Greatest Twins Teams of All Time: 2023
Whitey333 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The 2023 Twins were good and very opportunistic. But the don't belong anywhere near the list of top 10 teams. They were lucky at times and very opportunistic by winning a division that had little competition or desire to win. The team had plenty of holes in the roster and somehow won a title with one of the worst managers in baseball.- 20 replies

Offseason Status Update: Attrition By Subtraction
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My guess is that if twins cannot obtain a decent starter they will then unload both Polanco and Kepler in separate deals for prospects as part of a continued salary dump.- 43 replies

Offseason Status Update: Attrition By Subtraction

The best thing that could happen to the Twins is fir the Royals and Tigers to keep signing free agent pitching. They need competition.- 43 replies

Baldelli is not much of a manager. Sure his players love him because he doesn't expect or demand much of them. His in game management skills is also nearly non existent. Analytics serve a purpose but Rocco relies on them way too much and many times ignores common sense. His swing for the fences at all costs proved fatal in the playoffs. Best manager in central now is Hinch with the Tigers.

Good for Ohatani, not so good for baseball as a whole. The cost for the rest of the players just went up as well. We are already seeing the effects of that. This also shows the Twins are unwilling to pay market value for pitching. We lose Gray, Maeda, and Pagan because Twins didn't want to pay the going rate. Now even the Royals are signing free agent pitching. The price of all future contracts with players will be going up. No not to 700 million dollar levels but it drives the bidding up for the next level free agents. TheTwins had pitching but they decided to not pay the going rate. They had a good thing going but through it away. It's there decision. They have to live with it. Same thing as the ticket buyer. They can tell the team they disagree with their payroll reduction philosophy by staying away. And yes it is way too expensive to take a family or your grandkids to a Twins game.

Twins Daily Table Setter: December 11, 2023
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's always interesting how we throw prospects names out there like they are superstars. Be realistic here. Most of the minor league players mentioned have proven little to nothing to be counted on. This team had holes last year and won the Central mainly because no other team was interested in competing. This coming season shows a lot more holes. We already have teams in the central making moves. Yes even Kansas City. Apparently it's not too early for them to add players. We know the reason is payroll reduction to some degree. As of now this team has more holes than the perverbial piece of Swiss cheese. I hope we start filling up those holes with mlb ready talent. As far as ohatani contract is concerned I think it is very bad for baseball as a whole. That huge contract will continue to increase the salaries of the mediocre average mlb player. I think we will again see ticket and concession prices increase making it too expensive for a family to attend a game.- 9 replies

Well here we go again. Another off season and another one where we are to be left hoping Buxton will bless us with hus presence. I just laugh at these people calling Buxton a superstar. What has he done in 8 years to be credited with that honor? Riding the injured list much more than playing. Yet we are supposed to believe our whole season is determined by whether or not he plays? Oh please.

Buyer Beware: Ranking the Twins’ Worst Contracts
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton has been a bust for most of his 8 year "career:" Giving him a 7 hear 100 million was a steal for him. Not bad for a guy who has only played 1 full season out of 8. Now we are hearing he is healed and ready to play this next year. How many times have we heard that over the years?? Extending him that long for that much after the injury riddled career he's had is absolutely ridiculous.- 43 replies

The payroll reduction is a slap in the face of sorts to Twins fans. The fact that they also axed a few veteran long term scouts is even more interesting in cost reduction. To me this ownership group and Front Office are not that great at planning. This Bally Sports RN has been brewing for over two years. This is not a new phenomenon. So why did they commit 33 mil pee year to Correa and 17 million a year to the oft injured Buxton. That will make up nearly 40% of payroll for the next 5 years or so. Very strange.
-
Nice list. If it's cheap, tge Twins are interested of course. Should they be? Not if you are serious about being a contender.

If 2 years and 16 million is what the market is paying for a meh reliever, the Twins are out of it. The Twins like usual are looking for bullpen help that comes cheap. That means cheap. Their refusal to consider 25 mil a year for Gray, or 12 mil a year for Maeda, and now 8 mill for a reliever shows where we are headed this year. Spending 50 mil a year on Correa and Buxton was sure smart. I said way back when the Twins may spend some big bucks over the years for individual stars but are unable or unwilling to provide a supporting cast. Typical Twins

Emilio Pagan signs 2 year deal with Reds
Whitey333 replied to CoasterProductions's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Reportedly 2 years 16 million. He was actually good this past year after an awful 2022. Twins don't want to pay the going rate for pitching. Go cheap again. -
Remember Twins fans. We all need to be patient. After all it'd only been 32 years since we were in the World Series.
-
Draft picks become prospects. Most prospects are suspects. The only reason the Twins move on from Gray is draft picks don't cos t 75 million dollars. They are cheap. That's why it becomes a good deal and that's only if they pan out. Most do not.

To me it is becoming more and more evident that this organization is a fraud. Ive followed this team for 60 years and the past few seasons have shown why the Twins cannot be taken seriously. They finally have a decent season then announce they are cutting payroll and some some scouting positions. The fact that they are paying just two guys nearly 50 million per year sure shows very poor planning. And one of those "players" literally has spent more time on the injury list than the field for the past 8 seasons. Now with a cut payroll there won't be a whole lot to spend on acquiring good talent. Oh yes we did get a draft pick for losing Sonny Gray. Whoopee, we all know that a Hugh percentage never pan out. They very seldom pay market value to retain or acquire good players. I didn't say never. I said seldom. All they try to do to the fan base is sell hope and b.s. it appears if they play it tight financially it suits them just fine. If they make the playoffs it's just a bonus to them, not a planned occurrence. Us gullible fans buy into this every year. It's getting so old.

Kenta Maeda Agrees to Deal with Tigers
Whitey333 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With Gray expected to sign with the Cardinals today for 3 years and 75 million and maeda gone, the Twins need to shore up the starting pitching. Will they or won't they? You never know what this FO or ownership will do. I don't think they have a clue. They had signed Correa to a 6 year 200 million deal then Buxton to a seven (?) Year extension. Seems like very poor planning to me. The industry has known about Bally Sports pending bankruptcy for at least two years. Why do you spend 300 million on two players and then start cutting payroll? Seems foolish. Also foolish to give 100 million to a guy that is on the injured list much more than tge playing field. Now they are cutting a few scouting positions. With all that money tied up in two players there's not much left to spend on improvements. Hopefully they make some good trades. They've missed on a few of them.- 28 replies

Five Trades to Add a Starting Center Fielder
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't see a need to bring in another centerfielder. Resign MAT. He did well and hit over twenty homeruns. That would satisfy all the swing for the fences people. Buxton? Buxton who? It's long past time to plan him not being an option in center or at bat.. We've been waiting for him for eight years to play. We paid him $100 million to be a full time resident of the injured list. Even if he is deemed healthy enough to open the season in center, it seems to be just a matter of time until he takes his seat on the injured list. He's only played 1 full year of 8. The rest have been around 50% of games. Time to move on from Byron.- 21 replies

Why the Twins Should Reconsider Cost Cutting
Whitey333 replied to Adam Friedman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
People keep saying we have many major league prospects ready to play for the Twins. That may be true. I hope so. But let's be honest here these prospects haven proven anything yet. Let's not anoint our prospects with superstar expectations. I do hope some of them turn out well. This tv situation has been known as a possibility for the past year or two. Shows poor planning to me. When cable companies and many streaming services started dropping Bally Sports many of us have been unable to watch the games in our homes. They said almost three years ago they would fix that. They never did. I don't have much faith in the ownership as they appear to be more concerned about their bottom line than the product they maintain on the field. So if payroll is down to say 130 million. That means that two players, Correa and Buxton who make a combined 50 million per year will be eating up around 40% of payroll. Another great example of poor planning. It's hard to have confidence with this ownership. -
Very nice well researched and written article. Well done. Can't argue with any of your predictions. These are all just prospects at this point. Nothing more and nothing less. Hopefully a couple of them work out and stick with the Twins. Most prospects don't make it as we all know. But good luck.

Video: Let's Dream on a Twins Deal for Juan Soto
Whitey333 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No way the Twins will or should trade for Soto. With an already announced payroll reduction for next year it makes no sense. Plus as of today, still no local TV package for next year. It's not feasible. Plus it just isn't going to happen. -
The Clock Has Struck Midnight for Trevor Larnach
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the Twins have damaged Larnachs career as well as others. This constant trying a young player thene goes 0 for 10 he is sent to AAA. Remember last year when they first sent him down he was leading tge team in RBIs with like 36 at the time. Some reward for doing a good job. Same could with Ober and others. I think the Twins need to show more patience with their prospects once at the major league level. Why in the world would any young players want to play in the Twins system? I am for trading Larnach. But for the chance to play regularly on a major league team. He's earned it.- 52 replies
