The Guardians have roles for their pitchers, Gaddis isn't pitching in the 5th inning, he is the set up guy. We try to match up every hitter and then run out of pitchers by the end of the game. Irvin should have been left in and now Sands is done and Varland will pitch one inning. Get ready Tonkin or Blewitt to pitch in a tie game. And they will have Clase and Smith to pitch. You also see it in the lineup construction. Notice how Josh Naylor hit against a lefty? No way we would let Larnach get the ABs to gain the trust to hit against lefties. We’d have to pinch hit Margot because the numbers say so. TwinsCD, HarmonK03 and Twins_Fan_in_NJ 3

In the early 90s during the Pirates heyday, Jim Leyland would have Gary Redus in either center or right when Van Slyke and Bonilla had days off. My dad, a big Pirates fan, gave Redus that name because of some of the misplays he'd have in the field. Twins_Fan_in_NJ 1

As opposed to our manager who picks names out of a hat to slot them into a lineup.
