  1. No current Twins player is more recognized by the general public. That public recognition is well deserved and it means that he has more value to the Twins than just his playing performance. He has marketing value that means his overall value to the Twins (performance + marketing) is greater than we would ever get in return in a trade. So my answer is that while a great trade for younger prospects might make sense for the long term playing performance of the baseball team, it won't make business sense unless Buxton chooses to torch the marketing value by requesting a trade. At least I hope so!
  2. I don't recall ever seeing switch hitters bat same sided against pitchers with reverse splits, but it potentially makes sense if the data shows there is a slight advantage to be had. I have seen where switch hitters have temporarily abandoned one side if it has been going poorly for them. Does it happen in MLB that they react to reverse splits? If I was a switch hitter I think it would be challenging as you are not only trying to keep your L/R swings healthy but now potentially have L/R swings vs. L/R pitchers or 4 different variations to keep healthy.
  3. An easy way to choose a section is to look at the available tickets on the Twins ticket page. Tickets tend to sell from down to up in each different dollar category. Pretty easy to see if all of section 102 above the first 10 rows have not been sold, for example. And, if the Twins cared, it would be easy for their ushers to have this info as well. Yet there are typically people scattered all over the unsold sections.
  4. I have the stadium access tickets (no seats) and have been to a dozen games. I have explored all around the stadium and am almost always sitting. I usually check out 2-3 different spots during a game. I have never been asked to show my ticket. As noted by others, some sections have no ushers (mostly upper decks). The lower sections generally do, but they typically allow you to walk right past. Or you can wait for them to go to the bottom of a stairs in between innings and follow them down. I believe the dugout sections and the club seats always verify tickets so I haven't gone to those sections. Lower deck left field, down the first base line in 104/103/102, and directly behind home plate have all worked well. I do make sure to sit in areas that are not populated (easy to do this year!) and generally I wait until after the first inning. All that said I have seen people challenged for tickets. Usually when a large young group of fans move into a premium section. But really I think it is likely usher specific. Most likely want nothing to do with challenging fans about tickets. Maybe some do =)
  5. Gotta say I'd focus on Hawaii over this Twins team!
  6. Wow. That is a really weak line-up. Not a single batter that would make the pitcher nervous. Lewis at 1B today? Should be good to go since he got his feet wet there yesterday! I don't disagree with moving him to the right side, but it does feel like we are playing with fire with his personality. A few errors and there goes any chance of being in a good frame of mind.
  7. Let's hope he is claimed so that the front office isn't tempted to bring him back up later this season!
  8. Others have addressed how much of an overpay this would be, and I agree. I like Jeffers, but the top paid catcher? But I think the interesting aspect of this is that the QO salary would apply to the first year of the new CBA, right? And if the owners are successful then there will likely be a cap & floor system in place that will require a significant amount of spending by the Twins. Seems likely there would need to be some transition in year 1, but think about how you can spend that money. There won't be more above average players available, same as before. But the balance of money to be spent will be towards the smaller payroll teams. Free agents that we might be interested in will likely be tough to get. Internal candidates for that spend suddenly become very interesting.
  9. I was thinking there was a good opportunity for a Guinness record for most people in a Royce Lewis flash mob!
  10. The question on the jersey giveaway has been answered! Now the question is what do they do with 10k Lewis jersey's?
  11. You need both, I think. Opinion polls over time are quite interesting in judging shifts of opinion, but others (like this) should be point in time based. A related comment, it would be very interesting to see the opinion polls over time displayed that way. For example, what is the daily opinion of Shelton from the start of the season to now on a day-to-day basis? If it's possible to view that now, I'm now sure how.
  12. @Brock Beauchamp - Does this poll reset daily? Went back in to see where it was at and it wanted me to vote again. I think a use case like this would call for a non-resetting poll ...
  13. You do realize that Royce is a human being, not just someone to entertain you? Have empathy for the personal impact of injuries.
  14. Looks like the MLB record as of 2018 may be 12 different pitchers? I think we have a real shot at being an all-time great reliever squad =) The 1973 Rangers and 1961 Kansas City A's share the record, having 12 different pitchers record a save in the same season
  15. Almost turned it off after the top of the first. But actually a really good game to watch. And my apologies to Banda for my negative thoughts about him pitching the 9th!
  16. I know it's a grey zone since the pitches were thrown in a starting capacity, but given the intent of this chart it feels like Rojas' pitches on Monday need to be included to have a reasonable picture of who is available?
  17. Dang! He was having a great season. This sounds like it is a 6-8 week timeline for return, with additional time before the hitting power returns. This also then starts to impact trade value as the deadline is only 11 weeks away. All around crap deal for Jeffers, the Twins, & the fans.
  18. My lucky year! A foul ball off of Bell’s bat in the bottom of the first :-)
  19. Connor Prielipp called up, Mick Abel to 15-day IL per Bobby Nightengale https://www.startribune.com/connor-prielipp-top-twins-prospect-mick-abel-injured-list-mets-mlb/601637792
  20. Kendry Rojas called up, Funderburk to paternity list per Bobby Nightengale https://www.startribune.com/twins-promoting-prospect-kendry-rojas-to-bullpen/601779195
  21. There was also an article in the Strib today regarding many of the same topics with the lead topic being the payroll at 24th in baseball this year: https://www.startribune.com/minnesota-twins-payroll-tom-pohlad-mlb-rank/601661789 I found this graphic in the story helpful in seeing the payroll numbers across the decades:
