I'm at a loss for words as to why he would want to even consider that option, let alone actually do it. Last year, I could maybe justify that call, but definitely not this year.

I guess that kind of  analysis is why Roy gets the big bucks to be on TV.

Right. They don't swing at pitches in the zone, either, (especially close ones with 2 strikes).

I think that too many are putting too much pressure on themselves, trying to be heroes and hit a 5-run homer than they are playing within the context of a "normal" offense.  Hence, they're swinging at most everything that appears to even be close to the strike zone, which seldom ends up in a positive result.

... Or taking too many close pitches, in an attempt to draw a walk.

It's like everyone is shocked...a guy who comes up to start and has never thrown more than 92 pitches in his professional career can't give them more than 5.
