I’d be willing to put a prospect package together to get Blake snell. To get him and have the giants cover a vast majority of his salary it may take a couple higher end prospects but I don’t really like kikuchi or any of the rest of the rentals. Based on some of these other trades teams are making am I in the ballpark on sending them Andrew Morris to acquire him. Then sending them Luke Keaschall and CJ Culpepper in order for the Giants to send 12-13M with Snell to cover his salary next year if he exercises his option? If he doesn’t they’re sending cash which the twins “seem” to need and it just goes in the pot for next year to cover some of the pay raises. This gets the twins a top of the rotation arm. Covers his 15M next year if he exercises his option to where we’re only paying a few million. Uses some prospects that don’t really have a spot come next year. Not indispensable prospects but “fair” value for a top arm. Also you get some money from the giants. Might be a creative way to get him. Takes prospects but you gotta trade value to get value.

Really tough to gauge what Blake Snell is worth. Baseballtradevalues has Blake Snell as 0.4 surplus which is nothing. Like PTBNL, but that isn't accurate at all. Honestly, I think a 6-10 prospect gets Snell. Maybe a couple 11-20s. He shouldn't be that expensive, especially with SF itching to get him off the books.

A former cy young winner with playoff experience who’s been on a roll recently who’s making $30M ($15M of which was payed as signing bonus if I understand) essentially. Has an option for next year at $30M. $15M of which is deferred until 2027 so with the Twins money situation you’re gonna want cash sent in the deal to cover that. So a 15-20 prospect to acquire him. 2 prospects in the 5-20 range for the Giants to send the $12-15M cash. That’s what I’m thinking. He’s the only pitcher that you can put up top with Pablo who’s gonna start playoff games. Kikuchi isn’t that guy and there isn’t any other rentals that do what snell does.

Frankie Montas of the Cincinnati reds is another Cheap arm the Twins looked into him when he was with Oakland. his expiring contract makes him a good pitcher to look into.

Gonna cost more than that. Way more.

But do it.

Ramirez from the Yankees headed a prospect package that garnered 2+ years of jazz Chisholm. I would guess a 10-20 or a 15-20 twins prospect gets him. Along with prospects to cover the money end. I don’t think it’s gonna take “way” more.

My thoughts on Kikuchi is I was not impressed with his performance against the Twins in Game 2 last year. He didn’t get rocked or anything, he was just kind of uneven, looked like he wasn’t up to the moment. His delivery to home plate was inconsistent. So it’s a Pass for me. However, as a lefty arm to give us starts through the rest of the regular season, he might be ok if the price is right (ie, super cheap).

The Twins’ FO is really putting the “dead” in trade deadline this year.

The pursuit slipped on a banana peel.

With the prices guys are going for, sitting out might not be that bad of an option.   I still think they pull 1 or 2 small moves off late.

Unless you can pull off a blockbuster and get guys with control or guys you want to extend, the deadline is such a sellers market.

Return for Flaherty seems kinda light.

The Yankees had a trade lined up for him and backed out over medicals.  I think that had a lot to do with his final trade value.

Also I want to point out to everyone, I didn't really see that many difference makers traded at the deadline.  Most of the trades were for depth or to plug a hole.  So I am less disappointed the Twins didn't do much yesterday.  in addition to that Festa now has 2 good appearances in a row and could end up being the starter we need and we still have Dobnak and Varland and Zebby Mathews now as depth.

Huh?

He's a rental. Hasn't missed a start.

What "medicals?"

Yeah, it makes more sense now.  There is also a rumor that the Twins were talking Cortes if they were able to get Flaherty.
