Great article. Just goes to show that most of the continued hype we hear about all of the great prospects is just that, hype. IMO the Twins mess up the potential careers of many young players. Launch angle, lije many of the new analytics is b.s. heaven forbid if a player hits the ball on the ground. He may actually get a hit. Strikeouts? Twins don't care at all about this unproductive and very boring out offensively. It's also funny when a player has a great spring training statistically we get excited. When a player has a poor spring training we are told spring training stats don't matter. Strange game this baseball. But I still love it. Go Twins.

They sure count on Cole sands a lot these past couple of years. What has he contributed? Not much. He surely isn't worthy of a roster spot. With all the injuries he will probably make the pitching staff by default. Even without the rash of injuries this spring the bullpen was/is staffed by a lot of question marks. Go Twins.

The Big Question: Minnesota Twins Top of the Rotation
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Every spring is the same for the Twins. Season success based on hope, what if, maybe, potential, hype, if only, and the like. I'm sure most teams goe through something similar but with the Twins it's a perpetual philosophy in roster building . This year is no different. Just more of it. Yes the Twins should win 87-90 games and win the non competitive Central division. But if all the what is, hype, maybe, etc don't come through they could just as easily finish with a losing record and no playoffs. We shall see.- 11 replies

The Twins have injury issues? What else is new? I don't think even with all pitchers healthy that we aren't dominant in the pitching department. Perhaps just slightly above average. You mean the Twins traded for a pitcher Descalifini (?) That is injured? Where have we heard that before? A very familiar refrain. The pitching will be tested early. Duran injury is scary to some degree. He's always thrown so hard. He's Tommy John surgery just waiting to happen.

The Twins handling of the TV Diamond sports has been a fiasco. For nearly 5 years they have promised to increase opportunities for tv viewership. Their contract with Bally ended. They didn't have to resign with them. They could have worked to find a better alternative to increase viewership. Instead they " took the money" from Bally and left potential viewers holding the bag again for a 5th year dealing with inaccessibility and blackouts. I'm growing so tired of all the Twins apologists. You can stop now because we know they never do anything wrong or questionable.

Twins 2024 Position Analysis: Center Field
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So sick of the over hype for a generally unproven player. Yet he was able to finagle a 100 million dollar contract for playing part time. Great work on his part. Every spring it's the same old tiring story about Buxton. 8 years of people saying he's the best player in the game, a generational find etal 7 of those 8 years we have been left just wondering if he is really worth all the hype. Yes he shows glimpses of brilliance. Then many times he looks like Miguel Sano totally lost. It's long past time for him to put up or shut up.- 33 replies

Great article as always Nick. I'm hoping the Twins go deep in the playoffs as well. After an off season filled with nothing but payroll cutbacks and the Twins handling of the TV contract, and the poor public relations "job" of the Twins I find myself feeling not so enthusiastic. I've followed the Twins for 60 years and this is about as low of a feeling I've ever had about them. I will continue to follow them and wish them well. But having not been able to watch them on tv the last several years I just don't feel connected anymore. They promised 4 years ago they were fixing the TV situation. 5 years later most of us cant even watch them in our homes. I don't like being used and lied to. That is the feeling the Twins have given me the past few seasons.

Is THIS the Year for Jorge Alcala?
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good article. It sure amplifies how fragile the bullpen is. Spring is always a fun time for positive vibes about the Twins. Acala? Who knows? I mean with injuries and all. We've waiting 8 years for Buxton to prove all the hype correct. Acala has only had about 4 years.- 40 replies

Great article. Love all your suggestions. I think Cuddy would be my choice. But you knocking Blyleven , Molitor etal as old players who are trashing todays game is a little disingenuous. Today's game is generally trash. People that are reinventing the old past time are ruining baseball. It used to be a great game to watch. The past few years it has become unwatchable. Maybe it's a good thing most of us cant even get the games on tv. That's a story for a different time. Here's to yesterday.

Grading the Minnesota Twins’ 2024 Offseason
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Ownership gets an F. Not for cutting payroll perse but the way it was handled. The TV situation had been promised to be fixed 4 years ago to get more people the ability to watch. We are still waiting. The FO only gets a c- this team is not better than last year. Way too many "what ifs" and maybe in this lineup. Overall off season grade D. Let's also not forget they cut some scouts and pushed out Dick Bremer as tv announcer after 40 years and handled it very poorly.- 46 replies

I sure don't see how the Twins are better after this trade. Trading another first round pick for just a so so part time outfielder seems strange. But they obviously know what they are doing, right? I mean the have never made a bad trade lol

No reason to sign Hernandez. We already have a few players that can do what he does. As for Joe Pohlads comments; I see nothing there at all to complain about. As bad a job of public relations Pohlad and the Twins eschew, the players association looks terrible here. Where is the same outcry about Hernandez and his agent leaking news about twins being in contention to get his services by leaking his name with three others?

Enough Already! Let's Play Ball!
Whitey333 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm trying hard to be optimistic and not pessimistic about the upcoming season. Like always the Twins propaganda machine pumps out hype and hope. I am not excited about our starting and have questions about the bullpen. I guess one big frustration is the continued philosophy of profits over fans. Hence most of us cant even watch the games. This is the 4th or 5th year of that. The Twins were under no obligation to resign with Bally. They could have opted for mor local tv and more viewers. They chose money instead. They signed for 85% of previous contract. Instead of reinvesting in the on field product they decided to pocket the money. They lie a lot- 28 replies

Twins need to improve in the pr department. Dave st. Peter is a joke! He has been lying to twins fans for years especially about the TV situation. I've said all along ( I know that doesn't mean I'm totally right) that signing Correa to that huge contract was a huge mistake. Why pay him 35 million or so per year i you have no plans or desire to keep good players around him. And the Buxton money has been a huge joke and waste of money. If your desire is to cut payroll and pay cheap it sure was poor planning to have 2 guys taking up 40% of team payroll. And that's with one of those only playing one full season out of 8. At least Correa has some good full years of productivity to show for it. But simply too expensive for an overly frugal franchise. We shouldn't be surprised by Joe Pohlads comments. It's the same philosophy they've had since they purchased the team. I am grateful for the decades of stable ownership. It's taken me decades to try and realize that nothing changes with this franchise. I need to temper my frustrations much like the Pohlads temper their payroll and apparent disdain for the fans.

Very good article. Well researched. It certainly brought out a lot of discussion. To that end it definitely served its purpose. I would think one possibility to help the Twins bottom line that wasn't been discussed much is an increase in ticket prices. That should add at least s few million to the bottom line. After all the Timberwolves announced a 20% increase in ticket prices for next season.

Video: Joe Pohlad On Twins Payroll Flexibility
Whitey333 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Typical Twins bs. Yes the Mauer signing was great. Correa not so much. Buxton? A big waste of money. To me the problem in part is where to allocate those dollars available for payroll. Paying Correa and Buxton 50 million per season on a reduced payroll to it'd current 124 million is ridiculous. Buxton has been an over hyped failure for 8 years. Correa has been good not great. Certainly not at 33 million per year level. Way too many questions on the starting staff and the young players that are supposed to be so great. They don't get enough playing time to produce. Joe Pohlad probably is the best Pohlad to represent ownership. But the fiasco with the TV deal continues to show they still consider money and bottom line profits way above the fans. So little has changed. -
The Table Setter, February 19: The Outfield Movement
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
People still counting on Buxton? Get real. He's only played 1 full season out of 8. The only thing you can count on with Buxton is he will spend a fair amount of time on the injured list. -
3 True Lies From the Twins Offseason
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All I knowbis my opinion. My opinion is I think the Twins on paper are worse than last year. Too many question marks kn the starters after Lopez. Seems that a lot of people on here are counting on the players to have career years. That just simply isn't realistic. If you were honest you would also then realize there will be regressions and disappointments. I'm glad we have so many experts on here that on one hand ask others how do you know this then at the same time tell us how it really is. I'm no expert. Just a long time Twins fan with opinions on the team. The TV situation was handled so poorly. Shows very poor planning. Shows very little care for the fans. They didn't have to resign with Bally. Their contract was up. They could have opted to get the team available to more fans. They again chose money over fans.- 108 replies

Way too early and premature to talk about an extension for Lewis. OMG he hasn't even played 100 games yet. While he has shown flashes of brilliance we don't need another Buxton. Yes he whi milked the Twins out of 100 million dollars to be riding the injury bug for 8 seasons. Lewis is no Witt. Let's see what he can do. Twins don't need to sign him to an extension for a few more years yet. If he plays and produces then maybe. But let's let it play out.

The Twins made big mistakes last year dumping Hoffman and Columbe. I'm quite sure we can expect the same this year. Although they do have a long list of has been, injured, untested, and recycled pitchers to choose from.

More Thoughts--Super Bowl Edition
Whitey333 commented on stringer bell's blog entry in stringer bell's Blog
Kind of meh at this point regarding tge Twins 2024 season. As usual too many what is, or if this guy does this and this guy does that. People still counting on Buxton is scary. It's been 8 years now only 1 "full" season and that was in 2017. The starting pitching looks very shaky especially compared to last year. Too many either unproven or under achievers. They should win the division but you never know. Go Twins!- 9 comments

Too bad they haven't upgraded their starters more. Way too many question marks. Relying on hope and hype. I hope I'm wrong but this could be their big problem area. Go Twins!

Love your video and take on the television mess. Me like many others have been unable to watch the Twins at all for about 4 years. This isn't a new mess. They've known about Diamond financial problems the past few years. It's not like it was dumped on them all of a sudden. The Twins don't seem to care about their fans. They promised 4 years ago they were going to fix the TV mess.and still have done nothing. If anything they made it worse. I read someplace on the internet so I know it has to be true, haha, that the Twins are getting around 85% of their 2023 TV money or about 46.4 million.
