Saints Sentinel
St. Paul 8, Omaha 3
Box Score

Kendry Rojas: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
HR: Payton Eeles (3), James Outman (2)
Multi-hit games: Kyler Fedko (3-for-4, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB), James Outman (2-for-5, HR, 3B, 2 R, 3 RBI)

Multiple crooked frames carried the Saints to victory on Wednesday.

What’s better than a three-run inning? How about a five-run inning?. St. Paul’s initial rally kept it simple: Payton Eeles homered, then Kyler Fedko doubled, and James Outman hit one over the fence in a five-pitch stretch. That’s one of the more efficient rallies you’ll ever see.

Unsatisfied, the Saints returned in the fourth with an unquenching desire to bludgeon some baseballs. Jonah Bride earned the first RBI of the frame; then Fedko knocked in two, Outman summoned another run with a triple, and Gabriel Gonzalez ushered him home with a sacrifice fly. Needing just six outs, St. Paul sent out and successfully returned eight baserunners.

Kendry Rojas continued his shaky introduction to the Twins organization with a forgettable four-inning, three earned run outing. He topped out at 95 MPH and earned 11 swings and misses. Hopefully, the 22-year-old can find his comfort and performance soon.

Christian MacLeod played hero with four clean innings out of the bullpen, striking out four to deliver the game to Noah Davis, who concluded the game with minimal resistance.

Outman’s seven total bases were the highest since July 4th, when he was a member of the Dodgers organization.

Old friend Diego A. Castillo played shortstop for the Storm Chasers.

Rehabbing big leaguer Mark Canha homered and walked in four plate appearances for Omaha.

No member of Kansas City’s top-30 prospect list played on Wednesday.

Wind Surge Wisdom
Wichita 1, Springfield 5
Box Score

Connor Prielipp: 3 ⅓ IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
HR: Kala’i Rosario (18)
Multi-hit games: None

The Wind Surge were bested on Wednesday.

Brevity may be the soul of wit, but it isn’t the ideal descriptor of an offense. Kala’i Rosario homered in the seventh. That was the lone hit of Wichita’s night.

Unfortunately, their dry spell coincided with a less-than-sharp Connor Prielipp outing. He gave up a flurry of hits—six across ten outs netted—as the Cardinals plated three earned runs on his watch. His season WHIP now sits at 1.49. Ricky Castro was unable to save the day, though his 3 ⅔ inning appearance with a lone earned run deserved a spotlight.

Springfield catcher Leonardo Bernal, ranked as the 74th best prospect in baseball, collected two hits and a walk in four plate appearances.

Kernels Nuggets
Game One: Cedar Rapids 3, Quad Cities 0 (7 Innings)
Box Score

Ty Langenberg: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
HR: None
Multi-hit games: Kyle DeBarge (2-for-3, 2B, R, RBI), Danny De Andrade (2-for-3, 2 2B, R), Maddux Houghton (2-for-2, RBI)

Ty Langenberg tossed a complete-game shutout in game one of Cedar Rapids’ doubleheader on Wednesday.

Ok, it was only seven innings, not the usual nine. Still, Langenberg’s effort remains impressive. The Urbandale, Iowa native walked the lead-off hitter in a prolonged plate appearance before falling into a deep groove, allowing just four more baserunners the rest of the way as he cruised in possibly the best start of his professional career. Certainly, it was the best of his work in 2025; his previous high in innings in a start was just six, and he only earned a clean earned run slate twice. He threw 98 pitches.

Maddux Houghton broke the stalemate with a fifth-inning RBI single. Kyle DeBarge cracked an opposite field double the next frame to push the lead to two, and Misael Urbina drove in his two-bagging teammate for a third and final run.

The 49th-ranked prospect in MLB, Blake Mitchell, DH’d for the River Bandits, singling once in three trips to the plate.

Game Two: Cedar Rapids 3, Quad Cities 9
Box Score

Chase Chaney: 3 ⅓ IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
HR: None
Multi-hit games: Jaime Ferrer (2-for-3, 2B, R)

Matters did not favor the Kernels in game two.

The bats remained consistent—they scored thrice just as they did the previous game—but Cedar Rapids’ pitching crumbled. The River Bandits thrashed starter Chase Chaney for nine hits and five runs, then smacked Juan Bonillo for three more runs in his Kernels debut. Ivran Romero somewhat settled the melee, yet even he was tagged for an unearned run.

Jaime Ferrer earned his second multi-hit game of August.

Luis Hernandez caught his first game for the Kernels.

The aforementioned prospect Mitchell caught in game two, tripling, singling, and walking in five plate appearances.

Mussel Matters
Fort Myers 4, Daytona 15
Box Score

Joel Garcia: 3 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
HR: Enrique Jimenez (1)
Multi-hit games: Marek Houston (2-for-5, RBI), Dameury Pena (2-for-4, BB), Enrique Jimenez (2-for-3, HR, R, RBI, BB)

The Mighty Mussels were eviscerated on Wednesday.

It started bad and got worse. Three runs arrived in the first, another came in the second, and a fifth runner touched home before the third inning concluded. A respite fourth—an oasis in a painful desert—gave Fort Myers time to breathe, before the whole thing came crashing down with ten runs spread across the fifth and sixth frames. ERA ballooned. Egos were destroyed. A trench on the basepath between third and home started to form.

Some minor positives: newcomers showed out. Enrique Jimenez blasted his first homer in the Twins organization while reaching base three times, and Marek Houston cracked two hits. Minnesota’s recent 1st-rounder is slashing .378/.410/.432 in eight games with Fort Myers.

Yet another elite catching prospect played against a Twins affiliate on Wednesday. The 75th-ranked prospect in MLB, Alfredo Duno, cracked three hits, including a homer, in five at-bats.

Great game by Langenburg.  He'd been pitching better the last month or so.  Looks like he might have found the stuff to move up a level next year.  Hope he keeps this up.

I guess I have to get off my Outman sucks campaign.  He's been relatively who he has been at AAA, anyway, after a brutal start.  With Stewart now on the injured list I guess the Twins knew better about moving on from him. Hopefully Outman keeps the contact coming and eventually can translate it to MLB.

MaCleod with the much better line than Rojas tonight. I know Rojas has some nasty stuff but it seems Like MaCleod understands how to pitch better.  We could have us some lefty competition with MaCleod, Rojas and Prielipp. Hill is further away, but another exciting lefty arm..  Always nice to see lefty arms doing well.

I know small sample sizes give erroneous long term info but has anyone else noticed Jimenez has more walks (12) and strikeout's (9) and a .500 OBP?  It's a few less plate attempts but his OPS is higher than Houston's as well and the kid is only 19 and this is first taste of A ball.  Nice to have some young catchers to get excited about.

Lot's of bats slumping.  Hopefully they get back on track soon.

Yes, we are aware that Matt's MILB report is duplicated in the comments section. I suppose I might be able to delete it, but I can't figure out why it did that, so I'm leaving it there until @Brock Beauchamphas a chance to look at it... just in case...

Sorry for the inconvenience.

It was like deja vu all over again.

Report from Springfield, MO:  Waited to post till this morning hoping I'd see a better effort/performance by the Wind Surge after losing Tuesday night.  Well......that didn't turn out as I hoped.

I blame the Pohlad announcement for infecting the minds and bats of the Wind Surge.

A few observations after witnessing the last 2 games:

I'll start with the positives:

1.  The weather was very nice for mid August.  Low 80s at first pitch with little humidity.  Good $2 brats and hot dogs on Tuesday night made for a cheap dinner.  Ticket prices:  Spent under $70 for 4 tickets (my Cardinal fan wife attended with me) for good seats down the 3B line.

2.  Hmm.....tough to find much after getting only 5 hits over 2 games, but I'll try.

Walker Jenkins:  Despite a 1-8 he did hit the ball hard 3x Monday night.  1st AB missed a HR by less than five feet on a drive to right center.  Also lined out to center in the 8th inning.  Not as good last night, but did "Charlie Brown" the pitcher in his last 1-6-3 AB.   Jenkins was solid in CF both games.  Made numerous solid plays defensively and displayed a strong arm.

CJ Culpepper:  Starter Tuesday night---I believe gave up 2 ER in his 4 IP.  His command was decent to above average.

K. Rosario:  HIs HR last night was CRUSHED! Easily over 400 ft.

Connor Prielipp:  1st inning was excellent. 16 pitches with 2 K's.  Hit 96 with fastball. I know, I'm grasping.

Now for the negatives:----Again, I blame the Pohlads

Kaelen Culpepper:  Took to collar over the 2 games going 0-8.  Wish I could report he hit a few balls hard, but that would akin to the Pohlad announcement that they were "committed to bringing a winning team to Minnesota."  Culpepper had a rough 2 games with 3 or 4 whiffs and hit into a DP Tuesday night in the 7th with 2 runners on base trailing by 1 run.   I will choose to believe in his season sample of work rather than the last 2 games.  IMO, he absolutely needs to remain in AA the rest of the season.  Defensively, he looked very smooth and displayed a strong arm at SS.

Prielipp:  Came unraveled in 2nd inning after a catcher interference call was followed by a walk on a 3-2 pitch and then a double to the 9-hole hitter.  Needed 24 pitches to make it through 2nd inning.  He did hit 98 with his fastball, but struggled with command and being able to put hitters away with two strikes.   Withihis injury history, he MIGHT be a strong bullpen candidate moving forward with the Twins. Prielipp has the physical tools to be a strong SP 2 or 3, but he must develop his secondary pitches.

Wish I had a better report, but that's baseball.  For anyone wishing to make a road trip south, the drive to Springfield is an easy 3-hour trip from the KC area.  Hammons Field is a beautiful ballpark.

Not the best day from the top prospects in the system! It'll happen.

Good to see Eeles having some good days, but his OBP is still higher than his slugging for the season, and until he starts showing that he's got a little more pop back in his bat I don't see him as being an option beyond a reserve utility guy. The OPS he's carrying right now is not impressive in the international league. Have to wonder if the knee is still bothering him a bit in recovery and whether or not he'll be able to build back a stronger base to hit from.

I was slightly less outraged by trading away Brock Stewart than many, simply because he's not a player you can realistically count on as a bullpen building block, but that doesn't mean I'm sold on Outman. He's going to have to do quite a bit more to convince me he can be part of anything here. That said, it would be hilarious if the Twins are able to "fix" him, considering how some people think the Dodgers are so great at player development that you shouldn't even consider someone they want to get rid of...

Nice start by Langenberg. He had an awful start to the season but has looked substantially better in the last month. Still a long way to go for him, IMHO: the walk rates simply have to come down. He's only had 4 games this season where he was under 2 walks (out of 19) and even in this more recent and improved stretch he's handed out 2 free passes in each of the last 5. But it looks like he's starting to figure some things out.

Good for DeBarge to have a couple of good games; really hope he can finish strong because he's been pretty rough for the past few months and right now we've seen the bad hitter for more games than the good one this season.

Rojas has been rocky, but there is plenty to like there.  Fastball/slider/changeup all miss bats, but I think he needs to add a slower pitch with more movement.  He's only 22 with 14IP in AAA and 18.2 in AA, so he's probably spending at least the first half of next year at AAA before he gets a taste of the majors.

Keep looking at what Fedko did last night and just shake my head.  Yes, 11 games is a smallish sample, but Holy Cow!

Checked and see that Prielipp has pitched nearly three times as many innings as last year.  Those of you who have seen him may know, but is he starting to wear down as the season goes into its last month?

The pitcher that stymied the Twins for 5 innings last night (and that you’d never heard of) is one month YOUNGER than Prielipp…and chosen 5 rounds later than Prielipp in the 2022 draft.

One, always reject the narrative this org has any special ability to identify and develop amateur arms.

Two, reject the narrative that Prielipp has been ‘dominant’ in AA this year. He hasn’t been. Due to the injuries, Prielipp was a lottery ticket draft pick…albeit high-ceiling lottery pick.. And, again in large part due to injuries, he remains a long-shot as a starter.
