The Twins are 2nd in the AL and 5th in the league in walks. Taking pitches is subjective. If Castro goes up there looking for a fastball in the zone and gets it on the first pitch and grounds out, can you really fault him? Not all hitters, especially strike out prone hitters are great at working the count. Watching good pitches go by only to get fooled on an 0-2 count isn't where it's at.
It's why throwing 1st pitch strikes is so huge. You get swings which could lead to outs, or you get ahead in the count.
