Louie Varland Has a Home Run Problem
David Maro replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Varland has become a thrower not a pitcher, too many pitches left in the middle of the zone. When you watch closely he starts to rush his pitches. He is releasing his pitches with 7,8,9 seconds on the pitch clock. Time to go back to St Paul and work on using the clock to his advantage. That way his pitches should be less likely to be in the middle of the zone. -
Why is it when they strike out, they walk back to the dugout with the look of o well. As fans maybe we need to get them a strike out vest to wear. Raley for the Ray's strikes out in a key at bat and broke his bat over his leg. I think they are fine with the strike outs and are trying to hit closer to 2000 so they have two records, homeruns and strike outs. Didn't watch this one because watching the last 2 was enough for me. And will not waste Father's Day watching bad baseball.

When Salono over ran 3rd base this one was over. Arraez had almost as many hits today as this whole team,he went 5-5 with everyone's favorite a homerun. I have decided to go watch some little league games, they will be much more fun. Maybe a strike out vest is needed to get things around.

Gray has to pitch better, can't go 3-2 on almost every hitter you face. Tiger hitters layed off his pitches out of the zone,so he needed to give them a pitch to hit. Lewis needs to stop trying to be Correa. His throws don't need to be 90+ when 80 will do. Why was the over throw a hit not a error. The runner was feet from the bag when the ball went over Salono's head. If anyone needed to be pinch hit for it was Buxton, can't swing at pitches a foot off the plate. This team are strike out artists and continue to have an inning here and there. When you have a pitcher on the ropes you need to finish the job. But when you have a bunch of players trying to hit homeruns only this is what you get. Correa tried to screw himself into the ground the at bat before striking out. All of this is on the bad manager in the dugout.

What Do You Do With a Problem Like Miranda?
David Maro replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Miranda is the teams dog days of summer insurance policy. Right now Lewis is the 3rd baseman because they don't want to lose him to injury. Buxton has been on the IL twice this year not playing CF. Why would they play him there when Taylor has been able to play every day. I know Kepler has been a problem with the bat,but we saw how poor play in RF can change the game. Anderson looked over matched on 3 hits today.- 62 replies

When has the Twins played well on the West Coast, play 4 in Seattle and 3 in Oakland. We have 3 against Atlanta the end of June and 7 against Baltimore in July. I know we do have Chicago and Kansas City, but always seem be close games. Next week 4 with Boston, you can throw all kind of numbers out,I look at how they play some teams.
-
This is a less than 500 team,so why are we talking trades for this position or BP arm. If you look at the July schedule you will see it only gets tougher. You don't have 12-17 strike outs per game by one or two players,it is a team afford. Maybe they need to discard the vest and replace it with fine jar for charity for striking out. Adding Joey Strike Out to the roster this morning is only going to add to the strike outs.
-
Plenty of chances to add on,but stood in the box taking strike 3. This team is actually looking to strike out 2000 times end of season. If they average 12.3 a game for 162 they will get there. How many games do we watch score early then hope we hold on. When you have a pitcher on the ropes you need to put them away. You have to play baseball, not homerun. Yes the homerun is part of the game, but how many homeruns does a player hit in 400-500 PA. Only a few players even see 25-35 in a season. Putting the ball in play wins games because it puts pressure on the pitcher and defense. Cleveland is 1.5 games back because they put the ball in play. Their manager is a HOF manager and if it was all about the homerun he would be managing that way. The starters are doing their job but hitting is beyond bad and manager is even worse.

The Clock is Ticking on the Twins' Roster
David Maro replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We can talk about all the young talent in St Paul all we want. We have already seen that with some of that talent. The problem is with the manager and coaches, they don't care about strike outs and only love the homerun. They wouldn't call for a hit and run if it was the only play. I only see 2 players that actually are able to run bases. Station to Station to them is turning a noob on the radio. It's homerun or strike outs and starting pitching is paying the price. It is day after day becoming harder to watch and will be even harder to attend.- 32 replies

Got a invitation to Twins game against Boston when I will be in town visiting family. Told them I will be too busy to waste my time. I just saw the White Sox are now 1 game closer after beating the Yankees. They just got their closer back and are on a roll. This team is a mess and will be in 3rd place as of Sunday. Bad FO signings a long with poor coaching equal poor play. Hard to believe Taylor and Castro are the only ones that can run the bases. Don't tell me Buxton, because he only wants to hit homeruns. Every time he is on base he gets up like he just hurt himself. I see Lewis has fit right in with the team, strike out and hitting around 200 just like the rest of the strike out artists. Polhad's will have to step up and make changes in the off season or the stands will look like Oakland next year.

One question no one has asked is who would you vote to the Allstar game? I don't see a single position player on this roster. I think only Gray,Ryan,or Duran will get any chance. That should tell everyone all we need to know. This team is done and will sink like a stone from here just like last year. I will be interested in the Vikings from here. Been a Twins fan since 1961 and see the hand writing on the wall.

Turned this one off when 33 million dollar boy stood in the box watching his liner to left stay in the yard. Then Solano takes the center fielder falling backwards and 33 million dollar boy still standing on 2nd. A real manager would have said I've seen enough and put him on the bench. I did see that 33 million dollar boy also had 25% of the strike outs.

Everyone wants Wallner and Larnach back up with the Twins. Why would you want that? This team is full of strike out artists, who only want to hit homeruns. Bringing them up will only add to the same at bats we all see. Worst thing happened when they hit 307. Now their goal is to hit 308,but instead they will be lucky to keep the strike outs under 2000. Need to change the teams identity and we know that isn't going to happen. The FO seems to be able to only fix one thing at a time,so maybe next year.

We talk all we want about this or that, but the truth is this team is interested in one thing. They all want to be the next one up to wear the dumb vest. Its all about the homerun, not baseball. I turned it off when Taylor got the base hit stole second and Polanco look bad and Lewis even worse. Meanwhile Taylor ended up still on second. Everyone of the coaches and manager needs their walking papers. The game is baseball not homerun. Everyone seems all excited about Castro hitting a solo shoot when their down by 2. You win by scoring one more run than the other team. Good luck in Tampa and Toronto Boys you are going to need it.

The bottom of the 6th,not scoring at least one run in that situation gave Cleveland hope and they took it. No matter who is pitching you can't hang a curveball over the plate. If you payed any attention to Brennen's at bats he has been on Twins pitches the whole series. Can't see why they insist on using Lopez until he sees someone to get out of his head. One bad call or play he hangs a pitch or hits the batter. Put him on the IL for 10 days please. We now need to win Sunday to make a statement. But with this manager it will be very difficult.

Varland showed everyone how to challenge hitters last night. If you throw strikes the hitters have to swing the bat. With the game in hand why not take him out after 7 and save him for later. Maybe that is why Ryan had a bad outing,he has been over 100 pitches his last 2 starts. As I stated before Castro needs to be in the lineup until farther notice. He plays baseball, something most on this team don't. How much longer do we have to watch Joey Strike Out in the lineup. Put him on the bench and the strike out total goes down by 3 or 4. Lopez needs to go see a Sports Physician to get his head right. If a umpire doesn't give him a call he loses it and grooves the next pitch. This Series with Cleveland is going to be a very important one for the Twins. They need to go 3-1 to show they are better than most of us think.

I turned this game off after the 3rd inning do to the same thing different day. Can't watch the strike out artists swing for the fences anymore. As far as Correa goes, some people get paid and they think life is good. As for Ryan he ended up on the mound on the wrong day. He had been getting huge leads,so didn't have to pitch under pressure. Why was Castro on the bench when he is the only player playing baseball. We will now get to see this team fall under 500 and out of 1st. Maybe the Polhad's need to step in before the seats start to go empty. Not going anywhere win a game lose a game.

Blue Jays 3, Twins 0: Time to Do Something Else
David Maro replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gallo goes 0-4 with a walk Saturday with 4 strike outs. Gets rewarded to play 1st again on Sunday. A real manager would say that you need to sit today. But we don't have a real manager. He wouldn't know situational baseball if it jumped up and bite him. There is no hit and run plays,no hit behind the runner. But of course let's swing for the fences every at bat. Berrios walks 5 batters and can't score even 1 run, this is laughable but not as bad as Friday. Of course we all saw that,9 walks and 1 run. Bringing Lewis up and Kepler back will not change anything as long as this manager and coaching staff are there. One other thing Correa needs to stop talking and start doing what he's being paid to do.- 77 replies

Everyone talks about the about the 9 walks that mean nothing if they can't hit. Again bases loaded and standing there taking pitches down the middle, and going back to the dugout is ridiculous. At least fire the hitting coach now. The starters need to go to the FO and speak their minds. I would like to know how many games with 9 walks for 1 team only could score 1 run. I think that they far and few between. The problem with bases loaded for this team is looking for the pitch to hit into the seats that never comes. Can't even hit a sacrifice fly, that is on coaching. Look for a long season of bad baseball,if no changes are made. The schedule only gets tougher from here.

Had to turn this one off last night, manager out managed again. Team only wants to play homerun. Its all about look at me look at me. I get to wear a dumb vest. Where was the coaching when Ober had the bad start. Let's wait until the damage is done. Then we get to see hitter after hitter swinging for the fences,so we can score 1 run at a time. Rocco said he is fine with his team swinging for fences. I have a miner league team here that may be worth seeing. A team that strikes out 12 to 16 times a game is not worth my time.
-
The last time I looked you have to protect the plate with 2 strikes. With bases loaded again Jeffers stood there with the bat on his shoulder. That is this team in a nut shell. Swing at pitches in the dirt like the first pitch he saw or watch a close pitch go by. Even if which is a big if they make the playoffs they will loss in the first round like always. The game is called baseball not homerun, they play homerun.

I said weeks ago Jax to St. Paul. He could of shared a Uber with Miranda. He is a 2 pitch pitcher, who throws a slider 80 to 90% of the time. Send him to St. Paul to work on a 3rd pitch. The other 29 teams know this and wait for him to hang one over the plate, which he will do. This manager has wasted so many quality starts by the starters. Maybe all 5 need to meet with him for face to face. Very hard to watch games being given away like this. Worst thing is he doesn't take any responsibility for it. Him and the Hitting coach need to hit the road,12 strike outs on pitches in the dirt or maybe hitting them in the back foot.

This loss is on Rocco, putting Pagan in that situation has been a problem since he came to the team. Outman saw like everyone that he had nothing but his fastball. Jumped on it,very first pitch. De Leon didn't deserve this loss. Bases loaded with no outs and wasted at bats. Pitcher didn't throw but 1 strike in a dozen pitches. Now going to play the Angels with a banged up team. Maybe time to send Correa to a eye doctor. Tired of watching him swing at pitches a foot off the plate. Must be asking Sano hitting advice.
