  1. Connor Prielipp called up, Mick Abel to 15-day IL per Bobby Nightengale https://www.startribune.com/connor-prielipp-top-twins-prospect-mick-abel-injured-list-mets-mlb/601637792
  2. Kendry Rojas called up, Funderburk to paternity list per Bobby Nightengale https://www.startribune.com/twins-promoting-prospect-kendry-rojas-to-bullpen/601779195
  3. There was also an article in the Strib today regarding many of the same topics with the lead topic being the payroll at 24th in baseball this year: https://www.startribune.com/minnesota-twins-payroll-tom-pohlad-mlb-rank/601661789 I found this graphic in the story helpful in seeing the payroll numbers across the decades:
  4. I found this interesting and a very nice summary of the business side of the Twins, thanks for sharing @East Coast Twin! Good enough to invest 50 minutes to watch. I'm not sure there is anything new in here that hasn't been discussed thoroughly on Twins Daily, but pulls it all together and offers it with maybe a bit more business perspective and less animosity than you get here =) One thing that did seem missing in the piece was how much of the debt may have been tied to the original stadium deal. While the covid times and ongoing debt service payments certainly contributed to the rise in the overall debt, no way that can explain all of it. I think that a significant portion still is likely to have come from financing with minimal payments on the Twins contribution to the building of the stadium.
  5. @Cody Christie - Thanks for this detailed insight! I did not catch this covered in other sources. Kindness matters, sports is entertainment, sports should not be life, players are humans, humans have troubles, vulnerability is strength not weakness ... maybe a bunch of cliches, but also a bunch of truth. If that fan knew the backstory of what they were saying, and it seems likely they did, I am ashamed they are a sports fan in Minnesota.
  6. From one Brian to another, thank-you for taking me on that explanation journey, a lot to think about and masticate on! Maybe that common Brian typo should be applied here and your screen name should be @RiverBrain =)
  7. I'm not a statistics major, but I have worked a bit with numbers. The median margin of error is really not very informative here, the confidence intervals tell a much better story. If you had 5 ABS measurements which, when compared to a perfect measurement system ("source of truth"), were off by 0.05", 0.08", 0.16", 0.5", & 0.75" your median (middle value) margin of error would be 0.16". It would also be 0.16" if you had 0.14", 0.15", 0.16", 0.17", & 0.18". It is challenging to make a prediction about the next ABS measurement with just this value. The confidence values tell you statistically how likely the next ABS measurement will be within a given error. So the system is 95% confident (19 times out of 20) that the next pitch will be measured within 0.39" of the "source of truth".
  8. It's all camera based during the games. Though to determine the confidence interval they would have needed another "source of truth" during testing, I presume this was likely lidar (laser) of some type.
  9. What stand out to me in the lineup card is that all nine Twins have a home run whereas only 4 of the Red Sox do. Also much more balanced in the RBI's and the AVG & OPS. Emphasizing how broad the success has been with the hitters. Maybe a glimmer of hope for this being longer term success and not just a flash in the pan! I know, what am I thinking? It's not going to last =)
  10. Fair enough. My comment wasn't really that Clemens was included, but that if that type of player was included in the count for the Twins that it could easily be skewing the numbers being reported for other teams even more.
  11. For sure there are challenges with any selected filter. It likely goes back to the original hypothesis from my perspective, which is that the Twins have more left-handed hitting corner outfielders than other organizations. So what defines a player as a corner outfielder? It doesn't feel right to say anyone who plays there. I think that a player who plays the majority of their time in the corner outfield position might be a better criteria but certainly there are other options. You raise a great point in regards to injured players that I had not considered. To be clear, I'm not saying that Cody did choose that filter to define a narrative. No way for me to know that answer. And the answer may be similar no matter what the selection criteria may be, I haven't invested the effort that Cody did to know. But my comment is reflective of my spidey sense tingling while reading his article =) (edited to reflect the response is to amjgt not Cody)
  12. I applaud the attempt to quantify this, but do you feel that a filter that captures 3 innings of work by Kody Clemens is the best filter to use here? Or was it selected to help define a narrative?
  13. Feels like the only reasonable option for a "team identity" is if they wipe the slate clean and go with the youngsters. Then the identity will be something along the lines of young, inexperienced, & hungry! Would be more interesting than what we've got right now.
  14. Let's hope today is closer to the first Joe Ryan day this year rather than the second!
  15. I think this is the correct way to think about it and I would support it. But the challenge is that most fans have an overly simplistic view of it - the robo ump numbers are definitive to them. And, as you noted, this is probably as much to increase fan engagement as it is to "get it right" otherwise we wouldn't have the challenge system. At a certain level they might be doing something similar already for precision (not accuracy) reasons, although I haven't heard it described. Is 0.1" the smallest increment that they identify publicly? I presume the precision is at least an order of magnitude smaller, let's just say it is 0.01". If they identify 0.0" results than likely anything between +/- 0.05 would get reported as 0.0" which I assume would mean the umpire's call stands. I would be disappointed in MLB if they forced a rounding to either +/- 0.1" and did not report a 0.0" but I suppose it is possible.
  16. "According to MLB the ABS system is 99% confident that the ABS is no more than 0.39 inches from its predicted location. It is 95% confident that it is no more than .48 inches from its predicted location. " It should be more confident about a larger range. Do you have the numbers swapped?
  17. I've been 6'2" since high school. Last year at my physical they said I was 6'1" .... I disagreed, they said sometimes you shrink, I pouted. This year I was back at 6'2" .. all is good in the world =)
  18. Agreed. And it might be more than double if the rumors are accurate.
  19. I find these articles interesting, but I think an outline of the selection criteria would helpful. On the one hand it reads as if there is a set criteria, but on the other hand it feels almost as if it is just the author's subjective opinion. In reality it is, I'm sure, both. But difficult for the reader to understand without the selection criteria =)
  20. Not so sure about those numbers - I think we're talking more like $4billion .... the power of compound interest =)
  21. What am I missing on this trade? Granted Civale hasn't had a great year, but a controllable starter should get more than the 26th rated prospect in the Brewers minor leagues, right? Or are there more details pending on this trade?
  22. Can someone explain the back of Bucks neck?
  23. I wouldn't agree. I tried this last year. I'm a very technical guy. Setting things up to watch on my tv without redirecting all my internet traffic was fine, but a pain. But MLB.tv was very aggressive about blacklisting the VPN's and it turned into a big cat & mouse game. When I want to watch the game, I just want to sit down and watch it. And you still needed to pay for the MLB.tv subscription, the VPN subscription (I wouldn't use a freebie), & potentially hardware depending on your set-up. While the Fubo stream is about twice the cost for the season, it's worth it so far for ease of use. Would be different if I was still young and my time was worth less. So, can a VPN work? Certainly. No issues? Don't buy it!
  24. Minnesota Twins optioned 2B Edouard Julien to St. Paul Saints per MLB.com & StarTribune.com, presumably to make room for Lewis.
