No on Bader. What a joke to even consider him. I would rather keep MAT. He gets a bum rap but I'd rather see him on the team then Bader,. How do these people know MAT will regress in 2024. Who else on the team is due to regress? Plenty I would assume. And what about Buxton? He's been nothing but a pain in the butt fixture on the injured list. I would be more impressed with this front office if it negotiated a buyout for Buxton (I know that won't happen.) But all he has done for 7 of his 8 years Herr is clog up the roster and hinders the major league development of our prospects and young players. It's way past time to move on from Buxton.

I'm not surprised at all that the Twins are cutting payroll. But I am disappointed. After having a good year and even some playoff success, it is deflating. Won't be the usual off-season of hoping we add a good player. It will revert back to the go as cheap as we can route and sign has-been players. Kind of a slap in the face to loyal twins fans like me. In a way it shows that they never did plan this payroll out. Because now you have two guys, Correa and Buxton that will make well over 40% of the Twins payroll. Not much left to build your team on. We got a good shortstop out of it and a professional injured list performer. And we are stuck with that for the next several years. Great planning.

What We as Fans Know Definitively About Byron Buxton’s Knee
Whitey333 commented on Greggory Masterson's blog entry in Brewed in the Trough
Why you are so stuck on a Buxton who has injured himself into oblivion. Every off season it's the same. Next year we plan to have Buxton back full time and performing well. What fantasy island are some of your writers on. He's played 8 big league seasons. Or at least taken up space for that amount of time. Yet he only had one full season in 2017. Even then he missed several games. He has some good hot streaks at times but just as many bad streaks. He's not dependable and just clogs up the roster. It would have been fun to see him play a few full seasons to see if he was as good as all the hype about him. Somehow the Twins need to move on from Buxton. He should retire for the benefit of his health and the Twins. -
Exploring Local Alternatives to Succeed Dick Bremer
Whitey333 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nice article Seth. Although Cory Provus would be the best and most logical choice for the TV gig, I would sure miss him on the radio. .since thousands of us have been unable to watch the Twins on tv due to most streaming and cable companies not carrying bally sports the past two years; we are following g the team almost exclusively on radio. Provus is great and i happen to like Gladden as well but he could be better. I have to disagree with you on Atteberry. He obviously is well informed, does his homework well as his research is impeccable. He has a great voice but uses it way too much. He is many times difficult to listen to and follow. It seems his goal is to fill as mu h air space as possible with his banter. Many times the listener is left to wonder what us going on the field while tells us personal stories and experiences. He seems to forget sometimes that there is an actual game being played on the field. I think he could be great if he would tone it down some and take a breath. I think in that regard he would come across much better imo. Any inside scoops as to what our new TV deal may look like and from whom? Also what's your opinion on some written stories that Bremer didn't step aside on his own accord? And that the club wanted to make a change without creating too many waves.- 40 replies

Good luck Dick Bremer and thanks for years of memories involving Twins Baseball. I'm not sure about some of the anti Gladden banter. I think he and Provus do a great job on the radio side. I too am an older gentleman that loved listening to previous announcers like Herb Carneal and Gordon. Cory Provus is great on radio. He not only is very knowledgeable. HE knows the game and seems to connect with listeners. He has a great voice and isn't afraid to be critical at times. He does seem to be a natural replacement for Dick Bremer. I would kid hate to lose him on radio side and then possibly have to have more of Atterberry. He is one of the most difficult baseball broadcasters to listen to. He seems to forget many times during a Twins broadcast that there is a game going on. He's a well researched person that shares a lot of information. Some of it is even important. Some of it is even relevant to the Twins game. I dread the days when he's the main broadcaster when Provus is on vacation or he's busy doing college football or basketball games. Please, we need less, much less of atterberry, not more.

It's too bad because many of us have been unable to watch the Twins, Wild, Timberwolves etc for the past couple of years already. Unless you go to a bar or something. When cable, got way too expensive and the streaming options came at a much cheaper price, I thought it was great. Until of course those streaming services stopped carrying Bally Sports. Now after going through 3 streaming services that all dropped Bally Sports we've been left holding the bag. Thousands of us haven't had access to the local sports for 2-3 years. The time is now to get a deal with local TV that people have affordable access to watch.

Yes it looks like the Twins have some good prospects on the farm. But let's keep that in mind. As of now that's all they are is prospects. They have proven nothing that they can play with the big boys in the majors. We all hope so but let's be realistic here. Most of those prospects won't make it. So you obviously have to develop the ones with the most upside in hopes they contri ute to the major league team. A contending team not only needs young players but veterans mixed in for experience. I'm not expecting much different this off season. The Twins will wait until the last minute to make meaningful moves. Some may work out. Go Twins .

The TV contract is interesting for me. It seems that people forget that thousands of us haven't been able to watch the Twins, or wild, or t wolves for about three years now. This was initially due to cables and streaming tvs dropping the bally sports channels. I used to watch all the games fir many years. Now the only way I see them on tv is if I go to a bar/ restaurant that carries it. The Twins told us a couple of years ago they were working on it. But nothing happened. It seems like the many Twins fans were given the brushoff by Twins management. Maybe at least now they can negotiate a new tv contract that actually allows Twins fans to watch the games at home. Here's hoping.

How Could a Jhoan Duran Extension Take Shape?
Whitey333 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great article Seth. Well thought out contract proposal. I wouldn't extend him to more than 2-3 years though. His past injury issues and the fact he throws so hard is concerning. He is Tommy John surgery just waiting to happen.i just think 5 years is too long at this point. He is an excellent late inning man but IMO hasn't proven himself elite yet. The Twins have him at a cheap salary now. Keep it there at the cheap for now. -
Setting the Stage for the 2023-24 Twins Offseason
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It will be interesting to see how tge payroll budget will be handled. With 54 million in tv money not available for now, I would suspect payroll will be held in check until they know how they will be replacing that money.- 54 replies

Minnesota's Postseason Run Points to a Bright Future
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We are all happy the Twins made the playoffs and at least broke the 0-18 streak. Let's be realistic. Getting into the playoffs by winning an absolutely putrid division is one thing. But going 3-3 in the playoffs does not constitute a run. Twins only had 3 hits in each of the last two games at home. Had absolutely terrible situational hitting by swinging fir the fences all the time when many times just a ground ball or flyback would have produced a run or two. This happened way too many times this year. This team made progress the past two years which is something to build on. Twins have many free agent decisions to make. Making good choices should set us up well. Missing on personnel decisions would set us back at a time when we need to advance. Go Twins. -
They can afford Vasquez If they can throw 11 million on Gallo that produced mostly strikeouts and contributed very little, they can afford to keep Vasquez. At least he had some proven value in prior years. Gallo with his .199 lifetime average and a strikeout rate approaching 40% was rewarded with an 11 million contract last year. I know Gallo isn't a catcher. Just using the financial example. Keep Vazques. He's bound to get better. Plus maybe he can teach Jeffers how to play defense.

Creating Consistency for 2024
Whitey333 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The strikeout issue is huge. The FO and managers philosophy of swinging for the fences at all times to me is greatly flawed, especially with two strikes and runners on base. Hitting the ball someplace at least gives you a chance to move the runners. Striking out does nothing. It also adds to the boredom of Twins games. Too many at bats with nothing produced. But hearing Falvey continually backing and praising this approach is frustrating. Why can't we have both?- 23 replies

The Best Case Scenario for Byron Buxton
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wish nothing but the best for Buxton. But here we go again. Off season after off season it's the same refrain. Hoping for Byron to be healthy and productive. 8 years here and he's only been able to play one full season. That's 7 years as a part time player and full time injury list person. When will reality set in for people that he is essentially done? By keeping him as is hampers the rest of the lineup. The Twins have been more than fair with Buxton for 8 years. He's earned full time pay for being a part time player. He has produced very little during that time. Yet people mention him in the same.breath as Joe Mauer and Kirby Puckett. He's done very little on the field in 8 years to have earned that distinction. He is not and never will be a superstar. Superstars play everyday and produce. I wish no ill will for Byron but it's time he and the Twins to consider removing him from the roster, especially if we have another year of injuries and unfulfilled promises. It's right for the team and for Byron Buxton. I'm sure they could find a great non playing role for him as a coach or a team ambassador. It's time to move on. -
Pulling Joe Ryan Was the Correct Decision
Whitey333 replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am not a Rocco fan at all. I believe he is in the bottom quarter of MLB managers. His inability for in game management is shocking. Just as his rigid non flexible use of his pre ordained game plan. But I don't fault him for taking out Ryan so early. Truth be told it was our offense that doomed us and derailed us all year. You aren't going to win too many playoff games only getting 3 hits per game. Just as you won't win by striking out 52 times in 4 games. And then having the GM basically saying he doesn't care a out strikeouts. He says homeruns win ball games. How many games have we lost due to our Inability and unwillingness to put the ball in play with 2 strikes in critical al situations? -
Who do the Twins Keep Through Arbitration?
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Tough decisions this off season. The FO makes me nervous. They had some plusses in their roster development but also a lot of minuses. I'd like to see the Twins improve on the decent but not great season they just had. Improving the Team would show some commitment to the fans. However a bad 2024 in what looks like another bad year for the central division would be a big blow to the organization. Here's hoping for a great Twins off season in 2024.- 44 replies

Buxton? Who's he? If he's as beat up as he has been for 8 years. Yes 8 years all we hear is how great Buxton is. Or wait until next year when he is healthy. When will that be? He's always hurt and Is just a mirage compared to his hype. I'm sorry but it's time to move on from Buxton. I know he has a no trade clause but we are better off without him. He actually is hampering the team.

FS1 Booth: Pierzynski, Wainwright, Amin
Whitey333 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
AJ is very good in the booth. I agree with others that 3 is too many. Wainwright was ok. AJ gives a lot of insight and knowledge to the game. I'd much rather listen to him than some others. I used to really like John Smoltz. Great pitcher excellent insight. But oh how I get so tired of him promoting his old team the Braves. He rarely misses a chance to tell us how great they are or that somehow the playoff system is at fault because " his team" is struggling. It's especially bad when he Is assigned to do Braves games on national TV. Cory Provus on wcco radio broadcast is awesome. Here's hoping the Twins can keep him and Gladden together. -
I know the "eye test" in baseball is almost totally a thing of the past. I do not want robo umpiring of balls and strikes. Yes they miss a lot. But I like the human element still in the game. The big problem for me is the bad ball and strike calls in key at bats and situations. Yes I'm frustrated with home plate umpiring the past few years. But it isn't a Twins thing. All teams and players have legit gripes. It's unfortunate the perception here is the umpiring cost us playoff games. A typical minnesota refrain for all of our teams. If you can't win just blame it on the officiating.

Astros 3, Twins 2: The Season is Over
Whitey333 replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The better team won obviously. Putting Buxton in to ph for MAT was nothing but a slap in the face to Taylor. MAT was a big time player this tear filling in for Buxton. Plus he played great defense. People will miss him next season when Buxton is ok n the il for half the season again. When the going gets tough our offense dissappears again. Keep in mind that we only scored 5 total runs in sweeping Toronto. We struck out 52 times in 4 games against the Astros. Totally unacceptable. That's 52 times we had nothing at bats that produced nothing. The team has a lot of important decisions to make on players. They Twins played like the mediocre team they have been all year. That's just who they are. And blaming the terrible home plate umpiring is true minnesota fan. If we can't win, blame the officials. I do agree however that the home plate umpiring has been bad for a while and is getting much worse. They are awful. But if we had professional hitters it wouldn't be an issue. I do like some of our younger players. But we have s long way to go to be a great team like Houston. I believe our team is teetering between being good and regressing again. Good solid additions are needed. Some of the veteran leadership guys deserve to go. Like always Twins fans are left with nothing but a half empty or half full glass. We will be told all off season what a great job our manager and FO did. It will work. We are supposed to be content with just getting into playoffs or being competitive. Winning a championship is simply not in the Twins model.- 126 replies

Twins Youth Burning Them at the Worst Time
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The simple truth is the Astros are a much better team than the Twins. And it shows. Unfortunately last nights game became an embarrassment and a somewhat closer view of Twins baseball. The Twi s play in a bad division that doesn't provide much opportunity to grow the team. Twins continue to strike out at an alarming, almost laughable rate. The lack of plate discipline and ability or even willingness to adjust during an at bat to the situation has been evident all year. This team has many holes in it and needs more than a tweak to improve next year or even to maintain the status quo. Sonny Gray, a big contributer this year, probably pitched his last game as a Twin. Many others entering free agency. I'm sure the FO is going to blame everything on the unavailability of Buxton and Gallo, two of the most automatic outs on the team. Yes the rookies MUST step up. They look way overmatched.- 57 replies

This Series Means More To Jorge Polanco
Whitey333 replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Polanco is awesome. He's been hurt a little more lately but over the several years you could always count on him playing and producing. Unlike some on the team that appear to relish their time (s) on the IL, Polanco would play and contribute. Thanks Jorge. Go Twins!!! -
The home plate umpiring has been bad all year for a lot of teams. They should be embarrassed. Also strikeouts ARE boring. Yes double plays are bad too. But at least the ball was hit. That means they have to make a play on it and could blow it. Plus strikeouts produce nothing. If the team averages over 10 strikeouts per game there is no way they would ground into double plays 10 times. The old(I guess new line) of at least he didn't hit into a double play is so flawed and ironically plus makes no common.sense. last night for example late in the game. Correa was at third with one out and Twins trailing 6-4. Our catcher Jeffers was up. The Astros infield was back. They were going to give us a run for an out. All Jeffers had to do was put the ball in play on the ground anywhere except for the pitcher and its a one run game at 6-5. But no. Like all of our Twins do, he swung for the fences and struck out. Totally wasting the chance to score a run by not employing a Profesional approach to hitting. This swing for a Homer mentality is ok but you have to have situational hitting as well. This Twins team hasn't shown much of that this season.
