Time to honest here the defense on this team is terrible. And adding to it by playing Bell at 1st makes it worse. Talk about a lazy attempt on the short hop throw. If C4 was still on the team how would anyone want Bell at 1st,with all the throws he made. This shows that they need to score 6 or more to win and that's not happening every game.

The middle of the diamond showed its ugly face in this one today. When you have a slow to react player at SS and a player at 2nd who seems to be unable to play the position it's going cost games. SWR didn't help things either by walking hitters,it hurts him every time he does. Again you can't give teams extra outs because they will take advantage.

This is a poor team defensively and that is all there is to it. Gray made a terrible throw to first as well as Wallner unable to make the catch in RF just adds to extra outs and extra pitches being thrown. And after the 110 MPH line drive past Buxton that should have been the end of SWR night. If the manager knew he was sick the BP should have been there to back him up.

You can talk all the numbers you want, plus this or minus that Lee is not a SS. Watching him play is bad,he reacts after the ball is past him and when he does make a play in the hole he's too slow to 1st. And with Keashall at 2nd the pitcher is going to have to field their position better or the hits will just keep on coming.

Good win for a team that could only muster 6 hits over the weekend. And the 1200 fans that attended the game, not 12,000 that someone said was nice for them. Looking and seeing all those empty seats behind home plate is a big problem. Maybe an idea to let a parent with a child to take a couple of those empty seats. You need fans to call out to the opposition from behind home plate.

This team is beyond bad at this point and totally unwatchable. Wallner looks uninterested in the box swinging at pitches feet out of the zone. But he isn't the only one, pick a name they all are doing the same. Their SP pitched great and got zero support from his team mate's. They are now were they belong in last place as I said they would be weeks ago.

The SP show what kind of game it is going to be in the 1st inning. When it takes 25 or more pitches to get out of the 1st inning. The BP will be spent by June if this doesn't change. Your SP are at 80 pitches after 4 innings witch means 5 innings of relief, not good.

Will Tristan Gray Take (Part of) Brooks Lee's Job?
David Maro replied to rstuedem945's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Watching Lee in the box is hard to watch. Every team tells the pitcher bounce the pitch because he will swing. This is who he is and looks like this is who he will be. It's time for Culpepper to get his chance and send Lee to St Paul to work on laying off those pitches. -
New manager same boring team!! They don't play baseball,it's all about the long ball. SWR was 3-2 on almost every hitter and Twins hitters were making first pitch outs. Watched the game on the radio and glad I couldn't get it on TV. Maybe time to watch the Bananas because they are more entertaining. Why is Cory still in the booth, tired of him talking about so and so going to go deep.

Don't know what game people were watching but the score was 0-0 and Funderburk walked the leadoff hitter and Topa gave up a single up the middle putting men on first and third before Martin's mistake. Then Topa give up another single up the middle for the second run. Its time to get real about a pitcher who had a 19.00 ERA in ST. He should have been DFA'ed and another pitcher from St Paul given the opportunity.

Watching the game looked like watching Rocco 2.0. How can you put Topa in a 0-0 game when he should have been DFA'ed. And then again Lewis is supposed to be the guy and you PH for him when he has shown to come up with the big hit. If this is the way Shelton is going to do things it will be a long season.

Royce Lewis’s Spring Struggles: Fluke, or Red Flag?
David Maro replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Everyone saw him not looking good at the plate and instead of giving him another at bat they choose to pull him. If they would have given him a chance against a lesser pitcher he may have figured somethings out. They probably need to send him down after the first 3 series if things don't improve. He does have a ego that also gets in his way that may need to be humbled a bit. -
No matter who they keep this is a last place team in the central. The SP rotation is not good and the BP is even worse. Looking at Ryan who already had a issue in the ST and Ober's velocity way down will put pressure on a questionable BP. And looking at SWR,Abel and Bradley who haven't shown they will be able to go more than 4 to 5 innings again will put pressure on the BP. So that being said keeping one or the other who can't hit will be of no help.

No matter how things shake out this is a last place team in the central. The starting rotation doesn't look good with Ryan already having an issue in the spring and Ober's velocity way down. And Zebby and SWR still not looking like they want a spot. Then looking at the BP not much to see there either. Hopefully with Buxton back for the last week of camp he can help get players and fans fired up. And getting excited about 26 and 27 year old players trying to move up to the big club is a waste of time.

Report From The Fort: A New Meaning for Buxton at DH
David Maro replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How about the fact that he is now in his 30's and it may be wise to play him in the field a game or two less every week. Using him to DH for one or two games when not in the field will keep him engaged.- 5 replies

The biggest problem with the roster is bad defense at almost every position. Buxton in CF seems to be the only position to count on. And then some people want to move him to one of the corner positions. Watching both Martin and Keaschall play is not good in the field. They will have to hit and steal bases to have value. And relying on the HR is this teams montra. How about trying something new, some hit and run and hit behind the runner. In some circles they call that playing baseball.

Way to much emphasis on 98-100 mph fastballs when 95 will do. It's called pitching and too many are throwers. If they put the pitch where the catcher calls for that's pitching. And with the ABS coming this year things may be different. You probably will not see the pitchers staring down the umpires like in the past. Watching SWR he would lose his ability to throw strikes if the umpire didn't give him a pitch or two. Both Abel and Bradley have to work more on location than mph to be effective.
-
What helps a pitchers era is a team playing good defense and this team doesn't do that. Yes they have a CF who does that, but pretty much every other position is a question mark. So if you're pitcher gets 7 SO's the defense is responsible for the other 20 outs. Now the other problem is can this team start playing baseball on the offensive side and not always swing for the fences. Last time I looked you have to score at least 1 more run than the opponent to win. It could be a really long season and time to give some of the young guys playing time.

Don't want to throw cold water on the situation but need to sit Ryan down and ask him not to pitch in WBC. As of a short time ago Lopez will be getting a second opinion, but doesn't look good. Hopefully one of the many arms brought in will step up to fill his spot.

Reviewing a Twins Trade That Helped No One
David Maro replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Time to get real here Stewart wasn't going to be a Twin in 26. You can only have so many surgeries before you can't come back. They took a flyer on Outman and it doesn't look good right now. This team has many more issues than weather 1 player is going to be on the roster or not. The infield is full of questions and needs answers, the OF corners have nothing but questions. And looking at the BP that has been filled with a mix of arms that may or may not help. -
It doesn't matter what system you bring in to develop pitchers or players its all about coaching. Falvey coming from Cleveland with a system is fine, but I see their success in pitching is Carl Willis. He is someone who has been there done that. A suit and tie's job should be get the best coaching possible. The teams with strong SP seem to have coaching that pitched in the majors. It's kind of like they say catchers seem to make good managers.

For Tom Polhad to say and think this roster is going to be competitive is dreaming. The defense up the middle is below average with a stone mite at 2nd and a slow to react SS in the infield. Not sure who will play corner OF positions. The SP only has 2 that should and may give you 6+ innings in Lopez and Ryan. As of now no one can say what Ober will bring. SWR,Festa and Matthew's have not shown they have the ability to go more than 5 innings. Moving to the BP which is a empty cupboard that will be asked to pitch multiple innings in game after game. And yes we haven't talked about Bradley and Abel who will be probably start the season in the BP have not shown they can throw strikes. As for the catching position with Jeffers trying to catch more games when he has shown he brakes down. This team will finish in 4th or even last place in the division.
-
If Joe is gone and Tom is in why not make changes. And just maybe Tom didn't like the manager choice and the last couple of moves made. I mean signing another veteran catcher and a marginal 1st baseman when the BP is a empty cupboard. And the signing of T Rogers is a head scratcher. His brother is the one who still has something left in the tank not him. And all the talk about the payroll is getting old. With the CBA coming up I believe baseball understands a cap is needed. It has been and always will be baseball the last one making changes.
