts he has. That is not the only thing a good pitcher can do.
  9. I don't advocate for cutting, dropping or anything else, but based on their production these are the players that the Twins can move - anyway they want - if we have a better player ready to come up.
  10. I like the question, but cannot give you an answer. I will say that Larkin was not a foundation player. Gaetti and Knoblauch were the players to added to Puckett and Hrbek. But also there was Frank Viola and Jack Morris.
  11. This is not a call for demoting them. It is simply a response to the question of who do we cut if we think we have someone more productive to call up. A team can only last so long playing with hope instead of production.
  12. These are three year stats, not just this years. I have always liked Gordon, hoped that Larnach would be a stud, but when it comes to cuts, they are on the chopping block.
  13. In terms of traded players we lost. No one made it, and Donaldson did play. Correa is a separate issue. The Twins contracts are their choice. They could have had both if they wanted. I am glad to be rid of Donaldson, but I do not consider dumping a bad contract to be a big victory.
  14. Yes victories matter - I believe the team with the most victories wins their division. Ryan is as much of an ace as Grey and Lopez for now and I will take his attitude any day. Go Twins. If you can't beat the bad teams than feast on the good ones.
  15. Put me down as a Miranda believer. He will come around soon.
  16. How about a longer term look - We signed Lopez to an extension to insure that we have quality in the rotation for the period of Correa's contract. We have Ryan until he is 31 because of his late start in the majors. We could extend Gray (but good luck with that). That leaves Mahle and Maeda. Are we going to extend either of both? If not Ober gives us 5 years of service and Varland and the others can fill in behind him. But why waste this year of Ober's arm? Maeda in the BP or Mahle in the BP. I don't care. Six man rotation, fine, but keep the 27 year old Ober in the rotation and you his still young arm now and for the next few years. Ober is 6 - 6 3.74 era, 2.4 WAR and 1.143 WHIP for 32 starts is very useful. Mahle is one year older than Ober. Mahle has been given the chance to start 60 games over that same three year time span. He is 20 - 16 for that period. 3.96 ERA and a 1.222 Whip. Maeda (for three years - not counting his injury year)is age 35 with 35 starts is 12 - 9 with a whip of 1.085.
  17. Not so tough - Gordon's composite for three years is 250 .295 .384 .679 Trevor Larnach for the same period 227 .318 .371 .689 We can cut both at this stage. And Kepler - for those same three years has been .222 .312 .353 .664 We can cut him too. Willi Castro for that three year period is .229 .278 .359 .637 Yes we can cut him too. So what is the hard decision - is it which one goes first? There is room for Kiriloff, Lewis, Lee, Julien without any trouble at all.
  18. It was 3 - 1. Ober was great, but let's not overhype the win. It was a good win against a bad team and we did not come on strong.
  19. It is time to give Ober the ball every 5 games. This team is really a puzzle. Is it just our hometeam bias that says they should be better than 500?
  20. I understand how Pablo could be affected by the cold, but the rest of the team? We are now under 500 since the last all-star game. Is that a fluke or who we are. Gallo batting second with two Ks in four ABs, yet his 258 AV was second only to Vasquez in the starting lineup. That is a problem. SWR had a chance to impress - he did not. Is Winder next in that role? Glad to see Ober getting the start today. But where is the urgency?
  21. If I was the GM of the Red Sox I would be trying for another Big Papi surprise and give Sano a minor league contract. Arraez is always going to feel like a big loss - especially with the Twins struggling for base hits.
  22. Or a hit and run (do they do that any more?) or a stolen base (not the Twins).
  23. Does it matter - he isn't playing CF, and he isn't hitting. Let's use Buxton as a ball player and take off the bubble wrap - it isn't working.
  24. It was a good essay, but Buxton at DH does not do it for me at this time. I need more than a Sano imitation. With his speed he could do so much more. Taylor is center is okay, but there is a lot to resolve. and I know it is early in the season. May is coming and the bats need to heat up.
