  1. Remember Twins fans. We all need to be patient. After all it'd only been 32 years since we were in the World Series.
  2. Draft picks become prospects. Most prospects are suspects. The only reason the Twins move on from Gray is draft picks don't cos t 75 million dollars. They are cheap. That's why it becomes a good deal and that's only if they pan out. Most do not.
  3. To me it is becoming more and more evident that this organization is a fraud. Ive followed this team for 60 years and the past few seasons have shown why the Twins cannot be taken seriously. They finally have a decent season then announce they are cutting payroll and some some scouting positions. The fact that they are paying just two guys nearly 50 million per year sure shows very poor planning. And one of those "players" literally has spent more time on the injury list than the field for the past 8 seasons. Now with a cut payroll there won't be a whole lot to spend on acquiring good talent. Oh yes we did get a draft pick for losing Sonny Gray. Whoopee, we all know that a Hugh percentage never pan out. They very seldom pay market value to retain or acquire good players. I didn't say never. I said seldom. All they try to do to the fan base is sell hope and b.s. it appears if they play it tight financially it suits them just fine. If they make the playoffs it's just a bonus to them, not a planned occurrence. Us gullible fans buy into this every year. It's getting so old.
  4. With Gray expected to sign with the Cardinals today for 3 years and 75 million and maeda gone, the Twins need to shore up the starting pitching. Will they or won't they? You never know what this FO or ownership will do. I don't think they have a clue. They had signed Correa to a 6 year 200 million deal then Buxton to a seven (?) Year extension. Seems like very poor planning to me. The industry has known about Bally Sports pending bankruptcy for at least two years. Why do you spend 300 million on two players and then start cutting payroll? Seems foolish. Also foolish to give 100 million to a guy that is on the injured list much more than tge playing field. Now they are cutting a few scouting positions. With all that money tied up in two players there's not much left to spend on improvements. Hopefully they make some good trades. They've missed on a few of them.
  5. I don't see a need to bring in another centerfielder. Resign MAT. He did well and hit over twenty homeruns. That would satisfy all the swing for the fences people. Buxton? Buxton who? It's long past time to plan him not being an option in center or at bat.. We've been waiting for him for eight years to play. We paid him $100 million to be a full time resident of the injured list. Even if he is deemed healthy enough to open the season in center, it seems to be just a matter of time until he takes his seat on the injured list. He's only played 1 full year of 8. The rest have been around 50% of games. Time to move on from Byron.
  6. No to both players. They are too old and expensive. Spend it on starting pitching. Dumb Kepler and Vasquez to safe money. Byron Buxton? Who's he? It's amazing that after 8 years some people expect him to be a big superstar. Get over him. He's toast. Albeit an expensive, non- producing toast.
  7. Yes it's time to trade him. We have plenty of cheaper young players that can fill the void. Trying to get some starting pitching would seem to be the prudent thing to do.
  8. No way on this one. No top prospects for a one year rental. We need starting pitching and a center fielder. Byron who?
  9. People keep saying we have many major league prospects ready to play for the Twins. That may be true. I hope so. But let's be honest here these prospects haven proven anything yet. Let's not anoint our prospects with superstar expectations. I do hope some of them turn out well. This tv situation has been known as a possibility for the past year or two. Shows poor planning to me. When cable companies and many streaming services started dropping Bally Sports many of us have been unable to watch the games in our homes. They said almost three years ago they would fix that. They never did. I don't have much faith in the ownership as they appear to be more concerned about their bottom line than the product they maintain on the field. So if payroll is down to say 130 million. That means that two players, Correa and Buxton who make a combined 50 million per year will be eating up around 40% of payroll. Another great example of poor planning. It's hard to have confidence with this ownership.
  10. Very nice well researched and written article. Well done. Can't argue with any of your predictions. These are all just prospects at this point. Nothing more and nothing less. Hopefully a couple of them work out and stick with the Twins. Most prospects don't make it as we all know. But good luck.
  11. No way the Twins will or should trade for Soto. With an already announced payroll reduction for next year it makes no sense. Plus as of today, still no local TV package for next year. It's not feasible. Plus it just isn't going to happen.
  12. I think the Twins have damaged Larnachs career as well as others. This constant trying a young player thene goes 0 for 10 he is sent to AAA. Remember last year when they first sent him down he was leading tge team in RBIs with like 36 at the time. Some reward for doing a good job. Same could with Ober and others. I think the Twins need to show more patience with their prospects once at the major league level. Why in the world would any young players want to play in the Twins system? I am for trading Larnach. But for the chance to play regularly on a major league team. He's earned it.
  13. No on Bader. What a joke to even consider him. I would rather keep MAT. He gets a bum rap but I'd rather see him on the team then Bader,. How do these people know MAT will regress in 2024. Who else on the team is due to regress? Plenty I would assume. And what about Buxton? He's been nothing but a pain in the butt fixture on the injured list. I would be more impressed with this front office if it negotiated a buyout for Buxton (I know that won't happen.) But all he has done for 7 of his 8 years Herr is clog up the roster and hinders the major league development of our prospects and young players. It's way past time to move on from Buxton.
  14. I'm not surprised at all that the Twins are cutting payroll. But I am disappointed. After having a good year and even some playoff success, it is deflating. Won't be the usual off-season of hoping we add a good player. It will revert back to the go as cheap as we can route and sign has-been players. Kind of a slap in the face to loyal twins fans like me. In a way it shows that they never did plan this payroll out. Because now you have two guys, Correa and Buxton that will make well over 40% of the Twins payroll. Not much left to build your team on. We got a good shortstop out of it and a professional injured list performer. And we are stuck with that for the next several years. Great planning.
  15. Why you are so stuck on a Buxton who has injured himself into oblivion. Every off season it's the same. Next year we plan to have Buxton back full time and performing well. What fantasy island are some of your writers on. He's played 8 big league seasons. Or at least taken up space for that amount of time. Yet he only had one full season in 2017. Even then he missed several games. He has some good hot streaks at times but just as many bad streaks. He's not dependable and just clogs up the roster. It would have been fun to see him play a few full seasons to see if he was as good as all the hype about him. Somehow the Twins need to move on from Buxton. He should retire for the benefit of his health and the Twins.
  16. Nice article Seth. Although Cory Provus would be the best and most logical choice for the TV gig, I would sure miss him on the radio. .since thousands of us have been unable to watch the Twins on tv due to most streaming and cable companies not carrying bally sports the past two years; we are following g the team almost exclusively on radio. Provus is great and i happen to like Gladden as well but he could be better. I have to disagree with you on Atteberry. He obviously is well informed, does his homework well as his research is impeccable. He has a great voice but uses it way too much. He is many times difficult to listen to and follow. It seems his goal is to fill as mu h air space as possible with his banter. Many times the listener is left to wonder what us going on the field while tells us personal stories and experiences. He seems to forget sometimes that there is an actual game being played on the field. I think he could be great if he would tone it down some and take a breath. I think in that regard he would come across much better imo. Any inside scoops as to what our new TV deal may look like and from whom? Also what's your opinion on some written stories that Bremer didn't step aside on his own accord? And that the club wanted to make a change without creating too many waves.
  17. And the jury is still out on Buxton. Although odds do look pretty good he will be on the injured list a lot again in 2024. He's only played one "full" season out of eight. He sure holds up the roster. They better have a center fielder in mind. Go Twins.
  18. Good luck Dick Bremer and thanks for years of memories involving Twins Baseball. I'm not sure about some of the anti Gladden banter. I think he and Provus do a great job on the radio side. I too am an older gentleman that loved listening to previous announcers like Herb Carneal and Gordon. Cory Provus is great on radio. He not only is very knowledgeable. HE knows the game and seems to connect with listeners. He has a great voice and isn't afraid to be critical at times. He does seem to be a natural replacement for Dick Bremer. I would kid hate to lose him on radio side and then possibly have to have more of Atterberry. He is one of the most difficult baseball broadcasters to listen to. He seems to forget many times during a Twins broadcast that there is a game going on. He's a well researched person that shares a lot of information. Some of it is even important. Some of it is even relevant to the Twins game. I dread the days when he's the main broadcaster when Provus is on vacation or he's busy doing college football or basketball games. Please, we need less, much less of atterberry, not more.
  19. It's too bad because many of us have been unable to watch the Twins, Wild, Timberwolves etc for the past couple of years already. Unless you go to a bar or something. When cable, got way too expensive and the streaming options came at a much cheaper price, I thought it was great. Until of course those streaming services stopped carrying Bally Sports. Now after going through 3 streaming services that all dropped Bally Sports we've been left holding the bag. Thousands of us haven't had access to the local sports for 2-3 years. The time is now to get a deal with local TV that people have affordable access to watch.
  20. Yes it looks like the Twins have some good prospects on the farm. But let's keep that in mind. As of now that's all they are is prospects. They have proven nothing that they can play with the big boys in the majors. We all hope so but let's be realistic here. Most of those prospects won't make it. So you obviously have to develop the ones with the most upside in hopes they contri ute to the major league team. A contending team not only needs young players but veterans mixed in for experience. I'm not expecting much different this off season. The Twins will wait until the last minute to make meaningful moves. Some may work out. Go Twins .
  21. The TV contract is interesting for me. It seems that people forget that thousands of us haven't been able to watch the Twins, or wild, or t wolves for about three years now. This was initially due to cables and streaming tvs dropping the bally sports channels. I used to watch all the games fir many years. Now the only way I see them on tv is if I go to a bar/ restaurant that carries it. The Twins told us a couple of years ago they were working on it. But nothing happened. It seems like the many Twins fans were given the brushoff by Twins management. Maybe at least now they can negotiate a new tv contract that actually allows Twins fans to watch the games at home. Here's hoping.
  22. Great article Seth. Well thought out contract proposal. I wouldn't extend him to more than 2-3 years though. His past injury issues and the fact he throws so hard is concerning. He is Tommy John surgery just waiting to happen.i just think 5 years is too long at this point. He is an excellent late inning man but IMO hasn't proven himself elite yet. The Twins have him at a cheap salary now. Keep it there at the cheap for now.
  23. It will be interesting to see how tge payroll budget will be handled. With 54 million in tv money not available for now, I would suspect payroll will be held in check until they know how they will be replacing that money.
  24. We are all happy the Twins made the playoffs and at least broke the 0-18 streak. Let's be realistic. Getting into the playoffs by winning an absolutely putrid division is one thing. But going 3-3 in the playoffs does not constitute a run. Twins only had 3 hits in each of the last two games at home. Had absolutely terrible situational hitting by swinging fir the fences all the time when many times just a ground ball or flyback would have produced a run or two. This happened way too many times this year. This team made progress the past two years which is something to build on. Twins have many free agent decisions to make. Making good choices should set us up well. Missing on personnel decisions would set us back at a time when we need to advance. Go Twins.
  25. They can afford Vasquez If they can throw 11 million on Gallo that produced mostly strikeouts and contributed very little, they can afford to keep Vasquez. At least he had some proven value in prior years. Gallo with his .199 lifetime average and a strikeout rate approaching 40% was rewarded with an 11 million contract last year. I know Gallo isn't a catcher. Just using the financial example. Keep Vazques. He's bound to get better. Plus maybe he can teach Jeffers how to play defense.
