With the Timberwolves ownership arbitration officially siding with Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore today, it's basically set in stone Glen Taylor is out as the Timberwolves owner. The speculation was Glen Taylor was interested in the Twins, but only if he lost his bid to steal back the Timberwolves after the franchise experienced major gains in value.

Now that the decision is finalized, if Taylor was in the mix as an ownership candidate for the Twins, it's likely the final bidding and numbers will come quick IMHO.

I'm not saying Taylor can't get involved, but if he does, that opening day projection for the sale is going to be way off.

The guy didn't know about his T-Wolves situation until yesterday and there's no way a multi billion dollar deal gets put together in a month.

Glen Taylor buying the Twins will be a huge buzzkill. Let’s hope he’s not the winning bid.

Glen is 84 and in ailing health. I seriously doubt he makes a serious bid. He only tried to keep the Wolves because the value has exploded since he signed that deal.

I'd imagine he's been involved in the bidding with a contingency plan if Taylor was interested in the Twins.

All the more reason for Taylor to bid. Chasing that big franchise championship.

My understanding is the sale of the Wolves still has to be approved by the NBA board of governors.  Normally they wouldn't have gotten this far in the process without knowing this would be rubber-stamped, but this sale hasn't exactly been normal.  Does a significantly below-market franchise sale potentially affect the valuation of other franchises? Probably (definitely?) not, but I wouldn't consider this set in stone until that approval has been granted. I haven't heard anything to suggest they won't, but I'd imagine Taylor wouldn't be looking to pay up for another franchise until he knows for certain that his current one is sold (and if that's not true, then this arbitration ruling wouldn't have an effect either way on his interest in the Twins).  That could take him out of the running for the Twins if they stick to their opening day timeline.

If it ends up being Glen Taylor I’m out on this team…

Glen is 84 in failing health. It won't be him. But it will probably be the Pohlads for the foreseeable future.

So the scuttlebutt is that all of this came as a huge surprise to pretty much everybody and it happened in a big-ass hurry.

So Ishbia's were the primary option,  White Sox got scared and gave him more ownership, is that effectively what occurred here?

That's the big mystery. Were the White Sox part of this at all? And in what capacity? Nobody is saying.

What a cluster beep this is becoming

Don't worry!  In the other thread I was assured that it's fine! The Ishbias were never serious about it!

Which, obviously, should be very reassuring.  Or so I'm told.....

The White Sox seem to legit be threatening to move. If true and the Ishaba's were jumping on that train, might be for the best they're out.

I guess I didn't see them as a savior anyway. We have no idea if they'll be good owners. Sure, people seem to like them with the NBA, but that's a different beast with salary caps and floors.

I mean, aren't ALL of these bidders going to act like they'll be the heroes we want? It's not like anyone is going public float that their backers are named Profit Margin McHedgefund III.

The Ishbias will 100% keep the Sox in Chicago. Justin Ishbia runs his business in Chicago and lives just outside the city.

That is not what anyone said, but thanks for the hyperbole. But it is possible that the Ishbia’s interest in the Twins was all a ruse and their real interest all along was the White Sox. This might not be the Pohlads blowing it, but they might possibly got stupidly played. These guys with the money they have … I just think that’s more likely. And I don’t recall anyone saying it was fine.

That is actually what jocko said, :)

And the connotation absolutely was that this shouldn't be surprising or worrisome.  That spin is confusing to me, I admit.

So, I get that all of us Twins fans want a positive outcome, whatever that means, to this ongoing saga but I was wondering about something. If you walked around various areas, we can just call it downtown, of Rochester, St. Cloud, Duluth, Moorhead, St. Paul, and Minneapolis and asked a couple of hundred people in a random fashion trying to maintain some semblance of balance between age and gender ..... How many people could accurately state the owner(s) of the Twins? Vikings? Wild? Timberwolves?

Q: Who is the current owner of the Minnesota Twins?

A: The Minnesota who-now?

Funny, but that question followed by that exact answer is what got me onto the question. It might be an interesting survey type thing to do at a Twins game.

Okay, one person said it was. But when we are dealing with billionaires and big money deals, I guess I get the not surprising sort of attitude. Not that this specific scenario should have been expected, but I guess it’s not surprising to me that some sort of hitch came up and that smooth sailing from A to B is just not a thing.

That's fair...but let's be clear:

A last minute hitch to a massive deal is likely one helluva hitch.  My main argument has been: we should be on high alert for shenanigans here.  Concern/worry is probably the right response.

Oh, I'm sure they won't move, but I don't like the idea that the white knights we were hoping for are jumping into a situation where they will immediately ask for public money or threaten to leave.
