  1. Only 4 games in and Twins are 2-2 but already look flat. Remember they had the second worst spring training record besting the lowly White Sox by one game. Rocco continues to prove why he is one of the poorest managers in baseball. Poor lineups, poor pitching decisions. Why not challenge the play on first in the 9th inning on the double play? It was very close and at that stage of the game would have cost the team nothing. It's sad that that the highligh of the day was Buxton nearly getting run into by one of the sausage racers. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of coverage it got. Go Twins.
  2. The offense really hasn't done much from spring training. The giveaway games Rocco has each year started early this year. That's my big beef with him. It's Not losing some games it's his propensity to throw in the towel early and at times run out an inferior lineup. A lot of us wont go to sunday home games because of this. Anyway it is what it is. I know spring training doesn't matter ( they keep telling us that) but they did finish with the second worst record in all of spring training. Only the woeful White Sox had a worse record. Let's see what happens by end of April.
  3. Funny how things go. It used to be for starters to avoid 300 innings. It wasn't unusual at all for most starters to go well beyond 200 innings. Now if they approach 200 innings we worry their arm is going to fall off. And it probably will. We pay starting pitchers historically high salaries and if they pitch 6 innings it's considered some major accomplishment. Yet they are also getting injured at an alarming rate. With all the athletic trainers, and off season conditioning going on the pitchers should be in better shape now than ever before. Just saying.
  4. I really feel sorry for Lewis. I hope the injury isn't nearly as bad as feared. I'm glad Buxton made it through the day and actually played centerfield. It's sad that for 8 years we have waited and waited for Buxton to actually contribute to the team. It's also very sad that we are supposed to get excited by him actually playing. I'm glad he played. But let's not overdue it. Let's see how things are in June or July. I'm hoping for regular play and production that matches 8 years of hype. Thursday hopefully is a start. Go Twins!
  5. Good luck Royce Lewis. Good luck Twins. Another season, another year of injuries to key Twins players. This is sure getting to be old and frustrating. I sure hope Lewis gets back soon. He seems to be the real deal. Good luck Royce. We need you. Go Twins!
  6. I agree. But I need to vent lol. I know these things happen and there is probably no one person or training philosophy to blame. But I am way beyond frustrated. Let me at least blame the " baseball gods" or someone. Hopefully these players will get back soon. Lewis? We just can't have another good player wind up on any long term injury again. We already have Buxton who's as fragile as a thin piece of glass.
  7. Never understood how the Twins were even ranked as one of the best bullpen before the injuries. Although they have some good arms there are just as many question marks. As is normal with the Twins there are too many ifs. For the Twins to do well most everything has to go right and fall into place. Whereas they could be a solid contender they could just as well be the house of falling cards. I'm hoping that their awful spring training record of 2nd worst in all of spring training isn't a reflection of the upcoming season. I know it's spring training and they keep telling us the games don't matter. We'll tell that to the teams with great spring training records. I'm kind of let's wait and see what happens. Remember they tell us every year when they play poorly and lose in April that those games don't matter. Yes right. As far as Duran I'm sure he will slide right back into closer role when he returns. My big concern with him is that he throws so hard that he may be one 104 mph fastball away from Tommy John. I sure hope not. He is vital to any success the Twins have this year. Go Twins!
  8. The Twins always seem to have a lot of injuries. Not sure why but it doesn't seem to get much better. At least it gives them a good excuse when they lose games.
  9. Anything that improves competition in the AL Central would be great. The mediocre Twins have benefited greatly from incompetence amongst the other teams. They likely aren't competitive if the Twins were in most divisions. I think it's a very important this year that the Twins perform well and win the division. Anything less in this division of stiffs would be a huge disappointment.
  10. So even I am confused. Why did they sign him? Oops why did they not sign him? Is he here ir not? Does it really matter anyway? Not so much. Is tge correction story a Stu Randballs deal? If it's just an honest mistake in reporting that understandable. Things happen. If it's a satirical report that is not ok. I love Twins Daily and follow it very regularly. Keep up the good work.
  11. Besides the Twins are loathe to start a players major league clock time. I hope he develops and doesn't get jacked around like many of the prospects this regime has mishandled
  12. Very nice well written article. I'm neither optimistic nor pessimistic regarding this Twins team and season. Cutting payroll when on the precipice of a good season and progress threw a lot of cold water on the faces of fans. Mine included. Go Twins!
  13. This article is amongst the absolutely .most absurd articles I've read in TD. Most of the articles here are well written, well researched and newsworthy. This story is void of most of that. It comes across as a very sophomoric attempt to make the Twins not take any responsibility for their actions. I'm all for supporting the Twins efforts. But this article clearly misses the boat here.
  14. Great article. Just goes to show that most of the continued hype we hear about all of the great prospects is just that, hype. IMO the Twins mess up the potential careers of many young players. Launch angle, lije many of the new analytics is b.s. heaven forbid if a player hits the ball on the ground. He may actually get a hit. Strikeouts? Twins don't care at all about this unproductive and very boring out offensively. It's also funny when a player has a great spring training statistically we get excited. When a player has a poor spring training we are told spring training stats don't matter. Strange game this baseball. But I still love it. Go Twins.
  15. They sure count on Cole sands a lot these past couple of years. What has he contributed? Not much. He surely isn't worthy of a roster spot. With all the injuries he will probably make the pitching staff by default. Even without the rash of injuries this spring the bullpen was/is staffed by a lot of question marks. Go Twins.
  16. Every spring is the same for the Twins. Season success based on hope, what if, maybe, potential, hype, if only, and the like. I'm sure most teams goe through something similar but with the Twins it's a perpetual philosophy in roster building . This year is no different. Just more of it. Yes the Twins should win 87-90 games and win the non competitive Central division. But if all the what is, hype, maybe, etc don't come through they could just as easily finish with a losing record and no playoffs. We shall see.
  17. Imagine. The Twins traded for an injured starting pitcher. He may likely need Tommy John. It's Deja vu all over again.
  18. The Twins have injury issues? What else is new? I don't think even with all pitchers healthy that we aren't dominant in the pitching department. Perhaps just slightly above average. You mean the Twins traded for a pitcher Descalifini (?) That is injured? Where have we heard that before? A very familiar refrain. The pitching will be tested early. Duran injury is scary to some degree. He's always thrown so hard. He's Tommy John surgery just waiting to happen.
  19. Anyone the values Buxtons "production" in his career at over $150 million is certai ly not watching him "play" To play you must be on the field or in the lineup regularly. That value for Buxton is as absurd as the new metric era is in the game itself.
  20. The Twins handling of the TV Diamond sports has been a fiasco. For nearly 5 years they have promised to increase opportunities for tv viewership. Their contract with Bally ended. They didn't have to resign with them. They could have worked to find a better alternative to increase viewership. Instead they " took the money" from Bally and left potential viewers holding the bag again for a 5th year dealing with inaccessibility and blackouts. I'm growing so tired of all the Twins apologists. You can stop now because we know they never do anything wrong or questionable.
  21. So sick of the over hype for a generally unproven player. Yet he was able to finagle a 100 million dollar contract for playing part time. Great work on his part. Every spring it's the same old tiring story about Buxton. 8 years of people saying he's the best player in the game, a generational find etal 7 of those 8 years we have been left just wondering if he is really worth all the hype. Yes he shows glimpses of brilliance. Then many times he looks like Miguel Sano totally lost. It's long past time for him to put up or shut up.
  22. Great article as always Nick. I'm hoping the Twins go deep in the playoffs as well. After an off season filled with nothing but payroll cutbacks and the Twins handling of the TV contract, and the poor public relations "job" of the Twins I find myself feeling not so enthusiastic. I've followed the Twins for 60 years and this is about as low of a feeling I've ever had about them. I will continue to follow them and wish them well. But having not been able to watch them on tv the last several years I just don't feel connected anymore. They promised 4 years ago they were fixing the TV situation. 5 years later most of us cant even watch them in our homes. I don't like being used and lied to. That is the feeling the Twins have given me the past few seasons.
  23. Good article. It sure amplifies how fragile the bullpen is. Spring is always a fun time for positive vibes about the Twins. Acala? Who knows? I mean with injuries and all. We've waiting 8 years for Buxton to prove all the hype correct. Acala has only had about 4 years.
  24. Great article. Love all your suggestions. I think Cuddy would be my choice. But you knocking Blyleven , Molitor etal as old players who are trashing todays game is a little disingenuous. Today's game is generally trash. People that are reinventing the old past time are ruining baseball. It used to be a great game to watch. The past few years it has become unwatchable. Maybe it's a good thing most of us cant even get the games on tv. That's a story for a different time. Here's to yesterday.
  25. Ownership gets an F. Not for cutting payroll perse but the way it was handled. The TV situation had been promised to be fixed 4 years ago to get more people the ability to watch. We are still waiting. The FO only gets a c- this team is not better than last year. Way too many "what ifs" and maybe in this lineup. Overall off season grade D. Let's also not forget they cut some scouts and pushed out Dick Bremer as tv announcer after 40 years and handled it very poorly.
