This. 100% this. Though barely.....He could still be good in 2-3 years....

Right, you could wait a bit but you chance age and injury.  I'm not dead set to trade but aggressive shopping is a must.

If Spotrac's details are correct, Buxton's full no trade clause decreases to a 5 team no trade list in 2027. Unless Buxton forces the issue in the next 2 months, I'm not trading him. We're not going to get anything close to a fair return if Atlanta knows Buxton only wants to be traded there this summer.

I think his contract was written this way because he would hit 10 years of service and it wouldn’t matter.

Players with at least 10 years of Major League service who have spent the past five consecutive seasons with the same team earn "10-and-5" rights. Under these circumstances, a player can veto any trade scenario that is proposed. In essence, 10-and-5 rights function as a full no-trade clause.

I didn't consider that... You're on to something there.

This is a hard one. Buxton's value continues to be high, and there's less reason to think this team will be good soon. So, do you try to move him at this year's deadline?

They CANNOT trade Buxton because he does not want to leave and they CANNOT force him to leave.

Why does this silly question keep being repeated over and over and over....

Buck has full 10 and 5 rights - full no trade. I want him to stay and finish his career here. However if he wants to go, he’s earned the chance to play for a ring.

That sums it up for me.  He's a respected veteran.  Respect his wishes.

Unless he really wants to be traded, trading him is likely a bad idea. Barring a bad injury, he should a productive player for years. It is usually a bad trade if the best player in a trade is the player you give up. Finally, fans don't usually like losing the face of franchise especially when there are few other reasons to be watching the team .

No current Twins player is more recognized by the general public.  That public recognition is well deserved and it means that he has more value to the Twins than just his playing performance.  He has marketing value that means his overall value to the Twins (performance + marketing) is greater than we would ever get in return in a trade.  So my answer is that while a great trade for younger prospects might make sense for the long term playing performance of the baseball team, it won't make business sense unless Buxton chooses to torch the marketing value by requesting a trade.

At least I hope so!
