Regarding dissing Ryan's performance/results........ It should be 8-1 rigt now. Clarke was struck out for the third out. No 3 run homer. And on top of that, I would hope Buxton catches one like that next time. Two times he should or could have been relieved of 3 runs scored.

Buxtons 1st double also was a fly  ball out if played right, -- its b-ball -- craps on everyone

Idk about that. He gave up 6 hits, walked 3 and HBP 2 in just 5 IP. Was a grind after the 2nd inning. 5 freebies with a 6 run lead is a no no from the assumed ace of the staff

And i'm okay with that. 

However it was even close, and in the past couple weeks i've seen Byron successfully dive for one further than that, and successfully short hop it. So i'm glad it is Byron making the decision, not any of us.

Certainly appreciate the effort but it’s a ball you have to read better.  I’m quite sure he is more comfortable going all out coming with no wall risk and I love that.  That was not close and he doesn’t need to beat himself up and give an extra base.

Buck was not even close to catching that ball, he might have lost it in the sun, but anyway Ryan was running out of gas quickly. He does have a bit of history of wheels coming off in a hurry

If you were watching the game, Ryan was always asking for new baseballs, shifting around on the mounds, and just never seemed comfortable tonight.  I'd say that he nursed the game to where it is now, bared down when he absolutely had to have it, and gritted through 5 innings.  Not the best performance, but one you like to see that he didn't give up and just implode.

Varland should be able to pitch 2 depending on previous usage.

In a game where they are down 10+ in the 4th inning I'm good with having Alcala finish it
