  1. By the time the Dodgers have to pay out the actual money owed to Ohtani, their payroll will probably be close to a billion dollars. I would say this is all ridiculous, but people said the same thing with the advent of free agency. We both may be right in a sense, but the results don’t 100% support the “Buy a WS” rhetoric.
  2. “I'm trying to find the team that is (a) looking for a back-up centerfielder, and (b) willing to take a flier on a guy who has never had breakout numbers in the minors, and (c) going to keep him on the MLB roster for an entire season“. The only one that comes to mind is the MN Twins. That said, better options are available internally. This guy is aspiring to be Garlick/Refsnyder/Cave, but he’s not there yet.
  3. Pagán’s “resurrection “ was due almost entirely to being placed in low leverage situations. Watch him implode in high leverage innings like he did with SD and MN. I think this very recent trend points more to the inability of small market teams to be truly competitive. It points to the obvious disparities in the current system. “Overall, since 2000, the winning team has had an average salary ranking of 8.9, while the losing team has had a ranking of 13.6”. Have the Twin’s ever been in the top 10?
  4. I think it’s a pretty close comp. If Kepler was truly the better option, he’d be suiting up for NYY next year.
  5. Yeah, I’m not falling for this again. Is the winning percentage that dramatic last 2-3 years? I think they can find someone to throw out there in season if the internal options don’t work out. BB should be considered a bonus but not a real part of plans moving forward.
  6. I think that the potential is there, but I certainly wouldn’t bet on an optimal outcome.
  7. They were trying to reduce expectations to soften the blow when it ends up being $120M. I think that may be the ceiling. I know I’m in the minority on here, but we’ll see…
  8. Buxton is the biggest dark horse to be playing CF.
  9. I like how everyone on here has arbitrarily decided the payroll will be $140m. I haven’t seen anything from FO to indicate that.
  10. STOP with the “If Buxton can play X number of games” nonsense. If Buxton can play…you can stop right there. He couldn’t play last year. I will be happily surprised if he can ever play again, but if it’s like last year, I’d rather see a rookie.
  11. I don’t believe things are so grim that we have to resort to running Ohtani’s DoorDash orders… yet. I think we still have enough guys to try baseball.
  12. I think $125M is the CEILING. Trade Polanco and Kepler. No, there is not anyone “better” waiting in the wings, but you generally don’t get better when you cut payroll.
  13. Unfortunately, the replays in all sports are completely arbitrary. It seems like it has very little to do with what actually happened.
  14. It will be crazy. I’ll have to just turn on my TV! No VPN ‘s. No sketchy internet links. No closing a million pop-up tabs linked to porn or gambling sites. A small break before I return to all of the above for the Wild season.
  15. If they were so wise and “betting on the roster”, why put in claims on Giolito, Moore and Lopez? Can’t have it both ways. As far as that veteran presence in the lineup…we got half a reasonable season from Polanco and Kepler. Worth their contracts? Debatable. Are you employed by the front office Ted? If not, they should definitely hire you in the PR department.
  16. He’s certainly the Straw right now.
  17. They would be absolute fools to put him on the playoff roster.
  18. I think Popkins wasn’t allowed to make adjustments. This year was a real time experiment in 100% nerd baseball. Long past the time when it became apparent that it wasn’t the panacea we were led to believe, they finally gave the OK to let the actual baseball folks make adjustments.
  19. It’s telling that the picture from less than ONE year ago now shows only one player who is a part of the Twins future.
  20. “This winter the Twins “got their guy””. Well, they got A guy.
  21. If the knee can be surgically repaired, they should do it now.
