jorgenswest Verified Member Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 MLBTR created a list of non-tenders candidates including Larnach and Topa. Is there a deal to be made with Larnach for one of these players that might not have a fit on their current team? Can the Twins move him for a catcher or someone for the bullpen?
Chembry Verified Member Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 Reese McGuire? I don't think the Cubs want Larnach, but maybe Topa? He is a good defensive catcher. DJL44 and jorgenswest 2
DJL44 Verified Member Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 Campusano of the Padres is interesting. A couple of those catchers in the $1-2M range are better than Pereda. I would take Mountcastle at $7.8M in a heartbeat. He still has a year of team control remaining and is as good of a bounceback candidate as anyone. He was a 2 WAR first baseman from 2022-2024. jorgenswest Verified Member Posted November 20, 2025 Author Posted November 20, 2025 I wonder if MJ Melendez will be non tendered. He was baseball’s worst framer in his rookie season as a catcher but he was respectable throwing out runners and did it well in the minors. Blocking pitches was an issue also. If he was so focused on the framing aspect the blocking and throwing might take a hit also. The Twins need a catcher. Campusano and Melendez were once top catching prospects. Maybe a change of scenery and opportunity will help realize those talents. McGuire was mentioned also. His glove is very solid.

Cory Engelhardt Verified Member Posted November 22, 2025 Posted November 22, 2025 Any names you all like that were designated? I have 3 that come to mind; Nick Sandlin, former reliever for Cleveland most recently Toronto. Good seasons in 2022 and 2023 with Cleveland. Also Wallners teammate at Southern Miss and in Wallners wedding party. Makes too much sense. Sam Hentges, lefty, Cleveland but previously Mr Minnesota in high school. Huge production as recently as 2023 but injuries off and on the last couple of years. When he is right he is a high end setup man and should be healthy this offseason. Scott Effross, Yankees. Was a big time trade acquisition by the Yankees in 2023 from the cubs (Yankees sent the cubs Hayden Wesnewski) and was good even in 2024 for a bit before injuries started. Again, high end setup level production in 2022 and 2023. I would love any/all of them in our 2026 bullpen ashbury, Doctor Wu, DJL44 and 3 others 6

But if Effross (which sounds like the name of a local construction company run by someone named Frank Ross) can follow a path like Tyler Mahle and summon up a good season after all that, it would be a real coup for whoever gambles on him. I would rely on a combination of medical team and analytics team to tease out where the similarities are to other cases that turned out well. Cory Engelhardt 1

DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 IF ownership keeps the payroll way down to the point where Clemens really is the primary 1B, maybe Jake Burger as a RH 1B and 3B bench option?
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 Anthony Bender could be a really solid pen option if he checks out physically. Solid WHIP, solid K numbers, and only a career .215 BA AVG against. Cory Engelhardt 1
